This is a line taken from that article...Sounds to me the Town's Attorney is throwing their Police Officers under the bus. What do you think?

Parsons said it is important to note that it's not the town's decision on who gets cited or arrested for a given offense.

This weekend, my husband and self were out site seeing and drove thru the town of Gauley Bridge. We were looking at the river and not paying any attention. I was not watching my speed and was pulled over by a police officer there. He clocked me doing 36 in a 25 mph zone. I was at fault. I should have paid more attention to what I was doing. The officer was Cl Burkhamer. The officer was very polite and friendly. He gave me a warning warning, which me and my husband really appreciated. I did deserve a ticket. This goes to prove that the Gauley Bridge Police department isnt out there to ticket everybody who is speeding. I know that this post wont matter to anybody, but I wanted everybody to know, I think the press is being too hard on those boys. Thank you again officer Burkhamer for your kindness.

You are the only one who has ever said they got a warning.

this was in the news today http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201010090440...

Raynell Smith says she was driving so slow she pulled over twice to let cars pass the day last July she was given a speeding ticket in Gauley Bridge.

Smith was sightseeing with her 82-year-old mother, who hadn't been through the area in 60 years.

"If anything, I should have been arrested for holding up traffic," Smith said. "I was the last car in a line of cars, and I have Virginia plates."

Her court date is Oct. 20 in Gauley Bridge. She plans on driving about 700 miles round-trip to contest the $150 ticket because she doesn't believe it's right for police to abuse their authority.

"I know I wasn't speeding.... If my local law enforcement officers did this in my city, I'd be outraged," she said. "It's killing the town. I'm surprised the people of the town put up with it."

only reason you got a break is because of all the issues there right now. I'm not knocking officer Burkhammer, but in the past you would have been written... be thankful... it was Burkhammer that stopped you...

I have been ticketed in Gsuley Bridge to, I also was issued a warning. I think it was the Chief who wrote it, the cops are good people all of them so let them alone to do there jobs.

My goodness a few people start getting warnings and all of the sudden these guys are saints. Why do you think they're issuing warnings now? It's not out of the kidness of their hearts.

Well well, It's not hard to figure this out. The nice guy drove a black charger was stated by one. The other stated I think it was the chief of Gsuley Bridge, and I was given a warning. this is all about giving the chief some support, even though they were from Summersville. Congratulations Chief, see when youre' nice and don't issue a ticket to everyone, some will stand up for you and say you are a nice person. I hope you continue this practice and advise your men to give consideration also. It's always the officers descretion to write a ticket, the officer knows when a ticket is deserved. It just doesn't hurt to give a warning evry now and then. Just don't go by the motto of [If I lite ya, I write ya]. Ther are plenty of violators out there that speeds every day and desrve a ticket just know the ones that deserve it. Bridge day is near and people are afraid to drive thru Gauley Bridge, this isn't the type of reputation or department you want to run.

The only reason why they have been giving out warnings is because of all the heat that is in the town. In a month or so warnings will no longer exist once again.

Thats unfair to the people who got speeding tickets.Just because the heat is on them should not make the law be applied differently.

I think someone should file a class action suit.

Bet if those people who got the tickets for 2 mph over the limit had gotten their vehicles calibrated, they would have had to dismiss the tickets. All vehicle speedometers show the car actually going faster than the vehicle is traveling. If the speedometer says you are traveling 25, the vehicle most likely is less about 22 or less. If you have bigger tires on the vehicle, this indeed too could cause the same, your speedometer will be faster than the car is traveling. The people who say the speed limit is posted and just do the speed limit, if you had gotten written, you wouldn't be defending. Furthermore some of the people probabally was doing the speed limit and gotten written. Don't believe me, get a calibration and I bet your speedometer is faster than the actual vehicle is traveling. Well anyhow, I salute the Mayor and Town Council for stepping up and taking action to try to change the image. The image can be changed and G.B. can regain their reputation back as being a friendly Town and wonderful place to visit. Go to Hawks Nest and listen in on some conversations from people out of the area. They are afraid to come to G.B. fearing of getting a speeding ticket. Who does this hurt, the Town and business owners?

The whipkey brothers are going to mt hope pd. You think they will be well recieved when they start writing tickets on rt 19. That be big money maker for mt hope. Poor boyscout camp travelrs now!!!!
Please keep them south down 19 and not let em up this way. Did Gauley get rid of them or did they just leave for greener pasture? If this is true G.B. needs to bring someone in with veteran experience and get the town back to normal practice. Gauley has caught alot of bad publicity but it can and will recover from this. I think the Mayor and Town and Councl will get it done. Towns hate to lose officers, but in this case it is something that had to be done, both sides needed this. Mount Hope, Are you ready for this action?

Yes, please let us know if they moved to Mt. Hope PD. I don't speed but in their case, you don't have to! Mt. Hope PD is always out on Rt. 19 so it will be exactly like it was when they were in S'ville. Heaven help everyone!

i wonder if the town has a speedboat if not they need to get one to write tickets on the river to increase the budget just think they could hire a couple of more officers then in time the town could get a helicopter and catch some speeding planes to make your airspace safe
