I feel certain Rickets will print that in the his newspaper. If John Gill is in the Walkers pocket and he already voted to appeal the Phycamore case to Ms.Supreme court even after being told by the city attorneys the city cannot win he needs to go.It sounds like the Walkers bought his vote by promissing him their support which in my opinion is the kiss of death this election cycle.

I don't know them personally but I "know" who both Ms. White & Ms. Wrigley are. White is very qualified for the position due to her experience in education.

How in the world Ms. Wrigley got to as far as she did is beyond me. A younger relative of mine knew Ms. Wrigley from school & I'm sorry but somebody that young has no business being on the school board due to experience issues. I'm sure she's a nice person & I'm not judging her based on her personality or anything like that but they wanna bring somebody on the school board who's barely out of school herself with no real experience? Nepotism?

She or her family must know the various people who voted for her on the council. Nobody her age is qualified for being in that position. And if the newspaper is correct -- what education related experience does an attorney have or expertise with regards to the school board? How she almost got on is kinda scary. If she comes back in a decade or so then sure if she gets some expertise in the education field then she will qualify. But my word, they were willing to put somebody on that panel who isn't even 30 years old? Are they nuts?

That was John Gill's top candidate after his vote for Sharon Walker. He was reak close to pulling it off.

I agree that she is young, but I think it is refreshing that young people want to get involved. I wish more people "under 30" did. If walker couldn't talk her way into reappointment, it doesn't make sense that this Wrigley girl could talk her way onto the board. I think white was the better candidate but I also think we shouldn't discont the other candidates when we weren't involved in the process.

Don't know the man personally but if this is true he sounds like an idiot. That or its the daughter of one of his buddies or something like that.

A 20 something attorney? Really?

I mean if you have somebody who's like 30 or 35 with a PhD in education yeah maybe I can kinda see that but wth does a lawyer know about or have expertise in regarding education? I know the school board has attorneys or whatever but you'd think she'd apply for that job.

Why was she even seriously considered? She "knows" the right people? That seems to be the basis for most jobs around here.

Again, dunno the person on a personal basis. I'm sure she's a nice enough person but what qualifies her to oversee such a large budget & district? That's not just stupid, its nuts. They had a woman who was an ex-principal & to think they actually had to vote on & debate this issue.

I know Mr. Cox, he's a nice guy but it seems some of the other ones need their head checked.

The three aldermen that supported Mrs. White were Bobby Cox, Chic Cody, and Matt McDonnell. John Gill, Jerry Dalgo, and James Hagan went with Mrs. Wrigley. Jerry Dalgo broke the log jam and switched his vote to Mrs White and the other two followed him to make it a clean sweep.

Obviously Ms. Wrigley got as far as she did based on a very strong interview. While yes she is young why would anyone think it should be a certain age required to apply.I feel she could relate to the needs of the students much better than a 70 year old nice women. And they are not passing out those law degrees at Ole Miss. You have to work very hard to get there. At the present time you have two OSSB members that when compared to Ms.Wrigley would not be any more qualified.Who did they know? I think her finishing as well as she did says a lot about her and nothing else.

You have to give Ms.Wrigley a lot of credit for stepping foward and promoting herself for the position. If nothing else she kept Sharon Walker from being in the top 3 and did all of Ocean Springs a favor.Walker is known as a self interest bully of sorts on an off the OSSB.Never again should anyone be allowed to own a position on any board like she thought she did.Ms.Wrigley and the other applicants showed her she did not,it belongs to the people. Thanks to all 8 of you!

Taranto needs to be the next board member to go. He supported Walker and lobbied for her with the Aldermen. Why? Cause he is a very tainted man himself. I hope all remember that when his term comes up. Does anyone know if a board member can be removed before their term ends for questionable actions that can be brought to the Aldermen and Mayor's attention before the term ends? If so,chances are he can be taken off now if truth be told.

Now we have to know what Timmy T has done.

If I knew Timmy could be terminated early for his violations I would sing like a canary. But if not, I will hold my tongue for another year when community outrage at his actions will be critical to his removal. Let me assure you Timmy has a friendly circle of politicians and good old boys close by. He has abused his power on the school board for his own personal gain and for his friends as well. Wake up Ocean Springs and start asking questions...

Several administrators were fired from the school district this year (from assistant superintendent to assistant principal to teacher to coach), for reasons of misuse of OSSD funds, getting drunk on school trip, conflict of interest and because they were known to be gaining in their own financial business because a friend gave them a contract. Why do they get recorded as resignations? To hide the dirty secrets from the community? Why did Hirsch go into early retirement? Remember the sun herald article of their lack of proper handling when a coach was having relationships with a student. All Hirsch did was try and make it go away quietly before putting bad press on the school. This happens more than the community realizes.

What goes on in closed sessions of the Board that the public has a right to know? Yes they are volunteers on the job but remember it is school funds they control and your kids their actions affect.

Sun herald should inquire on how much the school board spends in legal fees a year trying to sweep things under the rug. OSSD is full of bad people and have to constantly defend them with tax payer dollars when they could use it on our kids education if they would take out the trash and stop tap dancing to appear like a wonderful place.

OSSD is full of good ole boys and will continue to be controlled by a select few unless we as a community wise up and demand answers to many questions that start in that Board room.

The community has a right to know as it is our money in the school budget. Take out the trash and protect the future of our beautiful city.

Yes anyone can be removed from the OSSB for wrong doing.Remember a couple of years ago when the man stepped down from the board because he got caught having an affair with the school teacher? He was getting ready to be removed. If you have anything please come foward.Taranto brings nothing to the position. He loves to hangout with the female teachers downtown at night without his wife.He obviously has no political clout.Proof of this is after his lobbying for Sharon Walker over the past couple of weeks she fell flat. There must be a reason they wanted to keep everything the same on the board. We should all want to know why.

I asked several aldermen if they had been contacted by other school board members. They indicated that they received calls from all of the school board members with the exception of Billy Lee. It seems there is a close knit relationship with Sharon Walker and Tim Taranto is not the only one that pushed for her. I am glad we have some alderman that are not affraid to do what is right even if the status quo says diffently.

Timmy T is a self proclaimed ladies man who loves to tell people he is on the OSSB.He enjoys hanging out with the educators at their favorite bar for drinks and conversations about how great he is.Kinda sad.I really feel for his wife whoever she is.Never see her out with him.Just ask him ,he is very impotent!

Dunno about the other board members, I'm just going by what I read in the public newspaper. So everything I have is "open source" public information via the press. I'm basing my judgment off that & also off my knowledge of her age.

And sorry but the school board has a budget going into the millions or even tens of millions of dollars & nobody that young has any business what so ever being near such a budget.

Anybody with a pretty smile & a perky/positive/"upbeat " demeanor who shows even a half-ass ability to recite the necessary words like "budget" or "goals"(which I dunno for sure but I strongly suspect to be the case as I know 'the type' who gives such 'good interviews') will probably be @ least given a shot.

But let's use some common sense here. I'm not judging her as a person, again, I'm sure she's a nice & pleasant person but let's be honest for a second. Would you rather have a doctor with a tract-record of 20 years experience operate on you or somebody fresh out of med school? Yea, that's what I thought.

And again -- Ms. White, who I also do not know personally from what I read in the paper served in administration, as a principal, teacher, etc. She knows "the business" thru raw experience & hard work over decades of work. Sorry, common sense dictates experience trumps a perky demeanor.

And I'm shocked you can claim she's "qualified" when she's AN ATTORNEY rather than an education professional/specialist. I didn't even know she went to Ole Miss but I'm fully aware of how hard law school is/can be. But again -- would you want a dentist or a nurse operating on you or a doctor? Yea, that's what I thought...

2 questions bother me as well. First -- again its why is a LAWYER trying to be on the school board? What expertise does she have in education? None. Or if she did an undergrad in education she still has bare minimum. And no experience with administration, teaching, budgeting, anything. And second besides a lawyer having no expertise in education its the age issue. I wouldn't let a 20 something surgeon operate on me if I had the option of somebody with a more experienced hand.

NOBODY. NOBODY around here in this region walks right out of college & into such a prominent position @ such a young age without having local good old boys who "know you" pulling all the strings to even get you a hearing. Otherwise you get laughed away. There was a guy with a PhD in education wasn't there? And Ms White has decades worth of experience in education. And you wanna choose....the LAWYER...who's not even 30 yet?

Just because she smiles good & "sounds good" when you ask her questions? The paper said the other day the city of Ocean Spring's budget has shrunk by a quarter in the past 2 yrs. A QUARTER. Can't imagine the school district's budget being in much better condition, & OS is considered the rich city in the region too.

But you wanna entrust a multi-million dollar budget with annual declines of 10+% to a f***ing kid fresh out of law school with no experience in budgeting? I've read some of your stuff & I agree with some of your points but on this I have to honestly ask, are you ok today? No offense intended your judgment is off here.

You're willing to entrust a multi-million dollar budget to a kid just because she's connected, even though she has no expertise or experience in the field she's seeking a job? Really?

Ocean Springs isn't my city & from what I read I'm glad the Walkers are off the public dime but still. You'd entrust an ever-shrinking budget(that's declined by a quarter in the past 2 years)...to a kid fresh out of school? With no expertise(meaning degrees/certs in related fields) or experience?

Kudos to her for helping get Walkers out but some of you guys would hire somebody for a board to oversee a multi-million dollar budget because they have a nice smile & talk "smooth" or good in interviews? That's the only requirement for such an important public position?

Or is it just good old boy politics?

Gulf, you need to lighten up just a bit. You make some good points. I am more relieved that Dr. Walker is officially off the school board. Ms. Wrigley should be applauded for trying to help make that change. I don't think she really thought that she would get the position on her first crack at it, but wanted to let the board of aldermen know who she was and that she wanted to start getting involved with her community. We do need some young blood on the horizon that can take leadership rolls when our current older community leaders decide they have done their time. Congrats Ms. Wrigley and keep getting involved. Your time will indeed come.

I don't usually comment on these things, but seriously... Gulf, did Wrigley scorn you at some point or something? You clearly have some personal stake on all the. She didn't get the position, so what is the big deal? I spoke with someone who was in the interviews and apparently it wasn't her bubbly disposition as you suggest. She had quality substantive answers more than one would expect for her age and it was impressive. But, they went with someone with more experience in the end. And, for the record, two of the current board members have zero experience in education and one is an attorney who no longer practices. Keep that in mind next time. And work on some forgiveness. I mean whatever she did to you cant be that bad- she is just a "kid" after all.
