Gulf, you need to lighten up just a bit. You make some good points. I am more relieved that Dr. Walker is officially off the school board. Ms. Wrigley should be applauded for trying to help make that change. I don't think she really thought that she would get the position on her first crack at it, but wanted to let the board of aldermen know who she was and that she wanted to start getting involved with her community. We do need some young blood on the horizon that can take leadership rolls when our current older community leaders decide they have done their time. Congrats Ms. Wrigley and keep getting involved. Your time will indeed come.
Hey -- your city, not mine. I never meant offense, was just trying to get you guys to think a bit. If you guys wanna risk your city/school budget with such a person & your elected representatives approve such a move, your call, not mine. Your town, not mine. Your tax money, not mine, etc.

Good luck. I get a feeling they're about to take a meat ax or worse a chainsaw to EVERY local budget. School, city, county, etc....but again as the saying goes "not my war to fight" so I'll stay out of it, was just offering advice.

I don't usually comment on these things, but seriously... Gulf, did Wrigley scorn you at some point or something? You clearly have some personal stake on all the. She didn't get the position, so what is the big deal? I spoke with someone who was in the interviews and apparently it wasn't her bubbly disposition as you suggest. She had quality substantive answers more than one would expect for her age and it was impressive. But, they went with someone with more experience in the end. And, for the record, two of the current board members have zero experience in education and one is an attorney who no longer practices. Keep that in mind next time. And work on some forgiveness. I mean whatever she did to you cant be that bad- she is just a "kid" after all.
Never did any thing to me. Never even met/spoken with her. Just go by what I read in the newspaper.

Again -- I don't live in Ocean Springs. If you guys feel like she's the path you wish to take with your school district budget then I wish you well. Again, as I said I don't pay taxes there so its not my fight, was just trying to offer advice.

As I said though if that's how you wanna go forward with your path then good luck.

Gulf, given her age she is quite "advanced" in her progress. The fact that she has the drive to obtain feats at such a young age should be a testament to both her passion to serve the community and her work ethic to do so. You keep mentioning we shouldn't trust a 20 something with a multi-million dollar budget. Need i remind you she would make no decision on her own. She clearly has some time of competence and or financial qualifications as she currently sits on the Economic Development Council for the City of Ocean Springs.

She is married to Jason Payne, Member of the City of Ocean Springs Zoning and Adjustment Board. Ms. Wrigley also has a younger brother who is currently in the school district and will likely have children of her own in the school district in the future.

I am not sure if she was ready for this responsibility now, but I feel she was certainly qualified to be included in the discussion. I praise Mrs. White for her 30 years of experience. However she is of the "old guard" and hasn't worked within the school district in nearly a decade. Her experience prior to that was as administrator over the Alternative School. To me she was a candidate behind the times that is likely to keep the district in now instead of making changes for the future. Whereas, Ms. Wrigley; a recent Product of the School district and a more recent and different prospective of the school district. She also has a current interest in the education of her sibling and how the district should operate at the time in which her children (should she have them) attend.

Gulf,
Your city has enough of its own problems. Please lend your comments and suggestions to them.

Yes Gulf the Moss Point School System might want to try some young successful individual like Ms.Wrigley to help find a modern day solution to problems that have produced the pathetic and dismal level/rating they have had for years. She is a direct product of the Ocean Springs School System who had two young ladies finish in the top ten the year that she received her JD from the prestigeous Ole Miss Law School. She was also the President of the Law School student body in her final year there. She has been and will continue to be a achiever. And based on some of the comments on this forum a law degree might be more valuable on this board than an accounting degree to help keep some of the other board members out of trouble.

Well no, I'm not gonna stfu.

Just gonna point out "hey, its your money, not mine."

I don't think schools are funded via sales taxes in the city & that's the extent to my patronizing of taxes to the city or the school district.

So all of you paying either school property taxes or renting to somebody who pays school property taxes -- your money, your say.

And if you wanna take on what I view as a hilarious risk then that's on you. As for the 2 non-education professionals who are on the schoolboard. Well, if I was you guys I'd be calling my BOA rep & asking them to remove them come next selection time....

But again as the old saying goes "your money, not mine, risk it as you please."

I like Ocean Springs & know a lot of ppl there for old times sake, so I was trying to give advice, that was all. I'd like to urge you once again to keep in mind though -- remember in TWO YEARS your budget for the city has been shrunk by a QUARTER. Fast forward 2 years & you do the trend line....

As I said, good luck in whatever you guys select to do. "Not my war to fight."

Ah so she's married to somebody on the zoning commission -- that explains everything when I mentioned "knowing somebody". I imagine if it went further you'd find other friendships of ppl in 'the right places.'

That being said I don't live in Moss Point, I think that's just where the internet connection I use routes thru. And believe you me, you don't have to tell me about that sh*t hole. trolololololol

The only thing I'll ad is that now that Walker is gone -- maybe bringing in White with her old guard views as you call it is the right thing?

Perhaps its just Ms. Walker lost her way since Katrina & since Connie & Friends came into power? Not that those fossils on the BOA haven't been there long enough either...time for some of those BOA ppl who have been there forever to retire.

I remember Ocean Springs pre-Katrina. It was pretty fun & nice back then....

I don't live in the city of Moss Point. The only reason it says that is because I believe my internet connection is routed thru that city.

Does anyone here know who owned that land that was purchased for the high school? I was told it was a Cedar Point type deal; that insiders made it happen despite the fact that it is far, far away from OS and will cost us more in gas for the school buses, and that the road is very narrow and dangerous for teen drivers. I also want to know about the supposed wetlands on it, 30 acres? Why buy property when it's wetlands and the taxpayers have to pay for MORE land to put into mitigation? Who owned the mitigation land? Anyone named Walker or Harris?

This is a very good question that should be very easy to find out through the records at the JC Court House.Very odd location.Property contained a lot of wetlands.Big money spent on mitigation.I have heard people say Harris and the Walkers were involved in directing new high school to the site.Remember the press release about Scott Walker developing some adjoining propety? Now that Sharon Walker is no longer on the school board maybe the facts will come out.

When I first heard a few yrs back they were building there I was a bit confused as well. At first I thought they were just building it there as a deterrent to Gautier annexing any more land south of there.

But at the time I wondered for instance why they weren't building the school say up off of Ocean Springs Road or off Highway 90 down between 57 & Walmart because they have all that undeveloped land & its within the city limits.

Building something right on the highway I figured @ least would be easier to manage.

Looks like it was another good old boy type deal.
