Obama offers faith groups new birth control rule

Feb 2, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WZVN-TV Fort Myers

WASHINGTON - Facing a wave of lawsuits over what government can tell religious groups to do, the Obama administration is proposing a compromise for faith-based nonprofits that object to covering birth control in their employee health plans.

Thatís a fair compromise. If those oppose to the contraception aspect of the HCR law canít agree to this then it will be obvious that this has more to do with politics than religious beliefs.

I agree with Patty, you can get an exemption if you can afford it. Congress got one, unions, certain federal employees. Anyone else care to make a 'special donation' and get an exemption? Only the working people will be left in obamacare, the very ones who can least afford it.

my biggest laugh in the past couple of years came with the assist of Catholic's here in New York State .
Suddenly because of Obama their faith was under attack. The mandate birth control coverage violated their faith....
When you point out that a near identical law is on the books here and has been for years. If it is a REAL threat, why are you just now noticing it?
You get back either a blank stare or a lame argument that this is 'unprecedented' violation of their freedom of religion.

The Catholic hierarchy has manufactured outrage where none had previously existed.
What if the President agrees to a 'compromise' and then the church reneges 'again' and then again tries to restart with this new compromise as the start point.

There should be NO compromise for fundietards and the vatican cult! I find it astounding that a cult that protects pedophiles and helped WW2 war criminals escape justice would oppose contraception. Even worse they are trying to impose their mythology on normal educated Americans!

Agreed. NO religion has the right to "have things their way" or to force others to abide by THEIR rules. And you're certainly right about a "cult" that protects child molesters. If you or I had committed a crime against a child, we'd have been incarcerated long ago. The pope ought to spend less time picking on homosexuals and more time on protecting little kids. How can anyone respect an organization like that? Their priorities are way out of order.

This is a good strategic move on his part. Now he can appear the reasonable man willing to compromise, and his opponents on the religious right can't complain.

Besides, he's in his second term now and has little to lose.

sorry but there is not compromise when it comes to keeping the commandments. The church may change their manmade rules. but never has God's rules/commandments been changed.

It seems to be a normal thing these days of people picking and choosing what they like from bible. This is not good. No compromise accepted.

Catholic Girl, I don't know about that. They did away with Limbo, St. Christopher, after being "sure" of these things.

Another question, if you don't mind. A priest once told me cavemen did not have "souls"...how could they possibly know that? If that's true, and I don't think it is, who was the first to get a soul?

If I knew the answer to your question, I'd be sitting in the big chair. sorry but I don't know. Isn't Limbo purgertory? Yeah, poor St. Christopher, people use to place his statue in their cars for protection. perhaps someone of authority had this in his car and had an accident. The church does change manmade laws to reflect modern times, never changed any of gospels, God's words, ect. That wasn't very nice of that priest to tell you that, they are human and make mistakes just as you and I do.
Perhaps he was thinking it this way. Caveman and evalution. since being a cross link between the 2 and animals not having souls and man having souls. Where's the cut off there? I don't know, just guessing here.
Hope you are enjoying this day the Lord has made. Stay away from the sugars little girl. Hope all going well for you and family.
Peace and Joy always,

And on Thirsday the bishops said that the compromise doesn't go far enough.Bishop Dolan claimed that hospitals an all the other NGO's that the church administers are minisrties.

If you are being fair you would have to re-write your post. Let me give you a sample revision to consider.

if religions want to play in the real world, they need to play by real world rules...

this guy you quoted should stay in his taxpayer subsidized church, where religion belongs and be thankful we don't take away his subsidy and watch his church fold in under a year...

Churches are tax free and make tons of money. For last few thousand years religion has ruled the world. Maybe time for religion and the church to lose there grip on our throats.

sick of it, I don't know and never claim to know. Catholic religion is a true religion as you very well know. If you read some of the old testament it states things in there like wasting of mans juice, mans juice falling on ground, etc. If we lived following the old testament today, relations between man and woman would only take place when trying to reproduce. Isn't this how todays JHW's live. They have relations only for reproduction.
But God did give us pleasures such as relations between man and woman.
As for to keep the money rolling in. The catholic church community does alot to feed the poor, clothe the homeless, visit the elderly, the sick, the imprisoned. No one is twisting anyones arm to give money. It's all done out of goodness of heart. God loves a joyful giver.
Where do you recevie your joy from?

Trust in God, simple solution.
