Moving to Georgetown soon

Paintsville, KY

#1 Dec 12, 2012
I'll be relocating to the Georgetown area sometime shortly after the first of the (end of Jan, mid Feb maybe). I was hoping to gain some perspective of some rentals i have been reviewing, from people that actually live in the Georgetown area. You guys probably know as well as i do, that you can't always trust Ad slogans or pitches... so i'm hoping some of you may be willing to offer me your perspective. The following are places i have checked so far:

Paris KY:
Paris KY (not a bad driving distance to Georgetown)
•Pine View Apartments - Paris, KY
•Kellie Lane Duplexes Apartments - Paris, KY
•Bourbon Trace Apartments - Paris, KY
•Bradford Place Apartments - Paris, KY
•Williamsburg Terrace Apt Apartments
•Cypress Apartments - Paris, KY

Georgetown KY:

1. Southern Oaks Apartment Homes (these are by the Community Hospital and close to where i'll be working)
2. There's a House on Maple Street (that's about all the information that was given about that - mainly emphasizing for calls)

The others (a couple others maybe) basically show a picture of something remodeled, vinyl siding and all that, and just say they are close to I-75 and then give a number to call.

So what do you guys think?

If you have any information that you'd be willing to share with me, i'd really appreciate that. You can contact me at: countriboy085@yahoo.com

Don't be a Dbag pill billy.

I moved from G-town about 11 years ago so I'm or sure where the good places are anymore. But Scroggins is not where you want to be. There are some town houses on Hiawatha that aren't bad. You could probably find a decent house to rent in an established neighborhood also.

That's all Pbilly knows. He is by far the biggest jerk ever on these boards. If anyone ever finds out his real name, I guarantee you, he has a very painful price to pay for the many people he has declared dead of a drug overdose on here.

As far as nice places to live, there are many in Georgetown, but if you can get on the outer parts of town it will be cheaper. If you don't mind the drive from Paris, check it out, your rent will be half of what it is here in Gtown. However, no matter where you move, Paris, Lex, Gtown..... you're going to be in a drug-infested area. We have some great people in all of these towns, and a lot of people live right, but drugs is really doing a number on our communities right now. Where I live, we have had multiple people caught making meth recently, and 5 convicted, registered sex offenders in a 0.4 mile radius around my home.

So some advice, when you move here, make sure to bring your gun.

Maybe try aberdine place. Reasonable rent for a good area. Also close to the hospital. I'd stay in Georgetown though, Paris may be cheaper but you get what you pay for.

I'd have to disagree. The places in Paris are very nice, and half the price of Gtown.

And Gtown is ate up with drugs a lot worse than Paris. Sure, Paris has many drug addicts, but it's much worse in Gtown. Look how many times in the last couple years people has been caught with record-breaking loads of drugs. And look at the major problems we have in the Scott Co. school system. Sex in the hallways during school. Pot smoke in the hallways and in the bathroom are common, some would say the norm. And drug dealing in the school is a proven fact that it happens daily. Sure, some of this happens in Paris, too, but not on the scale it does here locally.

Wow do you really believe what you read on here guest sex in schools etc wow. G town is by far better thanparis at least we have a police force capable of catching and stoping allot of drug acctivity. Drugs are every where country wide doesn't matter if you upper class lower class young or old. Look for homes around US 62 or 420 if you want good convenient country living. Or Leesburg in Harrison Co its right on the co line.

Who said I read it on here. How about I read it in the Lexington Herald Leader?

I have thousands of newspapers laying in my floor, so I can't find the exact copy easy. But the story is, during an investigation into some drug dealing in the school, they caught on camera a female giving a male oral sex in the hallways between class. It was caught on camera.

I've personally smelled pot smoke in the high school.

Here is what I could find. This is directly from the Lexington Herald Leader..........

----------
By Mary Meehan — mmeehan1@herald-leader.com

GEORGETOWN — After nearly two hours of high-volume, hot-tempered exchanges referencing everything from sex and drugs in the high school hallways to the potential for a "Columbine-like tragedy," Scott County Schools Superintendent Patricia Putty said she didn't know how to resolve the question of whether the district needed another high school.

Read more here: http://www.kentucky.com/2012/02/14/2069034/em...
----------

And if you want to say that's not true, then the school leaders should have denied it. Instead, they said they know they have problems in the school. Here are their comments......

----------

Principal Frank Howatt said that his school had no more problems than other schools and that his staff worked diligently to keep things under control so students could excel in the classroom.

Putty didn't address concerns about behavior but said the only way to pay for another high school would be to raise taxes.
----------

Bob, Do you not believe this? Why would parents and teachers make this up? Why would the cops make it up to say when investigating a drug dealer in the school, the found on video a girl giving a guy oral sex?

I didn't catch the joke in your statement the first time I read it. But after re-reading it, I realized you made a funny.

If you believe the police force in Georgetown (I'm really talking Scott Co. as a whole, not the little city limits of Georgetown), but if you believe the police are capable of stopping drugs here then you are sadly mistaken, or blind. There are tons of drugs around me every single day. I spent almost 40 years as a drug addict, and I have zero arrests. I drove these roads for decades and never got one single arrest or ticket for anything drug related.

While I have been off drugs for a while now, I still maintain friendships with a lot of my druggie friends, and none of them are ever caught doing anything. I can score you pounds of pot tonight, without hesitation. I can get you some of the best cocaine around, and have it delivered to you in any parking lot in Gtown city limits, for about $60 a gram, which is way below market value. I can have you pills delivered to any parking lot in town, too.

The police force here are not stopping or slowing down the drug flow. That's a joke.

But I'm not saying it's just here. Yes, there are major drug problems in Paris, too. Drugs are everywhere. My entire point in this entire post is that the police here are not capable of slowing down the drugs in this town.

Also, I'm not from Paris and don't remember last time I was in Paris. I only mentioned Paris because the person who started this thread said they were looking at Paris.

Georgetown and Paris are both drug ridden trashy places. DO NOT MOVE TO EITHER PLACE IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION. Lexington isn't far from Georgetown and is a MUCH better place to live. Both Georgetown and Paris are small towns where everyone knows your business and shares STDs.

Lol lexington sure if you don't mind the murders and all. Didn't say they stop the drug flow but like you said its about the same any where you go. And do any of you're friends sell or deal with kids. If so than they are seriously lucky. The police know there is a drug problem nation wide. But some prioritize who to go after knowing they can't stop them all.it does not matter where you move to its all the same everywhere. Tv and parenting is all the same everywhere. Which is most of the blame for what we have today. Believe me I've seen more 30s heroin meth and weed than most will ever see. And know allot that have never been busted and some that have. Which honestly they needed to be.

Welcome to Georgetown! Aberden are, behind McDonalds off the By-Pass is pretty good. If you can find a house to rent in Bradford, that area isn't too bad and close to hospital.

Please avoid Scoggins Park. It's Government Housing and unless you are poor you can't get in anyway.

Hope this helps.:o)

I think we're pretty much on the same page here. I agree with you.

But to answer your question, most every drug dealer I know, will sell to anyone that they trust that has money. Now, they're not dealing to 10 and 12 year olds no matter what. But I'd say if you're between 16 and 18 and they know you and trust you, and you drive up with some cash in your hand, you're going to get what you came after.

I know an 11 year old who was selling meth for his daddy. He was carrying it to the bus stop with him to give to an older kid. I had no problem reporting this. I was friends with the mom and dad. Well, I was buying weed off the mom and dad at one time. The mom and dad are both currently in jail, the dad facing 20 years for making meth, the mom jailed waiting on her trial for possession of meth and shoplifting, and the child, who is now 14, lives with his grandparent.
