Actually none of us chose the name. It was named before any of us were born. Kind of like my name "Michael" I didn't actually choose it either.

We could start a petition to change the names of our cities but no one would sign them. We could name them after inanimate objects because all men have faults and any name you pick would be accused of being associated with someone. Obscene adjectives for towns might be fun though.

Washington is beloved, even his faults are ignored, because he overthrew the British, basically single handedly, his face is on the $1 bill, and he stepped down from power, starting a peaceful transition of power that lasts until today. So it would hard to change Georgetown's name... though not impossible. There's plenty of heroes who are worthy of naming a city over, and I welcome that debate. Here... I will suggest 3...

Pluggystown
Mingo City
Mohawk

Butterfly, Kentucky (Perry County) is named after Cherokee Chief Butterfly. Canoe, Kentucky (Breathitt County) is named after Cherokee Dragging Canoe. Paducah, Kentucky is named after Chickasaw Chief Paduke. Kentucky is an Indian word. Besides those names, there are no other towns in Kentucky named after the Indians.

In 1782, the Baptist preacher Elijah Craig led his congregation to the site and established a new settlement which he called Lebanon. This was incorporated by the Virginia legislature in 1784 and was renamed in 1790 in honor of President George Washington.

When Kentucky became the 15th U.S. state in 1792 and formed Scott County, George Town became its seat of government. The name was formally changed to Georgetown in 1846.

Frankfort was named after a Jewish pioneer who was slayed by the Indians. Also, during Kentucky's statehood debate, it was considered that Kentucky become a part of the Spanish Empire... if we would have listen to Wilkinson, we'd all be speaking Spanish right now!

Chief Pluggy was killed because he and his band of fighters attacked Fort McCleland(Royal Spring) and killed many of the inhabitants, including John McCleland, the leader of the Fort. In retaliation for McCleland's death, some of the defenders shot down Pluggy.........who had been a fierce attacker of forts for years. Do you think they were just going to get massacred like that without putting up a fight? This was the battle that got things really heated up. In retaliation for Pluggy's death, Indians under Chief Blackfish attacked Boonesborough for the first time.

Thats hypocritical.......and its unfair to label all of the White people as bad and all of the Natives as good. There is good and evil in every race. Pluggy was a vicious and notorious killer and attacker of forts........killing many white people that were just trying to make a new life in a new land., which is what the people at Fort McCleland were doing. They weren't going around attacking and killing people like Pluggy and his band were doing. Even killing people that had never done any harm to Natives. You can't just paint it as some black and white thing. There were plenty plenty of Whites and Indians who got along, and helped each other.......but people just want to focus on all of the negative points, as usual.
