I'm with the Northeastern Indiana Racing Museum located inside the Kruse WWII and Automotive Museum along I-69 at exit 126. I'm looking for racing artifacts such as old photo's,programs,Helmets,Race Cars etc. from the days of the former Avilla Speedway or drag strip that you would want to loan or donate to our museum.
Half of our museum is dedicated to WWII and the other half is dedicated to the Automobile with Indy race cars, dragsters, custom hotrods,TV and Movie vehicles, Custom Horse Carriages, Old trucks, and old firetrucks. And then there's the Northeastern Indiana Racing Museum dedicated to preserving the history of local racing at Angola Motor Speedway,Avilla Speedway,Baer Field Speedway,South Anthony Speedway, Bryan Ohio Speedway,Plymouth Speedway, New Paris Speedway, and Pleasant Lake,IN. Speedway or any others that used to be in Northern Indiana. We have race cars from local racers on display, but are always looking for more restored race cars.
Our website is at www.kacmuseum.org

Hi im Chase Bice i see that you are looking for pictures and some historic things from the Avilla Speedway. My grandfather Howard Bice was the owner of the speedway. If you happen to get back on here if you could send me an email i could maybe find a few things around the house such as pictures for your automotive museum. you can email me at email@example.com.

I raced at Avilla while getting my Engineering Degree at Tristate College. I built and ran a B/EGD; a dragster with a 283 Chevy and a single 4-barrel.
I held 2-AHRA records that were run at Avilla; 1965 E.T. of 7.31secs, and in 1966 Top Speed of 107.149mph. The strip was 1/8 mile back then.
I remember often racing an alcohol fueled Corvette back then, I think was owned by J.Gleason who ran a speed shop in Angola.
I still have the Trophys for the record runs, but will need to look if any photos exist.

I just bought a 1965 GTO out of Indiana and on the side window is engraved Avilla Dragway Class Winner A.H.R.A. Sanctioned. Probably B or C stock and came with the tri power four speed and 390 gears.
I assume this class winner was accomplished in 1965 or soon after 1966-68 ? It was a dark blue.
This GTO needs a lot of attention to bring it back and I would love to have it's race history at Avilla.
Any help would be appreciated. Photos of this GTO restored the way it was with I hope some history at Avilla i would hope a local museum would like to ad to there collection.
I hope someone can help me here.

I had the great fortune to live across the street from Brian Eyer! He and his wife took me several times to the race track. What memories! I was 10 years old at the time.

I am looking for pictures of Bernie Rickman when he drag raced at Avilla in 1967 or 1968. He race a 1966 Chevy 11 Nova.
