Thinking of moving to the area, and wondering is it a good place to live? What's the weather like and is the humidity bad? I know you don't have state taxes, but where do they get you at? What about property taxes? Do you get alot of snow in this area? Any information you can give would be great.

We will never go back to Gatlinburg. The sky lift ripped us off and the manager had no concern what so ever. The streets down town stink like garbage. The locals have rotted out teeth. The red lights are stuck with red showing in both directions for extended periods of time backing up traffic for blocks which we reported on Monday to the police dept. and the following Saturday the problem was still there. The taxes are very high. We live in Myrtle Beach and its like a year round vacation.
Your an idiot for thinking that they would really just let that go unchecked. I assume you are referring to the redlight on River Road at Bennett's BBQ. If so, the lights have to be held longer to let the traffic off the bridge under construction. If you are talking about all the traffic lights, then I will explain. Traffic gets so screwed up because people like you can't drive to save your lives. So, the police have to manually control the major lights with a push button. The police get out there and clear traffic up for a while and then it goes right back to gridlock because of idiot drivers. You show even more of your ignorance saying "the locals have rotted out teeth." You are a moron!!! I am vacationing in MB right now and it gets worse every year. There are bums begging for money everywhere. Traffic is awful and the food is bland at best. Notice I didn't run down your local populis though. Be educated next time you post on here or I will burn you down again.

I agree with Mr. Todd, Gatlinburg is a toilet bowl.
Myrtle Beach is twenty times bigger and better.
And the servers in restaurants are mostly college educated instead of hillbillies up there.
And you are the moron because the traffic lights in Gatlinburg are stuck in red both direction with hardly any traffic compared to Myrtle Beach. In Myrtle Beach the traffic is heavy and moving continuously where in Gatlinburg there is little traffic but what little is there is not moving. And not only that you can walk from one end of Gatlinburg to the other end in about 15 minutes faster than driving, try doing that in Myrtle Beach and you will be walking 18 miles. Now you are the real moron, here's your sign.

If you have money like me, Gatlinburg is great!!! We live just above town in a very nice cabin overlooking town! Great resort town, great shops & places to eat!! We just walk around for hours on some days & hit the great shops & maybe grab lunch & dinner. Then we can just relax in the hottub later & chill knowing that we can do it all over again tomorrow!! Taxes? Don't know, don't care!! We just pay em and don't worry about it!!

I believe Billy Joe and vocal local are one in the same. Trolls!!
Myrtle Beach has gone wayyyyyyyyy down hill. I have been there, and have family who live an hr away from there.
Bums and meth heads out everywhere bugging tourists for money.
I'd rather deal with a toothless hillbilly with manners anyday over a meth head bum begging for a few $$$$ for their next fix.

I do not know about you, but I stay in Hilton brand hotels when I do travel. I have never stayed in a run down dumpy motel, but there are homeless people and meth heads all along the beach and shopping areas there. It's the same way now down in Daytona Beach.

Gatlinburg is AWSOME!!!
Hilton Garden Inn was a terrific place to stay. The night time barmaid was a wonderful person and really made us feel welcome as did all of the staff!
Can't wait to go again...no ace I'd rather be...even though it takes about 8 hours to drive there, it was GREAT!!!!
Thanks for your hospitality!

and we have a dining out tax 10.5, most shopping 9.5, entertainment 11.5. No state income tax. Not sure about property - I mean, I know we have it but now sure how it compares to others.

When I stayed there, there was a Russian bartender(male). He made me some awesome drinks that they drink over in Russia. Very sweet top layers so when you do the shots, you do not taste the alcohol going down. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn back in Feb., and will probably stay there again next yr. I made the mistake of staying at the Days inn back in August.Never again!!!! It was a dump.
Those beds at the Hilton Garden inn are too hard for me though. I see a lot of people talking about that on trip advisor. Other than the bed, the rooms are very clean and nice. We had a fireplace in our room. No jacuzzi.

If you are a redneck you will love Gatlinburg. The shops are owned by a bunch of Yankees, Jews, and stinky Muslims. The food sucks. If you like tacky redneck stuff to hang in your trailer, Nacar crap, airbrushed shirts, pancakes, and mini-golf, then you will love it here. Gatlinburg is over-rated. All of the old folks have sold out to these rich Yankess and Muslims/Pakis movie in to take your money. It's too expensive anyway to live in Gburg. Nothing to do after a week.
Yankees, Jews, and stinky Muslims??? But you're not a red-neck, right? Yeeeaaaaaah...

The question is what is it like to live here, not visit here. It is great living here. The roads are somewhat rough due to the severe winters but that is understandable. Just don't bring a slammed/low rider to town and expect a nice smooth ride. The property taxes are much lower than what I was paying in suburbs of Georgia. As questioned above-they "get you" on sales tax here. The tax rate is around 10% so it's better to buy some if not all major purchases in a lower tax area. The City work crews are great and will move heaven and earth to resolve any problem. The Police can be overbearing at times, especially on DUI's, and will pull tricks to try to entrap you, even if you are within legal. Grocery prices can be higher than average with in-town off-name stores being higher in price and stores such as Food City on the outskirts are better deals. Buy your groceries in the lowlands away from the mountains-prices drop significantly. The restaurants downtown are geared towards tourists in regards to price and it is best to visit them only occasionally as a local. Eat at similar or even same-name chain restaurants out in the lowlands away from the Mtns and pay a fraction of the price as compared to Gat. There are only a handful of restaurants worth patronizing: The Brewery, Calhoun's and Cherokee Grill are some of the top notch establishments. Cherokee Grill is the best on selection of fine cuisine. Be prepared to be snowed in for days at a time in the Winter unless you have AWD, 4WD or FWD(with good tires). Sometimes the power goes out from the snow storms. The local electrical crews of Sevier County are excellent in their timeliness and will have power restored in very short order, blizzards forgiven.

I lived out in Sevierville 3 places(even a bit high there) and was a "fair draw" at HARD ROCK CAFE. MANY there are rude(the area), prices ARE high, traffic sucks, the tourist, find out.... but when one is dissatisfied "there's another one" coming right behind them.It may be a nice "CHANGE OF PACE"... A one time visit, unless you have more money than sense...working @ HRC was THE BEST TIME I EVER HAD!If you go in there.... let any of them know "Ozzy" thinks of them ALL the time. Everyone there was way cool, ONLY A CERTAIN "p e r s o n" just ruined it for 96% of EVERYONE there... BUT WHEN you have POWER... other PEOPLE don't matter much.. HUH, DICK? I mean Nick :-D Newport is decent. plus lived close to North Carolina, the Smokies there are totally BEAUTIFUL !
