Plan would put housing on Lowery Island
Sen. Tommy Moffatt, R-Gautier, met with representatives of the city of Pascagoula and the Secretary of State's Office on Friday about a plan to lease Lowry Island and develop housing and commercial uses on it.
The island is in the Pascagoula River near Escatawpa. The Secretary of State's Office, which controls the island because it has a tidelands area designation, is a little concerned about the impact of development there because of the wetlands, Moffatt said. Any housing developments built there would likely not be very big because the ground is soft, Moffatt said. The plan is just developing. There is a bill in the Senate to allow the land to be leased, but no action has been taken. Read more

Who would be responsible for this island's infrastructure. I for one think that what is located in Jackson County and the city's of the county are not being maintained as they should. Toilets don't flush properly, the water is disgusting,sewage in your yards, potholes big enough to lose a vehicle in, and every one wants to raise taxes, so how far will we have to bend over for this one and say with a smile thank you for screwing us again
