I cannot believe that a State Representative would try to get a bill to Ban people that are Obese from Restaurants. I thought we had laws that stopped people from discriminating against others - why aren't the people of Mississippi mad and why are they not taking action against someone that clearly has discriminated. I watched State Rep. Mr. Read on the Early Show this a.m.- State Representative Read looks like he could stand to loose a few pounds himself.
This is not a way to help someone of size. When you openly embarrass a person, this never helps. Many Obese people are Obese becaue they do not have the money to purchase food that could help them. They eat what they can afford. Many people just like to eat. How did he think they would handle this - what is Obese to one may not be Obese to someone else. State Rep. John Read needs to do his job, not dictate to people about their size.

Sometimes it is just not enough to say "I really didn't mean it" when you have said something so incredibly ignorant and rude. Didn't his Mama teach him ANYTHING?

Really? I have so many thoughts! I have family in Mississippi and I am stunned that this guy, who is from Mississippi, and is perceived/expected to have his finger on the pulse of his state, honestly believes that THIS is Mississippi's biggest problem! Can we say Poverty? Education? Healthcare? Well, I have a suggestion on how to make this work. At fairs there is usually a measuring stick at the entrance of each attraction and a sign that reads: "You must be this tall to ride this ride". This probably also appears on Rep. Read's favorite T-Shirt, but that is for a different blog. Anyway, they can install a scale at the entrance of each restaurant (much like the ones used at vets to weigh horses and other large animals). It could have a sign that reads “You must weigh under this amount to eat here”. They could also do this at grocery stores! This way, folks would have no access to food and then be forced to drop weight! This idea can be expanded to many areas! There could be a version for intelligence as well! There could be an I-Q test machine at the entrance of places such as government offices. If you do not pass the I.Q. test, you are not allowed to enter! Wait…if they did that, then there would be one at the Mississippi Capital and State Legislature Chamber. Rep. Read would not be able to enter and these much needed bills could not be introduced….. Oh the dilemma of it all…… this won’t work at all….. I guess we will just have to go back to selective discrimination. Guess I will bring this to a close. I am going to run grab lunch while it is still legal.

"...says he wasn't trying to offend anybody by filing a bill that would ban restaurants from serving food to obese customers.

He says he never even expected his plan to become law."

Yeah right, you knew THIS was coming down the pike after the anti smoking bans, banning smoking in allmost any place but home, bills out to ban cell phones while teens are driving now being expanded to everyone, and now banning fat people.

This is only the beginning, just the fact that a politician numbskull comes up with this stupid idea at all and puts it out in the public should be scary. Don't know why these morons can't do the job we are paying them to DO- not be our personal habits or fashion police or monitoring our books and bedrooms, but running the dam country and finances!!
