Heather Funkhouser, a resident of Georgetown TX, falsely accused two men of sexual assault in Anderson SC- where she is attending college. I don't want this girl to run back to Georgetown and pretend that she didn't turn our quaint community upside-down with her false accusations- she even went as far as having the local hospital perform a rape evidence collection kit. Before you start judging other people, get the whole story first. No one got hurt and she is getting her punishment. I am sure there are skeletons in your closet that you wouldn't want to come out.

Compassionate wisdom is needed here more than judgement. There are many reasons for something like this happening including the girl coming from a religious background where rape is the only acceptable reason for not being a virgin before marriage. More than a few have had an emotional meltdown when their actions clash with what they grew up believing was immoral. The mind can literally "resolve" the conflict by creating another scenario that is may be temporarily believed. Young people, thousands of miles from home at college, can be put under stresses that can lead to some bizarre behavior. Two freshmen committed suicide during my first year of college ages ago. One did it because he had been bamboozled into a card game where he had lost his year of college money. The other did it because he got an F on ONE assignment. Another ran off with the Unification Church after being stressed out over exams. All three of them had had great high school records but being alone without family for the first time led to behavior that nobody could have predicted. Although a kid is old enough for college; they are still inexperienced and easily overwhelmed emotionally and socially.
