Must have missed this part. Perhaps if you had only focused on your school work..."it was revived last year as part of a budget deal with House Republicans."<quoted text>
Really now? Who was it that fought against the school voucher system and even took it to court? It wasn't the Republicans. Still don't know? I'll give you a hint: they have a lot of friends in the teachers unions.
What's wrong with children getting a job and earning some extra money? We did it when I was a kid. We had paper routes and work-study programs where children could work at the schools and various other places to earn a paycheck. Nothing wrong with that. Of course, we didn't have liberals back then. Liberals don't want to see poor kids learn how to make money, they want to see poor kids learn how to rob and steal and eventually end up in prison or getting gunned down by the police. That's the liberal solution.
Obama budget would end DC school vouchers
February 14, 2012
WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama's budget proposal includes no new funding for a private school voucher program for District of Columbia students.
The nation's capital is the only jurisdiction where federal tax dollars are used to subsidize private-school tuition. Needy students can receive up to $12,000 a year to attend private schools of their choice.
At the Obama administration's urging, Congress agreed in 2009 to phase out the program. But it was revived last year as part of a budget deal with House Republicans.
House Speaker John Boehner says in a statement that the voucher program "has an excellent track record of success." He says he'll stand alongside advocates who speak out about the need to reinstate it.
Students already participating in the program would be allowed to continue under the proposal.
