Ocean Springs is broke! Does she really think she can run the state after the pitiful job she's done as mayor?

Connie has gotten things done, but she has put the city in a weak financial position. She loves to take credit for everything good that happens, but doesn't seem to know how to give credit to her employees are fellow elected officials. When have you heard her step up and take the blame when things don't turn out the way she planned. The article speaks for itself. There is not one mention of the men and women that run the city day to day, or the elected members of the board that bring ideas and plans of action to the meetings. What do you say Ocean Springs

If in fact she wants to run for that position State Treasurer. she should Dismiss her self from office. THAT she is holding,(OR SHE SHOULD TAKE A PAY CUT NOW!) Due to the fact she is not taking care of business in her own town. OCEAN SPRINGS MISSISSIPPI WAKE UP! ITíS OUR MONEY!

So is she good or not?

I've heard both good and bad about her.

What has she done that's 'good?' How about 'bad?'

Moran gives credit to her Board and staff all the time. Most of the projects you see (downtown upgrades, front beach, public safety center, sports complex on 57) are paid for mainly by grants or the 2% tax on restaurants that voters passed. OS has a AA bond rating -- best on the coast. The city cut their budget last year and eliminated positions, and still cut the millage rate on property taxes. Pretty good balance if you ask me, although it could always be better.

Grant Money? Is that free money? No, it's tax payers money and with the state of the federal government I would appreciate it if they would quit giving my money away. When exactly will the 2% disappear? Never, it's here to stay.

Mr. Dane, you made reference about it being a "pretty good balance". Was your position eliminated? Have you had your hours cut? If not maybe you should refain from commenting on the budget and the good balance.

Interesting balance 'in the weeds'.

At first you say you're a tax payer and you have an opinion to express as to how your money is spent.

Then you you infer that you had your pay cut, and if others haven't they don't get a say in the matter.

Can't have it both ways....

No greyhaired, you "ass"umed. Never said my pay was cut or if I lost my job. It's easy to say that the budget is balanced and it being a good thing when that balancing has not affected you.
You keep right on "ass"uming things!!!

Weeds- read it again. I said you inferred it. Never stated that you 'said' it. Gotta read all the words before responding next time.

Does Ocean Springs really need the sportsplex?

They already have 2 large soccer fields, 2 tennis court areas, at least 4 baseball fields, I mean really? They really need that?

And 'the Public Safety Center?'

C'mon -- that's code for they want to set up an area in the East side of the city so they catch speeders and other 'traffic offenders.' It's another sham to get ticket revenue for the city. They have 3 fire stations and a police substation within one fire station now. They don't need a new cop station.

All that aside -- even if Connie does get elected, and given she's a Democrat, I doubt it, she's in WAY over her head. Jackson is not Ocean Springs.

She doesn't have allies to back her up and the board won't bend over backwards for her.

On top of that, the Democrats in Jackson are primarily black folks, and from the Delta and the northern part of the state.

They don't care about making the state pretty, all they care about it taking money from the coast and other richer parts of the state and redistributing that money to their cities and counties.

Connie might think she's qualified to run, but she's way in over head.

And as treasurer -- she thinks she's going to have it easy 'managing' money?

Sweetheart -- Jackson doesn't manage money, they chop it up and steal it and give it either to their connected good old boy networks, or to the people in their districts.

You go an hour north of the coast and you might as well live in Mexico. Other than Hattiesburg - there is nothing all the way to either Meridian or Jackson. And then from there, there's nothing all the way to Memphis....

She better sober up.

Well if she can clean this state up from all the graft and corruption I wouldn't mind supporting her.

I just asked because if you do read the Clarion Ledger, the paper for the Jackson area, you know just how entrenched certain voting blocs are in the legislature.

And certain parts of the state take far more from the general fund than they put into it. And we're one of the groups who pays more in than we get out here on the coast.
