Do we ever looove plucking that low-hanging fruit! And the republikooks of the North Carolina General Assembly has given us a juicy ripe plum worthy of our victory in _American Civil Liberties Union vs. Reno,_ wherein the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional most of the Communications Decency Act.
Of course, it does distract us from the 99% of our resources devoted to feminist causes, including standing by, watching, pretending to be concerned, and doing nothing while chapter 50 and cyberstalking witchhunts rage against innocent men across the state.
Thank you, all you crazies in the NC House and Senate. We've been needing the glittering publicity, another glorious victory, and a fat award of attorney fees, compliments of the bleating sheep taxpayers who elect you goons.
So you've tried to garotte the free speech of students, have you? And now you're thinking of criminalizing the use of cyberspace to criticize public officials too? LOL! This is getting hysterical.
See you in court, airheads.

Google this man. You can use the term "junius puke." That will get your eyes full too. Mink is an interesting character. First of all he has some huevos, for certain! Several years ago he photoshopped the photo of a prof he didn't like and posted it on the internet, on his blog site, I think. Anyway, go look. The parody is really funny, although "Junius Puke" didn't like it worth a damn, and had Tom Mink arrested under an unconstitutional Colorado law proscribing libel. It wasn't really libel, either, was it?
Anyway the police came after Mink and confiscated his equipment, and dragged him into court.
And the upshot of it is that the Colorado ACLU collected almost half a million dollars for Mink, but Mink ended up with only $25,000 of the loot.
When ACLU won the case against the CDA in the Supreme Court, they were my heroes. Now, I despise them. 99% of their pressure literature and litigation is FEMINIST. And I tell you what. If I were the plaintiff in Grist vs. Smith instead of the defendant, and the evil ditz, Marty Grist, were the defendant, they'd be in the middle of that case like rats on a slice of subway pizza.

Now let's contemplate the hypothetical case of a NC high school student uploading a photoshopped picture of the student's teacher onto his or her website, a la Tom Mink's unflattering photo of "Junius Puke."
The student has now violated the criminal law of NC and is subject to 60 days' imprisonment and fine of $1,000.
I'm not saying that it is right, or just, or correct to do that. We should teach our children to respect and be courteous to their teachers, even the duds. But making it into a crime? THE CRIMINAL SANCTION IS BOTH WRONG AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL BECAUSE IT VIOLATES THE FIRST AMENDMENT.
Back in the seventies I had this great Yale-trained Con Law prof named Arthur Bonfield. We stole him for the summer from the law school at the University of Iowa. Jeez, was that man ever a brain! He came in the classroom yelling and left yelling, Socratic Method, and I remember answering one day on the particulars of the Brandeis Brief, which I had just researched. I remember his wife always drove him to the law school on Cumberland Av. in Knoxville, and came back and retrieved him. I loved that class; it was pure poetry! Damn, was them ever the days! I wonder what he would think of this utterly goofy statute gagging kids here in NC?

We do not take criminal cases. But then sometimes we do. But then we tell everyone that we don't.
Anyone want to be a shill for us and violate that new law which gags students from writing satire or parody about their teachers on the net? There's no money or advantage in it, you may go to prison, and we will treat you like shit.
Oh, wait, we don't take criminal cases.
Ah, hell, what do WE know?
