Griffith was approached by the Rep Party and asked to run against Boucher, the Rep party thought they had a great opportunity to beat him. Griffith didn't run because he wanted the job or out of concern for SWVA, he did it so the Republican party would have another vote..... He doesn't showcase because he doesn't care. SWVA screwed themselves on this one.....

He probably didn't show up because his benefactors in Bristol didn't call and tell him to. You can bet if the two brothers wanted him to make an appearance, he would have. Money talks, showcasing Southwest Virginia walks.

What we S.W. Virginian's need to do is find a trained chimp that can say the word NO and run him on the GOP ticket. He would fit right in with the rest of the Grand Old Party serving in Washington. Anything to defeat President Obama, even sink this country to get one job. The GOP makes me sick to my stomach. OBAMA-2012

WE have the best leader in the world.
His programs are going to save us all.
HIs ideas are so inspiring.
Have you heard him speak?
Those people who oppose him should just shut up.
Everyone should say yes to him.
Anyone who is standing in the way should be removed from office.

America 2012?

NO, Germany 1935.

Yes, we are just crazy. Or maybe we are all racists. Or maybe we are just narrow-minded. Isn't it nice for you to never have to logically defend Obama? Just call names. I guess we can expect another 4 months of this. Then when he is re-elected, we can all watch him implement his agenda. But then, when you have to pay higher taxes, or you lose your doctor because of his healthcare program, or your neighbor loses his coal-mining job because of Obama's move to cripple the industry, who are you going to turn to then? I guess you may just want us crazy people to help you. Or maybe you will still keep drinking the Kool-aid.

And exactly what is Mr. Romney's plan to fix these problems? Maybe I missed it. I haven't heard ONE plan of his to fix any of the above mentioned problems. All I hear from him is that he a good businessman. Is there a plausible solution to save this Nation with the current gridlock inside the beltway? Please, please tell us something! It's obvious that a black man with a muslim sounding name will never be allowed to succeed, even though he professes to be a Christian and seems to care about the wellbeing of the middle-class. It's unfortunate for him that he was elected in the totally wrong political climate. It would be like someone named Wilhelm Klaus Stutgaard running for president in post WW II America. I hate the idea of having to chose the better of two sub-standard candidates, but with such antagonistic leaders that we have in Congress, what else is there?

Since you opened this can of worms,,,,,,,,,,higher taxes? With the present deficit situation, shouldn't everyone,(including the very rich) pay a little more? Lose your Doctor? Count your blessings that you have a doctor. This bill is about the millions that have neither a doctor nor insurance to get a doctor. Cripple the coal industry? Not a chance of crippling an industry that is self-destructing itself. The coal industry has developed ways to produce more and more coal with fewer people and are mining a non-renewable resource. Someone has to police the mining and burning of coal or we'll all choke to death. Take a drive around Wise, Dickenson and Buchanan counties and look at the results of hands-off mining regulations. Oh, by the way, drive your old Cadillac because our roads are shot!

I don't need to defend Obama, you need to defend why you are opposed to health care for Americans, rich or poor. Or why corporate welfare is ok but helping people stay in their homes or feed their families is a terrible idea. I'm tired of people saying that millionaires are job creaters, its just not true the job creaters are the middle class who buy things so that the millionaires can have more. Mitt Romney did not create one hundred thousand jobs. Sure he started Staples but for every town that Staples went to local office supply stores closed. And if the public didn't buy computers and fax machines, office supplies and scool supplies Staples would be a big empty warehouse. And if you want to look for an enemy of coal how about the oil and gas industry who are spending millions of dollars fracking for gas so that utilities and manufactures can switch over to somthing cheaper. And natural gas is cheap, until everyone switches over and then its not. As for taxes, no one likes to pay more tax but you know what I like? Paved streets, storm drains, sidewalks, and traffic lights. I even like those little reflectors that they put on the highway so that you can tell which lane your in at night when its raining. I like that there are people trying to keep planes in the air and I love the library. I like that Arlington National Cemetery is clean and well cared for and there are guards over The Tomb of the Unknown Solider. And grateful that men and women are sacrificing their lives so that I can have freedom and liberty. These things are not free someone pays for them. Sure the deficit has gone up but I would much rather the deficit go up for feeding people and trying to help people throught the worse recession in three generations instead of going up because we borrowed money to create two wars.

Amen to the above! How about living in the most beautiful, historic state in the Union and driving up and down the Interstates and seeing the welcome centers closed, trash in the median and grass unmowed and our, cough, cough, so-called governor bragging about his budget surplus. On the shoulders of all of us Virginia Lovers and hard working state employees he has a surplus. How rediculous!

I'm not sure exactly how many times the repeal of the Affordable Care Act has come before Congress since he took office,(33 times total), but I guarantee he has cast a vote to repeal it every time it has come up. So, if you have no health care and are praying for the day to come when you can get some, remember Mr. Griffith, who like all congressmen have the very best of insurance, wants you to have NONE. This is one thing he has done.

I think that all congressional members should be required to create a number of jobs for their district and if they don't then their ability to vote on bills should be blocked so that they are basically censured. One month no job growth equals one month of no voting on bills before congress.

Not trying to be the devil's advocate here, but couldn't the same be said of any presidential election? I remember the very same retoric in 2004 when Bush and Cheney bought, I mean won, reelection.

Just glad you guys were not around at the founding of this country. No pioneering, freeedom-loving spirit about you. Just want government to solve everything. You show way too much trust in politicians for me. You seem to think that if just enough laws are passed, things will be alright. Well, did you ever think that the very people you are wanting to take care of things, are the very ones who got us in this mess? Obama, Romney, Boucher, and others won't even address the real problems, they just trot out the same old solutions (more laws, more taxes, more spending, etc.) Where has this gotten us? A War on Poverty that has gotten us more poor, higher taxes that still do not pay the bills, and more control over our lives that slowly take away more of our freedom is not the answer. But you guys just keep trust in Obama, he will certainly deliver you.

Ok, Professor,,,,,,,,,,you've told us how stupid we are for standing up for our beliefs,,,,,,,,now tell us how to solve the problems, please. So far, you've offered no answers, just Anti-Obama stabs.

I will gladly offer some suggestions:

(1) Energy- We need to use our natural resources and not be so dependent on foreign sources. We have more oil reserves that haven't even been touched. We have oil off the coast of Virginia that could totally transform our economy, if the federal government had not issued regulations that hinder anything. Look what is happening in North Dakota with the new oil industry there. One of the reasons our economy is not worse off is because of what is going on in North Dakota, not because of anything the federal government is doing. Fortunately, the oil reserves there are on private not public land. Add in the new clean coal technology and our state could be leading the nation in energy. Again, all being hindered.
(2) Tax policy- Keynesian economics are a failure. If you want to know where Obama's policies will lead, look at Europe today. They have been doing for 2-3 decades what Obama wants us to do now. Europe is turning away from these ideas (check out the new Swedish financial secretary) at a time that we are beginning them. If we continue to monetize our debt, we will end up with the same situation that the Weimar Republic in Germany had in the 1920s. We need government spending to get under control, and have less federal intrusion in our lives. You cannot spend your way to prosperity, that has always taken hard work. We need to become productive again, and that won't happen without changing our approach.

(3)- Foreign Policy- We cannot continue to betray our friends (Israel, Great Britain, etc.) and placate our enemies (the Arab Spring has turned to winter with the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and soon Syria). Obama has been a disaster with our dealings with other countries. He is encouraging the wrong people. We have got to deal with our own problems first, and not try to police the rest of the world. Allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weaponry will have long-term impacts for years down the road.

There are just a few ideas. It is hard to address complex issues in only a few words. But, one thing is for sure. Obama's answers are not in the best interest of this nation. For that matter, neither are Romney's. But until you Obama lovers stop your slavish attachment to him, we will not overcome the problems. We need a new political party becaue the issues are no longer Democrat vs. Republican. They are between those who look to larger government vs. those who believe in the freedom outlined in the Constitution and our Declaration. We have lost our way as a nation because we no longer have any true foundation.
