"dumbies" says he's "sure" that bonuses will improve with the profits of Toyota. Wake up. If you actually worked at TMMK, you'd know that the bonuses are a thing of the past. These are not "scare tactics" in any way shape or form. If you deny that this is Toyotas future for its employees then you have slipped into a coma. That 8% paycut coming to powertrain and plastics, I just heard that tonight.
Maybe we should just blow that rumor off too and say "that'll never happen to me" until you wake up one day and have a special meeting at the start of shift...uh oh, I'm getting a paycut! And there's nothing you're gonna be able to do about it. Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of inevitability... Wouldn't it have been nice to have a contract stating what your compensation is going to be for working for them? No set ups where you come into work one day and find out you're going to lose 1/5th of your pay and twist it to make you think you asked for it!?!
Nobody rioted this paycut of fellow team members so guess what? The rest of you just gave them the "go-ahead" the "green light" to do it to the rest of us because why? Because we're not going to do a thing about it. We're sheep...SHEEP!
The union haters can sit there and continue to run their mouths about how Toyota employees who want a voice are nothing short of a bunch of cry babies that are ungrateful for this great job they have. I'm grateful for this job I have been given but at the same time, could someone take this knife out of my back?
It's tyranny. They have absolute power and they'll do to us as they wish. If you're under the impression that Toyota has a heart and they care about you...you're delusional. We're their PAWNS, expendable, every single one of us at any given moment. Broke down like a shotgun with their repetitive manufacturing set up and they have you trained to think what they decide to pay you is actually too much and how dare you ever question them. How dare you speak of trying to organize in an effort to gain a voice for yourself. How dare you ...HOW DARE YOU, you ignorant, under educated people, how dare you question TOYOTA about how they run their business. Get back to your friggin' job, do it exactly how we tell you and shut your friggin' mouth. Keep putting on more parts per process than any other automotive manufacturing facility in the United States...17% more parts per process. Did you just stop the line!?! How dare you! Don't ever stop this line! EVER!
Now go ahead haters...pick my words apart...twist them just like Toyota does to make your lie seem like truth. When it comes to getting organized...I'm in no way thinking of myself, I'm thinking of all of us. We all work in this building for years, decades! We're headed to the end of our Toyota work life and we're gonna get there and have nothing to show for it. Your body is broken, unable to get another job and you'll die broke. It's your life spend it as you wish. I value my life and my health and if my employer takes an excessive amount of it just to produce their product...I expect compensation for it. Because, once it's gone, you'll never get it back.
This is your one chance...find your voice and change your life. This isn't a scare tactic or a threat...it's a promise.
Wow, that was passionate. I agree, it's not right for Toyota to take away your compensation like that. I don't work at Toyota, but I have heard that working on that line will break your body down fast. I hope the employees keep earning a good living. I hadn't heard that they cut out bonuses for good. A few of my friends work there and they didn't say that they would no longer be getting additional compensation. I thought they got bonuses this past year because they used them to help with vacation expenses. Good Luck. You sound very disappointed. I don't know that you'll be able to encourage your fellow workers to unionize because they are afraid of losing their jobs.

Everyone crying about the loss of BONUSES when the economy crashed..... Do you realize that tmmk employees are some of the very few in Kentucky that didn't lose their job and kept making the same hourly pay. Most of the temps you love to bash work there solely because they lost their job when the economy crashed and are just glad to be able to put food on the table for their family. Everyone's cost of living has gone up not just yours! Everyone would like to make more money, not just you! Your envy and greed has corrupted your mind into believing everyone owes you something. Be thankful for what you have.
"one of the very few in kentucky that didn't lose their job"!!!!
Yea, I guess I'm that stupid. I can't say I know of one person but if you say most everyone in Kentucky lost their jobs we will go along with it. You obviously know what your talking about. Lol

no pay is guaranteed! but when you are hired and they explain the bonus is part of your pay then it is expected! we are out of the recession and profits are booming again. yes, we EXPECT pay to return to normal just like their profits! not lowered
What is it about Toyota employees that makes them think their salaries should have anything whatsoever to do with company profits? Wal-Mart is one of the most profitable companies in the world, but do you see their cashiers making $60,000/year? Of course not. A lot of Wal-Mart employees are paid so little that they have to turn to Medicaid to insure their children. The reason Wal-Mart pays so little is because it's a job that doesn't require any education or experience. Anyone can be trained to work there, and the salary reflects that.

Anyone could be trained to work on the line at Toyota as well. And there are any number of people who would take the job at half of what a regular team member makes, and with far less generous benefits. Look at any given temp for an example of that. Yet, for whatever reason, salaries for regular team members there are considerably higher than most other manufacturing jobs.

I think what happened is that Toyota workers didn't WANT to see the truth, so they came to believe they were being paid as well as they were because they were really loyal and dedicated, they took pride in their work, and Toyota HAD THE MONEY to pay them well, and therefore a high salary was only fair.

It sounds good, but the TRUTH is that you all were being paid a wage competitive with union salaries in factories up North. Salaries which had been brokered by the UAW you all seem to despise so much. In order to keep workers from unionizing at TMMK, Toyota made the decision to go ahead and pay union level wages and offer union level benefits. It cost more than paying regular manufacturing wages, but it removed the threat of unions which meant they could make personnel decisions at will and not have the threat of a strike looming over them.

The shoe is on the other foot now, and what you're seeing at TMMK these days is the result of the collapse of the union. The union has become very weak since the recession, and union plants up North just don't pay like they used to. Those shops now have a labor cost advantage over Toyota in terms of new hires. Toyota's responding in the only way that makes sense; they're cutting their own wages and being a little more hard-nosed to stay competitive.

I'm sure it's nothing personal, and it has nothing to do with the quality of your work or how loyal or dedicated you are to the company.

Then again, despite everything you've told yourselves over the years, it actually never did.

Your story is stated in an intelligent manner. However your facts are a bit swayed. We tend to think our pay should be based on profits because that is the premise we were all told when hired in by the company. We accepted 1/3 of big 3 pay for about 5 years because Toyota told us we were not yet PROFITABLE and were told they intended to make us the top paying automobile company in the world once PROFITS reflected that. WE HELD OUR END OF THE BARGAIN.....THEY FAILED MISERABLY!!!
To this day... Most all auto companies bonuses are based on PROFIT SHAIRING, other than Toyota. Their policy is that when times are tough, they expect t/m's to take a pay cut (which is fair), and when times are great....they expect t/m's to take a pay cut!!
Anyone can be trained to do any job in America with training my friend. Einstein never attended college. Anyone could do a job, but there is a reason all companies do interviews and hire certain people. A lot of people can play football but some make millions at it while others watch it on the wkend! If anyone can do a job at Toyota why are there thousands that got turned down for the job?

Yeah, civil rights. Now the white man is the most discriminated against. Wait until you are denied a job that you're much more qualified for because they gave it to a minority to meet quota. See how you feel then.

Too bad there's no civil rights for the white man. When you've lost a job promotion to a minority, when they WERE NOT qualified, you'll think otherwise. Minorities are being hired right and left to meet quotas, since Obama took office. It doesn't matter if they're close to drooling.

Bull, Einstein did go to college...ETH Zurich. Graduated with degree in physics. Yes, anyone can be trained to do a job here in the U.S, but a LOT of careers do require degrees, and if you don't have a degree stating that you are capable of doing the job they won't even bother to look at your application. So don't compare some factory job that has thousands of temps running around to a job that actually requires education and skills. You say thousands gets turned down for a job at Toyota, and yet you see a horde of temps off the street walking around Toyota, oh the irony.

What is your point exactly? All major companies have people with degrees (mostly not even in the field they studied for) and those same companies have interns and help that don't have degrees. If you have 7000 people in the workforce, chances are that many won't have a degree. Doesn't mean they didn't have to pass a test to show they could do the job or are any less effective at the job
