I am black and Juneteenth is my very favorite holiday (I do not care for Kwaanza at all, never did). And I totally do not get the offense here. Okay, I could be missing something, but Black is Beautiful is never a bad thing to say, even when when you are talking about animals. Maybe black people should be encouraged to adopt black pets.(Okay I have a dog named Mongo, because he is big, white and kinda dumb).
Lighten up already.
Cheers to you, BK! The word asinine can't begin to touch the idiotic thinking of the NAACP on this one! What is inflammatory about a campaign whose slogan is "Black is Beautiful"???? Get off your whiny arses and stop looking for something to complain about. The people running the shelter were neither insensitive nor untimely - they were just trying to do their jobs.

This story is a perfect example as to how the NAACP has been reduced to an insignificant organization that grasps at straws to try and remain relevant. It's a shame the animal shelter buckled.

Next thing you know the NAACP will complain that piano makers discriminate because the black keys are smaller.

It is the black community that needs to lighten up. I'm sick and tired of marches for this and marches for that. Maybe if blacks would go out and get a job, they wouldn't have time for all their many marches.
Oh and by the way, I have a large black dog that we call DA, it stands for dumbass.
Um, I think he was AGREEING that this was idiotic.

What a stupid move, black coated animals need loving homes too. Naacp means national association for the advancement of colored people, why does the word black offend anyone? The skin color of my so called black friends is actualy, mocha, chocalate, or various shades of brown. I cannot say that I ever noticed a person with actual Black skin. Animals do have black fur. Can anyone out there explain why african americans choose to be referred to as BLACK people??
First of all, props to stupid Chicago Tribune for bringing this pointless story to light.

Second of all, black is our race... some of us do not prefer to be called, and are actually offended by, the label "african-american," b/c it is an inaccurate way to categorize an entire race of people. I am from the Caribbean. Have never been to Africa. I'd have to go pretty far back in my family tree before I find Africa. So why call me "African-American?"

I have a black cat and she is affectionate, sweet and gentle. My wife and I love her hand her grey and white brother, born together four years ago on a friend's farm in Crete.

Why do you make the assumption that all people with dark skin are from Africa???

Not every dark-skinned person in America has grandparents who were slaves. Not every dark-skinned person in America is from Africa.

On the other hand, not every "African-American" is black. Believe it or not, folks, Africa has white people, too.

For what it's worth (and that probably isn't much), I think that only people with dual-citizenship should refer to themselves as "African-American" or "Mexican-American" or "Italian-American", etc. Otherwise, you're one or the other. American or not. Regardless of your skin color or heritage or ancestry.

My two-cents.

<grin> Your post hit as I was sending mine. I have a friend who is black. Her parents came from Jamaica. She HATES to be called "African-American."

Call her that and she'll tell you in no uncertain terms that she is black.

I agree that it's a rude assumption to make - see my post.

So when are Jesse Jackass and Al The Big Mouth going to march through the streets? Maybe the NAACP should change their name to: Numbsculls Are Always Causing Problems.

God Bless the animal shelter! It's a thankless job. Neuter your dogs and cats, people. Be responsible pet owners. Love ANY animal, no matter what color. Love All people who are kind, nice, and of good character-no matter what race or color or religion!!!!!!!!!!

Dear NAACP,

Looking for your expert advice :

Will I still be allowed to drive my Black car, or should I have it repainted in order to be P.C.?
