Inviting an Ex to a sweet 16 Party

Ok, I need some advice. My step-daughter has asked ME to throw her a sweet 16 party, rather than her mother. She believes I will do a better job, etc. While I am flattered, I did tell her to make sure it was ok with her mother because I don't want to step on her toes. This is a mom thing after all. She asked her mother and she said that was fine on one stipulation - that she be allowed to come too. Now, I do not like the EX. I frankly can't stand her. She has not made it past our front door mat in 5 years. I do not want her in my home and I do not want to feel uncomfortable in my own home, especially when I am hosting a party. My husband says I am being petty and that I should take this opportunity to rub my skills in his EX wife's face, etc. I just don't want the drama. I frankly think SHE should be throwing her own daughter a party herself. Help!

skeetcat34, I know this is an old post, but this might help someone else out. Be flattered that your step daughter wants you involved. I have a step daughter that is extremely loyal to her mother. Her mother has a history of cheating on everyone and even tried to fool my husband into thinking that her second baby was his. It was proven in court that the son they had during that marriage is NOT his. She cheated. Anyways, my step daughter knows and regardless of this, and despite of my step daughters strong moral stance, she defends and stand by her dishonest mother.
Be grateful that although she is not a blood relative, she trusts you enough to plan out her party. Do the best you can, don't do it to show up her mother, but do it to make your wonderful step daughter happy. This memory will last a lifetime. Invite the mother, but don't lose focus on her. Pretend you don't see the mom on that day, other than saying hello. Do not turn this event into a bio mom vs step mom battle.
