Based on your figures, if Nielsen and other california reps took mileage reimbursements @.45cents per mile, it would cost taxpayers 3 or 4 times that amount. Sounds like the most cost effective way to do it.

Yep, repubicans want to cut spending, unless they're the ones doing it.

I have people who file mileage expenses and this seems to be in line....and I am no Nielsen supporter. Why should legislators pay out of their pocket for doing state business?

So you think he should be sitting on his butt in an office in Sac then out seeing his constituents? It's not like he is out joyriding at our expense, he's doing his job.

the issue I see is the rest of them aren't out seeing their people.

For the amount of money they make (including per diem)they can pay for their own gas. Maybe that would make them cut down on all the travel and actually do something instead of driving around all day. And they should use their own car as well after all they are suppose to be public servants, not public deserevants.....

This clown (Middle of the Road)is so stupid that he cannot even get his name right. He does nothing but bash the right and then refers to himself as "Middle of the Road". I know that being called a left-wing, drooling, liberal moonbat is not that great, but you are what you are, pal!

It's great that he is out doing his job. What riles me is that if a Democrat did the same thing you repubicans would be hemorrhaging.

Just like you did when bush said after 911 that it was a good idea for cabinet members and leaders of the house and senate to use military aircraft to get around instead of commercial transportation and the right whined like crazy when Nancy Pelosi (third in line for president) did as bush proposed.

The Ford Edge gets about 27 mpg highway according to published reviews, so at an average of $3.25 per gallon in 2010, that's enough gas to take 164 trips of 500 miles each. That's a lot.

I'm all for keeping in touch with the constituents, but in an era where everything is being cut, travel expenses should be cut too.

And state legislators who live in the Sacramento area shouldn't get per diem and those from outside Sacramento should only get it when they stay overnight in Sacramento and should only use state vehicles on "official" business and not to go shopping or to take their kids to school or family to the movies.

And commuting every day from an office out of the area should be limited to one trip a week.

The state isnít broke, itís mismanaged!

Sure hope Brown cleans up some of this crap!

Our representatives shouldn't utilize employer authorized equipment/tools or non-wage compensation to do their job, because you feel you should set the bar? Is that it?
