By the way, My name is not Ja'Queeta, Quiana, or Shaneeka , my brothers names are not Jayquan ,Jamel,or Damonte. My name is Dorothy, my brothers are Elbert and Robert. No one in my family has one of these made up ghetto stereotypical names.that blacks are so commonly given at birth by mothers who are clearly not thinking about how names such as these can brand their child as an undesirable in the future.
Well, hopefully we'll get more people into the city like you, black, white, Hispanic, whatever. I also see it 'toning down' a bit but there's still that feeling when you see a gang of blacks walking down the street that they're up to something.

I live around South Blvd where that one shooting took place. I heard the gunshot. There was a huge gang of blacks there when that happened. These things just never happened in my day and I won't accept it as 'being the new normal'! This 'new normal' has been going on for over 20 years so, you have to see why we feel this way.

Of course I understand, I'm moving from warrensville heights. Ive only been here a year and I hate it! The stores around here have been robbed so many times they close before dark, alot of people in my neighborhood houses got broken into, I dont even allow my two little boys to go outside to play because im afraid of what could happen to them. I was hoping that maple heights was a little better than warrensville, but I guess not. All I can say is, I pray that things get better, I dont want to move again after this, I promised my boys that this was the last time, I refuse to be pushed out again because of some adolescent street thugs. Im a tough cookie and if there is some type of community safety club, street club, neighborhood watch club, or whatever, let me know where I can sign up. There is no reason why respectable people should have to deal with this type of crap in their communities, especially when it has the potential to be a great place to live, raise a family ,retire, whatever. Lots of suburbs are broken shadows of what they once were, is there hope of any recovery for at least this one? Certainly hope so.

Maple Hts is a few steps better than Warrensville, I would think. I know I wouldn't want to have to move to Warrensville. I do think that crime in Maple Hts has slowed down, like xxxrayted mentioned. The section 8ers' are being evicted and taking their thug friends from other cities with them. To tell you the truth, I just bought another house in Maple because Maple was the best deal on a house I could get. So, I'm stuck here for a while.

You sound like a nice woman and I hope your new home here is a better change for you and your kids.

I've said it many times here, you have to be proactive when it comes to crime.

I have a dozen motion detector lights on my places. I'm a landlord, so I have some area to cover. But I've never had a problem with kids or thieves because of those detectors. They look for dark areas to cause trouble. When I get up and go to a different room, I always take a peek outside the windows to see what's going on. Same thing happens when I hear a noise even if it's some kid screaming and it sounds like they're goofing off.

As I mentioned, I have a police scanner tuned into all the Maple Heights police frequencies. When there is trouble within a mile of my house, I turn down the TV and look outside. At times, police get a description of a car they're looking for or perhaps a person of interest. Of course by the time the cops get to the scene, the problem makers are gone. Imagine if every Maple resident did what I did when a crime is committed. One day or night, I just might be able to see a getaway car or even the suspect and aid police as to where he is at or what direction they are headed. A descent police scanner is around a hundred bucks or so. If anything, it's great entertainment and keeps you filled in as to what is going on in our community that the news doesn't cover.

I sleep with a loaded .357 in the headboard of my bed. I obtained a CCW and take my gun with me most times I leave the house. For that I need a smaller gun, so I take my 9 mm with me. I use hollow point bullets in all my guns because I plan on killing what I hit.

When I go to Southgate or anyplace like that, I always park away from the door because there are more empty parking spaces. I learned years ago that criminals don't like open spaces because they are easier to spot and if there is trouble, you have a better chance at getting a description of the criminal with the store camera.

I have motion detector lights and sensors in my yard too. There's been a few times when the little cockroaches came prowling around my yard and as soon as those lights went off, they scattered like when you kick an old, wet, rotting piece of plywood over with roaches under it.

My next door neighbors have me highly trained to jump up and look out windows when I hear them slam their side door or when they pull in their driveway. Boy, they SURE hate white people. But I'm always looking out the windows like you do, xxx. And now across the street from me, looks like some tail end section 8ers' might have moved into a house. They must be selling something from their house too because cars constantly pull into their drive, one person will get out of the car, the person goes right into the house and is in the house for no longer than a minute, then comes out and leaves. Maybe 10 cars per day pull in and out. Gee.....I wonder what they're selling over there?

I would call the narcotics unit and tell them of the problem. I had that going on here with some renters I had years ago. I approached them and told them I wasn't born yesterday, and if the activity didn't stop, I'll be the ones calling police about my own place. They stopped, and took their little business up the street to a parking lot. I got rid of them anyway.
