Some things are not to be made public to the person who had the ad published I hope you and the kingsport times have good lawyers. I have been a supervisor for a local company for several years and I know about a law called the federal privacy act you should have before you broke it or discrimination by not listing all county employees

Several school board office workers have gotten 30-40% raises during pay freezes over the past few years. D. Johnson being one of them...apparently it is appropriate to do that a year or two before people retire to boost their retirement income...such a joke...he's not the only one either, it's happened several times over the past 10 years...while our teachers get measly raises or no raise at all...such a shame, unfortunately these practices will continue under J. Ferguson as he is nothing but a Jim Scott pawn as is half of the school board.

All you have to do to see who is in the "club" is look at the salary discrepancies of teachers. Curiously, there are lots of women with extremely high salaries....hmmmmm. These women don't have a master's degree and/or many years of service. Also, DR at GC isn't even an asst. principal, but he seems to be making the bucks. So, just how is the pay scale for teachers decided? I had to ask the question, but I am afraid I already know the answer!

Amen. It is so disheartening to know that our children are left at the mercy of such a warped entity! Raises for teachers because of who they know or are connected to---but no books for the kids!! Moreover, the same issues are passed along to the children as employees of the system are most interested in seeing that the "connected" children are prepped for college as they receive the best instruction and teachers. Who cares about the rest?----if they're not part of the "in crowd" then they're on their own!

Was it right for the info to be printed? No. Do the have the right to? Yes. Under the sunshine law they do have the right anytime public funds are used. Not to long ago the Richmond Times printed the pay of every va state employee. The pay info can be requested at anytime by anyone. You have a right to know where your tax money is being used. However I still think that it was wrong to have printed the info.

Now we know the reason for the elite good ole boy system at the dept of education--and why it's such a close knit group of family clusters! Some of those salaries are outrageous. Sorry, but I don't think the service being performed is any where near the salary scale......I see why the kids don't have any books....

I just wish we would publish the names of all the people who have criminal records that are receiving "assistance". Those are my tax dollars too, and, court records are public records. I think we would all see where most of the tax revenue is going. At least most of the school system money is meant for the good of our future generations by providing them with an education. What good comes from all of the "assistance" given to felons?

I so agree with you! What burns my ass is that they get caught and the court system does nothing to them. I wished that VA would be like TN and the judges were elected to office. That might stop some of the repeat offenders.

Hasn't anyone noticed that many of the names are retired teachers. What are we doinf payinf DM and Js wife es $12000? How can a 3yrs teacher make the salary of a teacher with 30 yrs experience. The scale is supposed to be based on yrs of experience. And did that free insurance for spouses get settled? Has anything changed? And how's lake soccer working out? When's the first game? Fear that the state of our county will never be turned around. We are probably too far in debt and too far gone to turn it around.

How about the retired people that are paid money to retire? They are given a title with a big salary to do nothing. Doesn't one of the retired football coaches recieve money to be at the HS just to do nothing? Isn't DM in charge of "lake soccer"?

its public information to know what salary goes with a position not a persons name for that salary for example commonwealths attorney makes 113,000 but you cannot publish marcus mcclung makes 113,000 even though everyone knows he is the commonwealths attorney

I agree that we don't need to know the names of the employees, isn't there a privacy law. I agree that if the taxpayer is allowed to know where their money goes then why not a list of those getting assistance of any kind. Publish the names of people getting food stamps, Medicaid, free housing, heat, etc, while they drive around in fancier vehicles than our teachers, county employees, and the rest of us hard working tax paying citizens!!

The salary scale was done away with over 15 yrs ago. Those that JS liked got huge bonuses and raises while others had theirs locked in places. Some as long as 15 yrs. One ast principal actually hot a $10,000 raise in one year and a $3,000 the next at GCHS. Forty and their spouses got free insurance for over 20 yrs draining the funds snd forcing the county to drop their old insurance and have to take a cheaper insurance that pays for NOTHING. Example an emergency room visit under the old insurance only cost $100. Under the new insurance it cost $700 to $900. So things have gotten worse not better and if anyone complains its "Be lucky you have a job !"
