Chestertown is a suck ass place to live. You are nobody unless you know somebody. Try to get a job at the hospital, Washington College, Dixon Valve, or Lamotte Chemical. No consideration unless you know somebody. These are the only places that employ any number of people. The rest of the town consist of nothing but minimum wage. Chestertown must have the only surviving Roses in the United States. The so called shopping plaza consists of Roses and Peebles. Downtown is not for the average working class. Most of us shop in Delaware where there is no tax and lots of big box stores that we can afford. Dont't hope for those in the great Chestertown though. Not those or any other business that might bring employment and some affordibility to the lower paid working class. The town is run by a bunch of rich people who don't like change. So, if you are rich, retired, cultured. This is definately for you. If your like me and work but live paycheck to paycheck, consider somewhere else to live.

For all you old people.. let me tell you something. I'm 24. I've lived in Kent county my hole life and at times when you can sit back and relax .. kc is beautiful and perfect. But being a youth we Do not get to sit back and relax. You know nothing of this place or the drugs or the racism, the prejudice, and neglect that people like me , some one who isn't pampered and sheltered from the reality of the world. Drugs will be a problem where ever you go.. but here for the kids drugs is the outlet. You old people got to go do shit when you was camping, fishing, picnics, go down to the hop..all that shit ain't there for us. In fact almost everything kids have had here except for the millington skate park, is gone. Ask your self what can kids do here? And if you say the chestertown movies..not should be shot. And its because of the old generation is 'protecting and preserving '.. well your killing the kids. Maybe not your brainwashed children that have the perfect life that mommy and daddy gave them, but the kids I know.. knew, never had a chance.. because of this place. Kids that grew up here.. make jokes about Kent being a trap.. but for some of us.. it really was and still is. Give kids an outlet.. remember not all kids wanna shoot guns.. play sports and study. I know some of you will not like my message.. but if you could open your eyes and look past the fake sense of perfection around here.. you could see the youth.. our future needs something here. And stop putting old people and how much money you'll make because of all the old people that come retire here, first.

Yes, Lucy Chestertown is backwards in some ways and forward thinking in others. I am originally from the West Coast, I moved my wife and I here to have peace and quiet. I run my own business out of my home and the majority of my law firm clients are here on the east coast. Fourteen years ago, my wife and I were considered different as we are a black and white couple. Some folks thought that this was just despicable, but that's their opinion not mine and I love my wife and will do anything to protect her. No one, not anyone has the balls to say such ratchet stuff to my face so the redneck element doesn't dare bother me or my wife, the grief it would cause them would be too great both financially and physically. I have come to love Chestertown and I am helping bring them into the 21st century with the knowledge I have and share. Any place one goes, there always be those that grew up here but they don't feel they belong so they isolate with their ignorant friends and families. The charm at times of Chestertown is the "bubble" we live in, it is also the downfall. I think you can strike a balance with those like my wife and I that came here and those that grew up and can't or won't relocate. You can make a place livable and enjoyable otherwise it will always be miserable and despicable, you make your own bed, with fleas or line it with flowers, your choice.

I left Chestertown in 1953 when I went into the military and sadly I was unable to return after leaving the service but over the years I have returned any where from 3-4 times a year from Florida because I hate this place and love Chestertown , I miss the hunting, the ice skating my friends, the quiet peaceful way of life, the open country, the beauty of the crops growing, watching the geese flying over head and hearing the chatter from them as they fly over, the crab cakes, friendly people and you ask why I haven't returned. Well, I met my current wife prior to leaving the service and she had just moved to Fl. from Newark De. and of course we had children and of course no mother is going to leave her kids no matter how old they are and as much as I love Chestertown I wont leave my wife to return so therefore I will continue to make my several trips a year back home, yes, Chestertown and Kent County is still my home and will always be and to all you critics, well, I guess I had just better leave it at that but do you really get satisfaction in bashing a town?

So my family and I live in northern va and was looking for a Victorian home in a quaint town not too far and we came across Chestertown. We are in the arts. I, personally am quite international living in NYC, London, etc. and multicultural, half M.E. And half Welsh. my husband is born and raised in northern va. We are quite liberal, educated, quirky and well, artsy. We love boutiques and a variety of cuisine.
Do you think this place is nice for us? We have a three year old daughter.

Chestertown is just plain awful. If you aren't from there, you'd might as well be from the moon. People from there are like a little clique. I know someone who made the mistake of starting a business and got nothing but grief from the locals. The business employed several of them, and they spent the entire day running down the business behind my friend's back with the other locals. Then they took what they learned at this business and started a competitor. My friend said it was silly to think they would be welcomed for investing money into a business in that town and adding the local jobs and that their tax money would be appreciated. The locals all stick together and work to screw you if you aren't from there. Run far, far away! Do be fooled by the beauty of the area, it masks an ugly secret.....the nightmare of the locals. Pick someplace else, where you will have a better chance of being a success unless you're from that part of the Twilight Zone.
