If you now pay for health insurance you should attend the next School Board meeting and ask why you don't receive free insurance as some 80 do in this county. This is a question that the School Board Members should be required to answer. If this is indeed true, every member should be held accountable as to why this unfair practice is being paid for by tax-payer dollars.

I believe the SCEA tried and it never got very far. Individuals have felt fear of retaliation from JS and the board. At the beginning of this year, employees had to start putting a name on a question/complaint/request at the communication meetings.
Mr. Baker was made aware of the situation and was attempting to correct it, but then it all broke loose.

Maybe the reason the SCEA didn't get far was because there was nothing to it??

nothing to what? Hard working employees paying for other employees' insurance???
Maybe the fear of being moved or harrassed? Maybe lame SCEA leadership in the county?? Maybe because most of the admin were receiving it and wouldn't like it? hmmmm....
From the March 8th School Board Mts.
Superintendent Baker reported that 80 (plus) employees (spouses that both are
employed by the school division) are currently not being charged any premiums for their
health insurance policies and explained that this has been done for a number of years.
He explained that if these employees would be required to pay a premium this would be
approximately $153,000 in additional premiums and a 3% revenue increase. He
explained that Anthem recommended a 10% increase in health insurance premiums.
He explained a need to keep premiums down and asked board members to inform him
of their recommendation. Several board members voiced that all employees need to pay
their fair share of health insurance premiums. He explained that the school divisionís
Health Insurance Consultant, Matt Smith, will be asked to attend the March 29 school
What was the outcome of the consultants presentation on the 29th???
The insurance consultant threw up his hands and said " I have never seen anything like this!" All I can say is this is the way Jim Scott wanted it.

Mr. Baker has known about this since becoming school attorney. I am sure that he would take credit for correcting it though. Just like his big spill on professionalism and gossip. And look at him now.

How do you know he was aware? It was the best kept secret ever. He was not receiving it and was probably not made aware for the fact that it is illegal. He may have known, I don't know, but all that I care about is that he did call it to the public's attention. I am not giving Scott County's version of Bill Clinton much credit, but that he did do right!

OF COURSE HE DID....he was under heat for everything else. DUH...someone brought it to his attention and as the Super, he is the one that has to address it to request a change (Chain of Command). Besides, he was not even present tonight to address it further.

Just when i thought that we might be getting somewhere with the insurance....J.F. gets appointed as interim super. I am sure that he will want to keep this "perk" since him and his wife both work in the system. All these years and he has never reported it....makes me wonder.

Duh??? really?? How old are you? evidence?
Chain of Command? What happened to supervisors as leaders? Is the Super the only one that can address the board and stand up for what it right?

If GB was not present, then did the new interim address the issue as his first official act of business? Or, the board members since they have been made aware several weeks ago?

hate to tell you this but the new interim and his wife have received this perk for years. Why should he address it when he himself is part of the problem?

shouldnt the commonwealth attorneys office or the state investigate if it was brought to their attention?? these are public funds that are being misused right?

Like it or not, there really isn't anything illegal about it. Here is why...JS could have used it as a hiring incentive to boost employment in the system. He could have had it written down at a "signing bonus" just like other counties do when they give new teachers a bonus for working in their county. Even though it only goes to couples, that is how it is worded on paper. This is why there are no legal moves to be made. I agree it isn't fair but that's just the way it is.

Why would couples who have 30 plus years have this free insurance? They were in the system before JS was Super. The system uses a standard contract that says nothing about "signing bonus". They have a pay scale in place.

So, if it was used as a signing bonus, these employees received it when they were first hired?
They didn't get the perk after they were already in the system? hmmm...
records should tell us, right?

Why would some couples not have this "signing bonus" when they were hired? The system has several couples who have not had this "signing bonus". You are right, the records will speak the truth. The Chairman of the Board of Supervisors should check into this. How about the School Board Attorney?

The Chairman will hopefully check into it. The Attorney is Greg B.(the resigned Super) and has been. I would imagine that he has either has known about it and kept quite or never paid enough attention to catch it. Either way, I think this is evidence he does not have the best interest of sc. The interim Super J.F. and his wife both have worked for the system for years...I highly doubt he will address it.
