There is no such thing as St. Charles High School. It's either St. Charles East, or St. Charles North. In this case, it's St. Charles North High School.

If you read the full article, it says "St. Charles North High School." |

Lauren was my niece and very special. Her mother and family knew how special she was much more than I did but reading comments on the news articles, my space and face book have given such a tremendous testimonial to just how special and loved she really was. I am proud to have known her and thank everyone whose lives she touched for taking the time to let her family know just how truly beautiful she was. I too know she is dancing with the stars and will be for all eternity. Love you baby and god bless!

I am concerned that these overdriven drill team coaches have pushed the girls too hard. This was evident at tryouts. They have lost site of what the sport is about and have focused on their selfish gain of a state title. This is a team sport, and a source of enjoyment and for those who love dancing and commradry. The coaches we have seen over practice and over rehearse these girls to exhaustion. Did any of them try to revive her in that CPR should have been attempted. Time was opf the essense .She may have had a heart condition, but again, these coaches need to back it down a bit and think of the health and safety of all the athletes. The coaches have squeezed the pleasure part of the sport out and instilled too fierce of a sense of competition...losing sight of everything that is in the best interest of the girls. I don't like these coaches and we are on to them. The human body can only endure so much. Stop trying to push Drill Team above everything else in these girls' lives. You even steal family time....now back it down. Girls, speak up when you are tired.....the coaches don't know how you feel and they couldn't do what you do, themselves!

I would like to express my sorrow at this family's loss. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you during this terrible tragedy.
Both my sister and I are have MVP. In layman's terms, mitral valve prolapse is a floppy mitral heart valve; this valve "flops" opened and closed, and full flow is impeded, however, not stopped. In mild cases heart "fluttering", palpitations, or the feeling of skipped heart beats are recurring symptoms. In severe cases, chest pain accompanies stronger fluttering sensations, and the patient can become frightened, leading to hyperventilation and temporary loss of consciousness. Females are most often affected, either congenitally or by valvular damage sustained as a result of scarlet or rheumatic fever. Symptoms are most noticable for females pre- and post-menses, during times of PHYSICAL OVER-EXERTION AND DEHYDRATION, during times of emotion or physical stress, and while the patient experiences a drop in serum potassium level. Panic attacks can also contribute to onset of symptoms. HOWEVER, NO ONE DIES OF MVP, and this was a wreckless statement to release, to print. There is something else involved here; OVER EXERTION, DEHYDRATION, vitamin K deficiency due to previous two(potassium), poor diet or medication or supplement use may be indicated. Were the students being overworked physically during the time she collapsed? Was CPR administered at the time the student collapsed? Does the staff at North have access to a portable defibrillator and are they knowledgeable it's use? All of these questions need to be answered. |

Oh please, I was on North's drill team and we were never over-worked. I'm a rather lazy person, so if drill team was as intense as you are saying it is then I would surely have quit. As I look back on my high school experience, the most enjoyable part was drill team. It never took away from my family time, if anything it brought us closer together because my parents were so dedicated to the team as well. Yes we all took practice seriously, and worked out butts off but only because we wanted to be so dedicated. North's drill team is State Champions once again (as of yesterday), and they should be very proud of this accomplishment. And I think that's what people are "catching on to":)... not the coaches. Yes, the coach did give her CPR (I'm not sure why it would ever be thought that she didn't) as soon as she collapsed and some of the girls ran to go get the athletic trainer (i know for a fact, I talked to the girls). And the coach is a very well-respected, and well trained health/PE teacher who knows CPR VERY VERY well. Of any faculty in that entire building, she would be the most reliable. By the way, I have MVP and I've seen 3 doctors about. It makes me light-headed and gives me chest pains. MVP could very well have had an affect on this tragic accident, or it could not. It will forever remain a mystery. Everyone loves you Lauren and knows you're up there dancing away :) |

From what ive been reading on lauren, she was a senior captain of North's dance team.. I really want to say that i am so proud of North's team for pulling through the rest of the season. You girls are so strong, i dont think that i could have endured as much as you girls did. I also don't think that our team would have been strong enough to go to state and compete without one of our girls.. when i saw your performances at staate, i had the chills and actually cried during your lyrical routine. You girls are awesome.. Congrats on pulling through for yourselves and for lauren. Im sure she is greatly missed. My heart and prayers go out to her family and you girls. <3
