$2.5 Million? While I understand the father's pain at the loss of his son, this sounds like he's trying to make money off of it. Unless, of course, he's donating it to a charity....teach the students and the college a lesson, but not make a profit personally.

Usually people set up scholarships and do things that keep the lost loved one’s memory alive….

Did they hold him down and then pour it down his throat? I am sorry that he died but the father should take in consideration that his son was also at fault. But the good old american way SUE.

The way the headline reads, it makes it sound like the father would be ok with it if the frat was sanctioned.

That boys death was tragic. However those 6 young men did not seek out that boy. Nor was he forced against his will. At what point is a young adult responsible for their own actions? And if blaming someone, wouldn't the parents of this boy be equally to blame for not preparing him to be unsupervised in the real world. Don't stop teaching your kids at any age or dealing with any subject. even the ones like alcohol

Yea, I can't imagine the college students would be able to pay a million dollar lawsuit. What a waste of the courts time and money. And suing the property manager???? It's none of their business what goes on at a property they rent to others. I don't want landlords nosing around peoples property to protect themselves from getting sued. You rent from a landlord. Whatever kind of misdeeds go on there is NOT their business!

How about blaming the kid who drank himself to death. No one held a gun to his head and MADE him drink...it was his choice.

Another classic example of people not taking personal responsibility for their OWN actions.

I guess money will heal the loss of this mans son. Maybe dad should sue himself for not teaching his underage son about not doing things that are illegal and can kill you.

Our underage kids are drinking just like all the ones before them. U can close your eyes and rant how your against it.....don't tolerate it, but, they're still doing it. How good does it sound when your child is in a grave. I have one high school student and three college students. I teach my own kids. I don't wait for someone else to do it. Grieve and stop blaming!

The boy acted like a fool and there's nothing to sue over.Greed is the motivation here. Sueing kids for 2.5 million makes no sense. Why wasn't the father with his kid like I am with my kids?

exactly. or, if you feel really bad, do a couple of sessions at a local rehab center and get it off of your chest with some kids that you MIGHT be able to help. making a lawyer rich ain't the cool way to fly.
who IS his lawyer anyway Scummellino and Barnemanure?

Too bad the son died because he made 'bad choices' by himself (not the kids that helped him). We are all given choice. He didn't make a good choice, now we all have to pay in insurance costs because of this man's son's decision to be STUPID in college by trying to join a fraternity and drink in doing it.

Guess his mommy and daddy didn't take the time to explain the dangers of drinking too much alcohol to him before he left for college instead of suing because of his death BY son's BAD CHOICES.

I agree with suing they need to be held accountable. however the money should go into something educational not into someones pocket. the bot obviously wanted to belong so badly that he used poor judgment, but this type of stuff has been going on for years and needs to stop he is not the first to die from hazing.

While as a community, we are saddened by such a story, this young man participated in such events that contributed to his own death. I will be shocked if the courts rule "wrongful death". Perhaps no one has told the father about contributory negligence.

Laurie, THEY ARE BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE, it's called JAIL. One of them has already been sentenced, and the others are still going to court, but their senetence will come. Suing is NOT the answer. People that always think "lawsuit" sicken me. Haven't you noticed the sue happy society we live in today. The truth is, these kids ARE being held accountable, by the COURT, and suing them isn't going to change anything, except maybe ruin more lives. Didn't you read the article? They're going to sue the property owner?? What did HE have to do with it? NOTHING. He rented a space. What happens there in the wee hours of the night is NONE OF THE LANDLORDS BUSINESS. He is not respoinsible for this poor mans death. No more so than the college, the village, or the next door neighbors.

It's all about GREED....His parents trying to take financial advantage of their own sons death, which ultimately will just line the pockets of Alexander & Catilano, Celino & Barnes, or William Mattar. Dispicable.

Amen Mr Skeptical!! Six college kids don't have any money, the Father just wants money from the property owners insurance policy!

Um, yes it is, and for reasons just like this one. A LL stands to lose his property from sanctions, fines, judgments, and in some cases confiscation if some slimebag lawyer can prove (s)he knew or should have known of illegal activities going on in the properties (s)he rents out.
You're right, though, no college kid is going to have the resources to pay a judgment, which is why this lawyer is suing anyone with an insurance policy who could possibly be related to the incident.

If the judge/jury aren't swayed by emotion, they will likely decide on a percentage of contributory negligence and reduce any judgment by that amount.

Yet one more item of proof as to why I have NO, NONE, nodda, ziltch, squat diddly, respect for the supposedely higher educated amongst us. I can't think of anything in the last 10 years that college educated folks have given us, except greed and corruption. I say it's time to shut down half of our colleges and universities, so we can then be selective in the students entering there. We have enough of the loser college educated boyz and gurlz running our state and federal governments. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to put the yeoman back into power. You school kids stink. A big group of over-empowered criminals, just waiting to be caught, and let free by you fellow classmates. You all suck.
