For the last tme, I chose to make my business smoke free. I made that choice for my employees and for my regular customers who don't smoke. I still don't want Connie Moran or some other bleeding heart telling me how many calories my soft drinks can have or that I can only sell diet food and beverages because evryone is to fat. If you are not smart enough to control your bad habits, don't ruin it for those that can. I want less government and the rigt to make the choices I want to make.

You like the "government" to stop smoking but you won't like it when they interfere with your life in some way...be it zoning or some other ordinance. Be still you bleeding liberals..you whine and complain when your ox is gored and you want laws for every thing you don't like. I hate smoke, I hate being around people who are smoking..but why should I require an entire city be smoke free? All you have to do is avoid those bars, restaurants, business that permit smoking and exercise our capitalistic powers of free enterprise! Today its smoking, tomorrow we will have food police telling us what we can't eat!!!!! Stop this madness....Keep the Government out of our lives!
These laws are being passed mostly for the protection of "Employees" of these businesses, no employee should have to choose their place of employment based on second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is proven without a doubt to be harmful and has no place in ANY business.
All employees deserve a safe place to work.

You also spew crap like "exercise our capitalistic powers of free enterprise" So are you suggesting we let some businesses who choose to have no codes, laws or ordinances? The heck with the fire marshal, health inspector, let all the owners decide everything for themselves.

You as a business owner do have a choice, follow the laws, codes and ordinances made by the experts OR find another line of work.

Well said. Smokers can go smoke at the dump where throwing your packages and butts do no harm, and the stink can join the other stink already there.

The decision on smoking or non smoking lies with the owner of the business...period...myself, I will always choose the business which allows smoking in well ventilated areas...just sayin...

So do we let the business owner decide everything? Get rid of all the health, fire and safety codes, laws and ordinances. What temperature to keep the coolers at? Seating capacity? Building codes? Health codes? The business owner is there to make a buck, you think if he has no codes, laws or ordinances it will be as safe as possible? I think not!

Also for a non-smoker there is no such thing as a well-ventilated business, you smokers couldn't tell the difference, heck you couldn't smell shit if it was on the end of your nose.

Sounds to me your smoking addiction is doing the thinking and talking for you.

This is for health reasons. What if the husband, wife and employees decided they didn't like t wash their hands after going to the restroom?
All employees need to be protected from potential health hazards and second hand smoke has been proven to be a health hazards and laws need to be passed to protect everyone that owns, works or visits that business. Even smokers need to be protected even if they are too stupid or blind to see it for themselves. Hello!!! This isn't the 1970's any longer.

Do you fanatical leftists ever grow tired of your ridiculous circular reasoning where one intrusion is automatically the justification for another...which of course justifies yet another irrational intrusion?

Based on your huge stretch of circular reasoning, Bloomberg's ridiculous salt ban is just dandy, and his soda ban is perfectly reasonable.

Now don't you have something better to do...I mean after all...there are salt addicts and soda pop junkies that need your fascistic overbearing nonsense to save them...from themselves.

Funny how you think I'm a leftist democrat. Just the opposite, I'm a Die Hard Republican! Did your head just explode? This is a health issue you idiot not a political one. Second hand smoke is dangerous and NO employee or patron should be subjected to it. Non-smokers are no longer going to stay home because of you filthy harmful smokers. It's long overdue for the few smokers left, to stay the hell home or just step outside if you need a smoke. How dare you still think you can harm others with your second hand smoke!!! Businesses just don't need you smokers any longer. Many states have proved it. Go to Maryland and see for yourself just how well it's worked for 5+ years. Smokers understand how the public feels about smokers and the potential hazards and they step outside smoke and step back in. It ain't rocket science.

Thanks, but I'd feel safer if we left the Health of employees and patrons up to the experts and not some foolish owners "establishment rules". Remember the owner is out to make a quick buck. The owner has one "right", follow the codes, laws and ordinances or find another line of work.

When something like second hand smoke is proven without a doubt to be harmful then it is the responsiblity of the health departments to protect the employees and patrons. If the don't then they open themselves up to mega-lawsuits in the near future. Many states have acted to protect employees while others like Mississippi keep their heads stuck in the sand. Shame on them!!!

Yea, it's hard to believe that anyone even admits to smoking let alone actually smoking in public. They just don't understand that this isn't the 1970's any longer and people that smoke are basically on the same level as Lepers and I mean no disrepect to the Lepers.

You didn't answer. Say a husband and wife who smoke and they employ people who smoke and if folks don't want to patronize their business because of the smoking the owners are ok with that. What's wrong with that.

Dumb hypothetical. For their on good it should be made smoke free.Another problem with smokers is they drive up the cost of health insurance and the cost of medical care required and paid for by taxpayers. What a total waste of time, money and lives. It has to be the dumbest of all bad habits. So if you want to do it do it at home if you do not have kids.

You just didn't want to hear the answer. Your foolish smoking addiction is obstructing your reasoning ability and comprehension.

Here it is again and this time I'm typing it slower so you can understand it.

Did you find the key words like "ALL EMPLOYEES" and "EVEN SMOKERS"?

Maybe that's why you don't believe the thousands of studies published that prove without a doubt second hand smoke is dangerous and has no place in ANY WORKPLACE. Your smoking addiction blocks this ability to comprehend. So sad!!!

I also can't believe they still allow smoking anywhere in public.
It's just so foul and unhealthy and such an awful rolemodel for kids to see. Smoke all you want just do it in your own home(not apartment as that harms others too).

Correct. These chimneys have killed most brain cells and want to kill the rest. Meanwhile they want to share the world with decent folk and ruin it for us. These lepers need to be shipped somewhare where they can only harm themselves.
