look at who the Mayor is!!!! Nothing bad to say abot Henry, just maybe its time for a change, a change to bring employment into the area, to bring businesses to the area, to work more with other communities so as all of McDowell county will thrive and not just 1 or 2 isolated areas.

Exactly what kind of business/employment opportunities do you have in mind? The only commodity that Gary has are the coal mines,The Bantam Market and the Tug River Health Clinic and from what I've heard for years is that in McDowell County it is not so much how well you can do a job for someone to hire you but it is who you know and who likes you well enough to even consider giving someone a job.

I do not really have all of the answers, probably none of them, but, when things are looked at we all know that there are solutions to the problems, look at philly which at one time depended on coal, but, now they have industry and a thriving economy, unlike us... One of the key things a mayor (or any elected official) should be concerned with is the prospering of their charge, and if they cannot (or will not) do such for their community then they may only be concerned with their own pockets... Business is not perfect, but its pretty much the same everywhere, if someone knows you then you will probably get the job before someone else, those things do not change no matter where you live.

knows all, obviously you don't know it all because if you did you would understand it better.I have had beef with the mayor along with many others have and whether you or anyone else admits it or not the fact still remains that Henry Paul, the Mayor of Gary, for the longest time even now has exercised very poor leadership time and time again.Just because he's old and he's got friends and other people that likes him or have some sympathy for him doesn't mean that he is a good mayor nor does it excuse him for his lack of and poor leadership as the mayor of the town. When I lived there during Paul being mayor there traffic control was terrible. motorists running through stop signs, passing on double line, pulling out into on-coming traffic and speeding way above the speed limit. That's how it was before I left and because I haven't been back in years I don't know how the traffic control is there whether it has improved or got worse or still the same as when I left.I got over my mad spell over Henry Paul and hopefully big blue will too.

However, big blue is right about one thing,in order for the town of Gary to improve the town of Gary needs new and better leadership. Gary will never be Welch or any other bigger town but with new leadership with a new and better direction the town of Gary can get back on its feet again.

First, I have never worked for Henery Paul, or the city of Gary in any aspect. I can only state the obvious about things, If 1 town or place can make the changes needed to help the people, then all can do the same. Yes there are different distractions for each area, but, that is when the elected officials need to really step up and make things happen. Oh, by the way, I'm not downgrading Henry, but, remember he was convicted in our court system (of the misappropreation of funds, or somesuch) for having his personal vehicle worked on and charging it to the City

Obviously you are like all of the rest of the Kool-Aid drinkers that I have ran into, you spit and spew and pick and choose what you want to start an argument with someone without actually pay attention to what is going on.So,just in case you have a very short attention span I will make this short and to the point...my only intentions was to be reasonable and share my experience but if that bothers you then go right a letter to Dear Abby about it.

someone seems to be very mad that the truth has been told, yes he is the mayor for a while longer, who really cares, things will continue as they have been, but maybe things will change as we could enter into a brave new world??? And I may not work for the city (as I could not live on the wages they pay) but I do work in Gary and know most of the people being talked about. I only try to point out history and what has been proven (either to work or not). I have not really seen a person yet that has run for office that I would vote for. Some great leaders, we as an area have are Gordon & Cliff, they go out of their way to try and put our County first and that should be the job of all elected officials. So please don't be mad because your hero is not perfect instead try and help him become such

I would love to come back and live 8 months out of the year. Have you ever though about investing in resorts. The mountains are beautiful in the summer and winter. A lot of your summer guest would be retired so we would need good heart doctors. Right now its my husband who is 100% military disabled but can still get around. I was born on #2 mining hill. Left in 1969 and have been back a few times to visit.

The only good heart doctor that I know who works in the Medical Arts Building in Princeton on Rte.20 is Dr. Piracha and there is another one who has an office there at Bluefield Regional Hospital,I don't know how to spell his last name but it sounds like Dr. (Hay Jar) and I have heard that either one are good choices for treatment and surgeries pertaining to the heart. There is really nothing wrong with Gary, just like all places you have to take the bad with the good and it would be best when you are out'n'about that you be on your guard as far as driving around and be defensive and be cautious because you never know when somebody might pull out in front of you or run through a stop sign on you, other than that Gary will always be Gary no matter which direction she takes. The mountains are beautiful even though I don't care for the trees that are cut down and left lying around on the ground but the mountains there in West Virginia are most beautiful in the fall of the year something you can't find in any other state quite like it or more beautiful but what I also miss the most is for over 5 years or more I haven't heard the sound of a coal train rumbling down the tracks and blowing the horn/whistle and I would very much love to hear it again just one more time.
