My husband and I were driving through Dry Prong, LA. I had asked earlier why he was driving so slow.(I am from Mississippi) He said these little towns in LA have traps. They have sneaky little poloice that will set you up to be stopped and ticketed. He was driving on pins and needles to avoid going too fast. The limits were rediculous in the first place. Going from 55 to 35 within seconds. It was the same highway. One town would have no change and the next would have a sudden 35 MPI sign.
As hard as he was trying to comply don't you know in DRY PRONG LA, he topped a hill, saw a police car and slowed down (knee jerk) reaction when imediately there were the lights. Withing 50 to 75 feet of where the police car was sitting He had stopped. It was a joke. The OFFICER pulled up behing us, said step out the car, and worte us a ticket. I could go forever here but it really is pretty sad this is allowed. IT IS MODERN DAY PIROTRY. Thanks Barny Fife. Well Barny was ore likable but any way what a winner of a town. Ruined out night. |

I know what you mean. I grew up near Dry Prong and go back to visit now and then. I drive 80 and 90 all over Texas and never get stopped but it's a real challange driving in La.

I spend alot of time in Louisiana. Most of my travels are up and down US 165. As you travel through the little sleepy towns and spots in the road (McNary) for instance, the speed limit is 45...ridiculous. Others like Woodworth where the cops are always sitting an waiting most of the time, you slow to 55 way to the south of town and then travel 50 to the north of town then to 55 far to the north of town. Then the funny thing is, just before you get to the 65 sign there is a 55 sign. So if you start the accelerate to 65 between the 55 and the 65 sign which is about 100ft you can get a ticket. What all this boils down to has nothing to do with safety, it's all about revenue. You would think the state of Louisiana would step in and dictate to these local towns what the speed limit is base on safety. Jimmy carter had to intervene when little towns like ludowici and Hinesville Ga. had speed traps set up primarily for the purpose of revenue. Maybe a letter to the Governor...nah Probably wouldn't do any good.

Don't forget about Ball, LA. Once you cross the tracks by Proctor and Gamble in Pineville, heading toward Ball, be on the lookout for the Keystone Cops. The Ball police are a big joke. If they had put as much effort into catching Richard Lee McNair when he escaped from the federal prison (instead of letting him walk away into the sunset) as they do with catching innocent people that are just trying to get to and from work or get their children to and from school they would be a lot better off. They remind me of Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the Cat In The Hat story. The make me sick! How can you justify going from 55 to 35 MPH within such a short distance???
