Scott County teachers have not had a raise in three years and no "steps". The same thing is going to happen this year. They had a big stink about wasting money on a so-called "Sports Complex" that fell flat after wasting six-figure money on it. It now sits with no excess road. Their central office is in "over load mode".

Vdot told them they didnt have a good enough road to get to it and now they have a field made for.soccer baseball and softball with no good road to it and no parking along with other things. Probly wont be anybody playin down there for years. More like 7 figures too from what i hear.

I heard that a couple of former Board members were going to give some money to have this complex up and ready by the Spering of 2013.

We got people in this county that are homeless, uneducated, jobless, hungry, toothless, needs medical attention, people with no running water, no inside bathroom, have no heat or air condition, no transportation and a sucky life in general. And you guys want a f!!king sports complex? Anyone so small minded and selfish as to turn their backs on their fellow man for a sports complex dont deserve the air they breath. What is wrong with you people anyhow? You do realize that sports is a f!!king game dont you? No game is worth spending big government money when the poor, elderly, sick, disabled and children in this region is doing without. If you want to do something that will give you more satisfaction than watching some dumbazz throw or kick a stupid ball around, take that same amount of money and effort and spend it on the poor and needy in Scott County. I think JESUS would rather see you help the needy than play stupid games.

Maybe these people should get a job like the rest of us or go back to school if they are uneducated And God helps those who help themselves

@ "Go to work". You're a real elitist a$$hole. How do people do that when they are born into poverty? Lee County has been ranked as the poorest county in the entire state of Virginia. And as far as you saying that they should just get a job shows your ignorance. Do you realize the state that the economy is in or have you been living under a rock. Scott County could have put the $6million toward new textbooks, technologies, and retaining good teachers instead of getting ready to lay off a bunch of good teachers. Without good public education and teachers, there will never be any social mobility for the poor and poverty stricken in Scott County and other surrounding counties. We would rather blow a bunch of money on needless things that are not helping are children learn and achieve.

Have you been to Best Buy lately? The economy is just fine. How do the people do that when they're born into poverty? Easy, apply for the numerous government grants for education that my tax dollars fund. And if they need a job how about heading down to any of the numerous places such as McDonalds and others that have "Now Hiring" signs hanging up? But oh no, that might require them to put down the lortabs and bath salts! What a joke! Self determination, people. That's what made this country great and the lack of it is killing our great nation.

. Its recently been discovered that not all teachers and administrators have had their steps and and salariews locked in for three years. There are over 18 who not only received their steps but some got as much as $10,000 to $15,000 pay increases in less than 3 yrs.....don't believe it? Easy to prove....have the county pull the teacher salaries 3 yrs ago....compare the salaries to this year......no one at the sbo is willing to explain it.....so if this is true how can they justify laying off anyone...and those who have not received their steps can now take out a lawsuit....seems to me there are have teachers and have not teachers....

Didn't one of the present SBM run on the knowledge that "certain teachers" were given "certain titles" and those $10,000 raises by the former super? Seems as if they had the word "specalist" in frot of their title and worked after school hours for a short period of time with students. Some of the former SBM say they weren't aware of this policy and were under the impresion that teachers were given steps.

I still say that its a downright shame that anyone will put something as stupid as sports above the fact that people in our region are in need. What part of this statement dont you get? Human beings in our region are in need of food, clothing, housing, medical and dental, and education and a whole he!! of a lot more, and all you can think of is some place to play games and spending your tax dollars on it? You are one pathetic cold hearted dude. YOU SAY GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELFS,WELL I THINK GOD WOULD BE ASHAMED OF ALOT OF PEOPLE THESE DAYS FOR BEING SO UNCOMPASSIONATE TO OUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS.

When the school board/schools get money from the state, It is branched off into certain area's of education. The schools and school board DO NOT decide where the money goes (saying if you get 3 million for buildings, you can't take that and place it into books). If they get money for books, it goes to books and nothing else. If they get money for infrastructure, it goes to infrastructure and nothing else.
