It could have been my kid--or yours--and there is no way to say how terribly sad and unjust this is. Worse is all of the justification of the police crime...Outrageous to think they might prevail.

No. It wouldn't have been my kid. I didn't raise idiots.

How can you call someone you've never met an idiot? Not only have you never met him but the information you have on him is from the worst night of his life. How can anyone be expected to act rationally when guns are pointed at them, they're scared and alone, they want their mom or their friends, and people are yelling at you that your gonna die....? Regardless of weather the shooting was by the book or not, it still shouldn't have happened. I only hope that those non-idiots you raised got some compassion from someone in their lives, casue you obviously couldn't have taught them about it.

I wonder about a book that is 7 steps to killing your suspect, First step , You must show up at the scene in order to be able to sharpen your shooting skills.

Second step , Make sure you remember that no matter what you are in fear for your life even if it's a nail file .

Step three ,four, five , six and seven remember step two.

of course he was an idiot. He brought a knife to a gun fight with the police. It is sad, a grim reality. We need police, and they need the ability to do their job. If you were holding a gun and someone came at you with a knife, what would you do? I have a number of police in my family, it's a tough job. Fact of the matter is, he should have obeyed their orders and dealt with it like a non-idiot. If he had it wouldn't have happened.

YOU BE THE COP IN THAT SITUATION

the responding officers when faced with deadly force may only have seconds to choose a deadly-force option that could impact the rest of their lives.

If the officers make a poor decision they could face administrative discipline/termination, criminal prosecu- tion, civil litigation, community hatred, and media chastisement.

if the officers hesitate in their use of reasonable-deadly-force because their agency has failed to provide them with adequate guidance and training, or because of their fear of litigation, discipline, etc.

the officers could lose their lives or could be the catalyst that results in others losing their lives.

Every time officers are forced to make deadly-force decisions they are putting their futures (life/death, financial, career, family, societal) on the line. The
