Don't park your car on the street unless you have to. If you park in your driveway, park as far up in the driveway as you can. Drive-offs have existed at gas stations for a long time and there have been too many of them. The ones who are stealing/purchasing stolen gas probably have big full-size suv's or pick-ups. If they can't afford to fill their tanks, they shouldn't be driving. I'm not saying all those with big full-size suv's or pick-upsare stealing gas. Every time the auto industry manufactures these huge vehicles, we have a gas crisis. Unfortunately, some individuals/families need these full-size vehicles to drive their families around.

How about all the gas the Sheriff's Deputies have been stealing from the county tax payers for years. Take home cars everywhere. Some investigate that?

These thieves have been stealing gas for quite some time now and there really has not been much done to stop it. But now because someone stole gas from Fletcher's wife he decides to be concerned about the gas thefts.

As a family member of a sheriffs deputy I know the reason cars go home with deputies is because they go on and off duty from home and if need be because of a crisis they can be called to report instead of having to go to the department garage and get the squad. This is particularly important in rural areas

Concerned in Twin Cities: Gas thieves probably aren't SUV owners. If you can afford to have the thing, why would you need to steal gas. If you're halfway intelligent, and you can't afford it, you've probably already gotten rid of it. It's probably somebody who doesn't have a job, drives a $200 beater and doesn't have insurance.

I agree with you and I know I do not nor do I have the need to steal gas for my 2008 Lincoln Navigator.

This has been a problem for awhile now. Interesting that nothing is done until the Sheriff is a victim. Wouldn't locking gas caps solve this problem? Oh and drive-offs have been a problem for a long time in my neighborhood. My local Holiday and SA are both pre-pay and have been for a long time.

I know it's getting bad when I go to a gas station, and they were willing to authorize the pump without my credit card or DL. I was actually suprised, and had to have the clerk repeat himself. I'm so used to pay at the pump or prepay, I forgot that I used to be able to just pull up, pump, and pay. Good greif.

This was clearly done intentionally by protesters of the upcoming Rethuglican convention. Get'em Bob! Are your concentration camps for protesters fully operational yet, Herr Fletcher?

It would have been equally off topic but at least useful.

I am all for police driving their cars home. I don't know about you but the more cop cars parked on my street at night , well the better I feel.

If you have to park on the street, park so your gas cap faces away from the street.

I bought a second car because I was sick of having to fill my Tahoe up every week at $100 bucks a crack. Now the Tahoe sits in the garage except for when it is pulling a boat. I drive an S10 to work now and it does have a locking gas cap. The problem is that most crooks have advanced passed siphoning and are now on to drilling through the gas tanks. I wonder how they do it? Wouldn't you think drilling into metal would cause sparks??
