This is really scarey! There was a home football game and there were people every where. It could have been so much worse. I hope the residents of Garfield Heights wake up and take their wonderful city back from the thugs!!!

I am so glad i moved from Garfield Heights three weeks ago. That city has turned to trash. I happened to be in Garfield last night when this happened, i didnt see it happen, but i saw all the cops the poor man laying on the ground, and all the kids watching from across the street. These thugs have done nothing but made Garfield there home and plan on destroying it like they did cleveland and every other city. The residence need to take there city back from these hoodlums.

I would be glad to. For one, stay in contact with your Council person and let him or her know of your concerns. Currently, we have an administration that is more interested in wasting our tax dollars on public pools, water parks, new schools, and lawns with grass slightly over 8 inches high. That's the problem. For whatever reason, they have this belief that if the place looks too good, it will drive away the lowlifes. But as we all know, that is far from reality.

You can do several things: The very first is to punch in the non-emergency police phone numbers of Garfield, Maple, and perhaps Bedford (if you go there) in your cell phone. Secondly, install as many motion detector lights on the outside of your property as possible. I currently have ten on my property now, and have never experienced any problems at night. You can also be seek training for a CCW license so you can carry a gun with you at all times (except in places that prohibit it). And if you have the cash, install a security camera on your home, or in several places at your home. Purchase a police scanner. When action is happening in your neighborhood, you can keep an eye out for the people the police are looking for. They may be hiding behind your garage. At the very least, it's the cheapest entertainment money can buy.

With the exception of security cameras, the items I listed are relatively inexpensive. Non-emergency phone numbers are free. A police scanner is about $100.00 depending on what you purchase. Motion detector lights are around $30.00 a piece. A CCW class is about $150.00 or so, and the license is good for five years.

That's what you can do. Now imagine what Maple Heights would be like if every law biding citizen did these things.

If girls don't like it, boys don't do it.

Don't be afraid of guns, you hope you will never have to use it, but if you have it when you need it, you can save your own life. The most important thing is paying attention, like they say on the football field, have your head on a swivel.

If you ever notice, inner city types always look around. They look into your car, they will look at you driving past, they know from a young age to watch everything. People from the suburbs walk around oblivious to what is going on around them. Arming some of these people does no good if they aren't paying attention.

I see these dingbats shuffling through their purse for keys in a dark parking lot, you take your keys out in the store or keep them in your hands. The list goes on and on.

Also know, that just because some of your neighbors are bad apples, doesn't mean they all are. They don't want their stuff broken in or stolen anymore than you. Communicate with the good ones and watch out for each other.

Good advice Mapleman. I love that "have your head on swivel." Lol. The other poster had some good tips too.

Its a shame the employee got shot, but on the whole, a good thing that more and more of the 'victims' are standing up for themselves. This makes it harder for the perps in the long run, knowing that resistance is coming.

The truth of this robbery is, one 'african American' robbed the Pizza Hut with a gun. As he was robbing it, the pizza delivery man was coming into the building, not knowing there was a robbery going on. The delivery man ran back outside and hid by his car, not knowing that a second 'african American' who was the accomplice of the 'african American' that was inside, was parked right next to his car. When the first 'african American' came running out of the store, he saw the delivery man hiding by his car and shot him in the leg. For what reason, I don't know. Maybe it was just because these 'african American's' are just violent. Maybe because their drug addicted 'daddies' book as soon as he plants his defective seeds into a 300 pounder and the mother doesn't want much to do with the defect when it's born so, as soon as it sprouts legs and can walk, she hands it a gun and tells it to go fend for itself.

You all probably don't think it's right for me to post this way but hey, the truth is right out there in the open. No one's 'allowed' to say things like this but like I said, the truth is the truth. There's just a lot of defective ones coming in from Cleveland through section 8 and all they know how to do is squirt those slugs out like Pez candy so they can over populate the country. It'll be interesting to see what this country will be like when everyone's a thug and they're all shooting each other! lol!

No problem. But let me assure you that in a situation where you do have to use a gun, you are no less nervous than the trained police officer. I don't know if you remember a few years ago, there was dash cam video of police trying to apprehend a suspect. The suspect was on the drivers side of the car, and started shooting at the state trooper on the passenger side of the car. The suspect got off several rounds as did the state trooper, but neither got hit. They were less than ten feet from each other.

Trust me when I tell you that a police scanner is great entertainment, and lets you know what's going on that you'll never see in the paper or news. Plus it makes you proactive in fighting crime. Imagine this: an armed robbery takes place on Libby road, and they took off in a blue mini van. Abut 150 residents in that area have a police scanner, and stare out their window looking for the direction this van went. Hell, it may even be somebody who lives on your street. But if you do see this vehicle, you can aid police by giving them this information.

What I've noticed is that in many robberies, the suspects take off on foot. It's likely that they stay or live in the nearby area. But unless you have a scanner, you have no idea that these robbers/ murderers are cutting through your backyard.... or perhaps your neighbors. They may be getting into a parked getaway car right in front of your house.

You can't turn this city into Moreland Hills or Westlake. But what you can do is contribute in sending a message to lowlifes that we are ready for them. Strength in numbers. The more people that take my advice, the less crime there will be in our city.

Where was the little "No Gun" sign on the door? Pizza Hut should be ashamed of themselves for inviting this kind of senseless gun tragedy and putting their employees' lives at risk. Pizza Hut should have posted the signs to keep us all safe. Even though the hero type kid that got shot was asking for it, signs would have prevented this from the start.

This just another unfortunate case of an impoverished 17 year old trying to pay the rent and feed his family. What's so wrong with this? We as a society have let these people down. Mostly though, George Bush did it. It's our reponsibility to make ammends.

Why not just give him what he so desperatly needs to feed his child and be done with it? I wouldn't mind paying another $5.00 or so for a pizza to save just one innocent child's life in a pizza robbery. Better yet, just put a box of cash outside for those in need so they don't have to shoot up the place. Do it for the kids of the kids.

You notice that this didn't happen in Cleveland where there are strict gun control laws and swift justice for those foolish enough to use a gun to get whatÂ’s rightfully theirs anyways.

Like the police say, don't fight back, give them what they deserve, and stay alive. They are just in it for the money and won't harm anyone.

Now, if you want a really good pizza, check out the place at 55th. and Scovill. It's safer there too because Mayor Jackson cares.

I thought the redlight cameras were supposed to free up police to stop violent crimes like this? I bet that villan would be pretty angry if he got a redlight ticket and had to pay $100 for a ticket... He might need to rob a Taco Bell next!

That's the funny thing: he probably crashed quite a few lights and will be sent the ticket. He will pay it with some of the money he stole, and the city will cash his check and think nothing about it. LOL!!!!
