What is up with Geneseo students being so irresponsible and obsessed with drinking??? Maybe it's the bar they have that's pretty much ON CAMPUS? Hmmm...go figure. I see it hasn't changed any since I graduated in 2007. These idiots give my alma mater a bad name...so sad.

What's truly frightening about this case is the utter lack of basic decency and compassion for another human being. What a joke this sentence is. Yes, of course people need to be responsible for their own choices. But - what happens when someone passes the point of reason and can no longer make decisions for him/herself? That Arman drank too much is not the issue. Where was the compassion of his so-called frat "brothers" who blithely put him passed out in a bedroom and then went out to a local bar because their house party had been shut down? No one checked on him all night until the next morning - and, oh yeah, they changed his shirt before they called 911, a completely calculated and heartless move designed to protect themselves. I strongly encourage all students to look out for each other and to do something to help out a friend or stranger in need - even if it's just anonymously calling 911. Don't just leave someone there to die.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH PENALTY!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD TO SPEND EVERY NIGHT IN JAIL & BE RELEASED DURING THE DAY TO WORK TO PAY FUNERAL COSTS, AUTOPSY EXPENSES, COURT COSTS & ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT COSTS RELATED TO ARMAN's HOMICIDE. SUNY GENESEO SHOULD ALSO GIVE THEM ZERO CREDIT FOR THEIR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.

ALCOHOL ABUSE IS RAMPANT IN GENESEO BECAUSE WE ARE A TOWN WITH NOTHING TO DO. OUR MERCHANTS LOVE STUDENTS' BUCKS BUT DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO REALLY MAKE THE STUDENTS FEEL WELCOME IN THE TOWN.

That's ALL they got for what they did??? A joke....spoiled little boys from the suburbs...great lesson for them to learn how to get away with murder. Hope the civil suit brings them to their finacial knees.

Trust me, if he went to Geneseo, he had snuck into the IB (the bar) with a fake ID at some point. I'm just saying that I thought the school was getting better...they claimed they were making stricter rules with frats and alcohol in general...guess it wasn't true. There are Freshman who get drunk out of their minds in their own rooms there...it's crazy. And if you knew anything about Geneseo, you would know, like someone else said, that there is nothing to do there but drink and see a movie and then there is a bar on campus...what do people expect?!

People expect for young college students to go to work, or study, or how about throwing a descent party w/o any alcohol involved. It is not MANDATORY to drink/serve alcohol at parties.

You don't know the kid... so you dont know if he snuck into the IB. Freshmen get drunk in their dorms at nearly every college in the nation. and if you knew anything about geneseo you would know that there is not a bar on campus.

And I totally agree with you Dewey. I am just saying that kids who THINK that drinking is the only way to have fun, will do it bc they have access to it. I went there and never took one drink the whole time...even when I was of age. Drinking and getting drunk is just not MY idea of a good time...

What kind of a sentence is that? Those kids got away with murder....disgusting that someone thought weekends in jail and probation is enough punishment. Whatever happened to an eye for an eye justice?

That's really not the point. The point is, is that college students in Geneseo have WAY TOO MUCH easy access to alcohol. I am sure it's like that most places, but we are talking about Geneseo. Having a bar right off of the campus is NOT a good idea. These guys should definately be serving more than weekends in jail and probation...what a joke!

PS And thank YOU for knowing how to spell!

Just curious as to those who say
there is nothing to do in Geneseo
except a movie or resturant- what
is it students are looking for or
expect to find in a small town ?
just curious.

Rochestergirl - every college has a bar within easy walking distance. the bars are not as much the problem because the drinkers there are supervised, while the drinkers at sport parties, frat parties, dorm parties are NOT supervised, everyone there is too drunk to exhibit good judgement.

Are you saying that the only reason kids who go to geneseo drink is because there is a bar close to campus?

again there are bars near every campus.... are you asking for a law that no bar be put within a certain distance of a college campus?

There really isn't much for the college kids or the residents of Geneseo to do. Everything except the bars, Walmart & Wegmans close up by 8pm.

Where do you think the money for a civil suit is going to come from? Have you ever spent a night in jail? I believe that this is quite a lesson for all involved, especially since these kids were only doing what was done to them. This doesn't just happen in Geneseo, it happens on ALL college campuses in our nation and education/discipline needs to begin in middle school.....because that is where the binge drinking really begins! Parents need to take their blinders off and talk to their children! Don't blame these young men for this death....it is our society and the lack of responsibility on the part of all adults. Point the finger at yourself!

Walmart & Wegmans are both
open 24hrs. in Geneseo. Students who choose Geneseo as their school,
I,m sure visited the campus and village before making their selection.
If they wanted 24hr nightlife and entertaiment they should have stayed
in NYC or chosen another school in a large city. 25 miles down 390
for entertainment is not much of a drive since they seem to be bored
and have enough spare time. I went to school at Alfred- a village
smaller than Geneseo- and we never expected the village to entertain
us. We amussed ourselves on campus or went away for overnight or
weekend.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
