Ontario County sales tax goes up

As of Sept. 1, the Ontario County sales tax rate will be 7.5 percent, or 7 and a half cents on every dollar.

Jeez. Glad to see that the media, lawmakers, et al. gave the working public LOTS of time to prepare for this tax INCREASE.

Couldn't they have waited until September 02, 2009 to make this INCREASE known?

Why is it that the old Linen's and things stays empty? I know why. A Best Buy was going to go in there but the Town Supervisor didn't like the logo;so he nixed the project. Maybe the sales tax would not have to be hiked if one person didn't rule the town.

Really? how much time do you need to plan for an extra $0.00375 charge on every dollar?

If you spend $1000 you will be charged an extra $3.75 with this increase.

This attitude is exactly why we are already over taxed, we should not pay any more taxes, be it a $1000 or $.01

Why do you think we should not have to pay any more taxes? Is it because you don't wanna? And by the way, this just in... you don't have to pay any ontario county sales tax if you move to another county, or state. So quit complaining and do something about it.

My argument was not if we should or should not be taxed..... I was wondering how much time someone need to be told they will have to pay $3.75 dollars more for every $1000 they spend.

General business law states that for MOST increases to take effect, LEGALLY, the populace requires (30) days notice.

I still don't know what the big deal is on this. We knew about this several months ago. It was in the Canandaigua mess. It looks like news team 10 reported this as a last minute thing but like I said, we knew about it a long time ago. Look at the bright side fellow Ontario folks, you can shop here and pay 7.5% or you go to Wayne co. and pay 8.0% in a Wallmart and deal with 4x4s with no teeth. And keith, I don't know where you live but I hope they raise your sales tax to 10%

Not that it matters, because we were notified long ago in the Daily Messenger, But "MOST" does not mean all.
