It's always the people who don't pay the taxes and fines who complain about those of us who do. I bet he doesn't even drive a car.

All who want the cameras band are IDIOTS. What Garfield Hts needs is more revenue to hire more cops to keep the trash that is ruining our streets off of our streets. I would love to see more cops hired in GH so I can feel safe around this city that is just falling apart. We need cops patroling the school areas, shopping centers, parking lots and neighborhood streets more than we need them doing radar on Turney road. Make this a city with ZERO tolerence for ALL who do not follow the laws so all the scum will say GH is not the place to go to run my gang, drug business, my juveniel deliquent kids and my non tax paying multi family all on welfare loser selfs. Get real people or this will be East cleveland soon.

You must have missed my earlier post Sherrie. So I'll reiterate:

I frequently listen to my police scanner here in Maple Heights. It's not all that infrequent when officers pull somebody over for a simple traffic violation, that they find the person has a suspended license, a warrant, intoxicated, stolen vehicle, or drugs and weapons in the car. At times, it has even led to high speed police chases here.

If these cameras are allowed to do the work officers once did, then those type of people will be transparent in your community. Somebody who may be wanted on murder charges may crash a light, or go a little too fast, but instead of an officer spotting and stopping that car, the criminal will only get a ticket in the mail. Without a doubt, this money grab will end up costing Garfield in more ways than one.

Garfield Heights has about 1/3 more full time officers than Maple, so consider yourself lucky. The problem isn't getting more money. The problem is spending less on worthless projects such as they've done here in Maple Heights. We don't even have a police dog here. When we need one, we have to call other cities to see if we can borrow theirs. By the time they find a dog and get him out here, the criminal is already back on East 55th and Woodland and the dog is useless. However, these past two years, our city wasted 1.3 million dollars on a public swimming pools, and countless millions on new school buildings.

Your problem is the same as ours. It's not that the city doesn't have enough money, it's that the city wastes our money that we give them.

Tell you cops to stop sitting along Broadway at the speed traps and to police your city. Obviously crime must not be that much a problem since your cops are always sitting around.

Why don't you take some responsibility and arm yourself. Aren't you an adult? You can't protect yourself? That's sad.

Sherrie you are 100% correct....but the bozos that want to carry their concealed weapons and are afraid the government is taking their rights away run the thread on this subject (and get this...some are not from Garfield they are from Maple). Breaking the law is not OK no matter how you are caught. It is called being responsible and accountable for your actions. Just like that bozo Wagner who started this...WHEN ASKED...HE HAS NO ANSWER ON HOW TO MAKE MONEY FOR THE CITY but he constantly stirs up the pot. The people of Garfield better realize that the cameras need to stay ....for safety...for money and to keep the idiots out of Garfield..you know the ones who claim they are not coming into Garfield to visit the businesses anymore because of the cameras...morons...what business in Garfield draws outsiders? Get into reality people.

Again Mr. Know it all...run for office in Maple and see where you dumb ideas get you....better yet keep your dumb opinions to yourself...one better....GET A LIFE and quit living off cb's and police scanners...unbelievable you think you have all the answers....didn't your thread once say you grew up in one neighborhood YET CHOSE TO MOVE TO MAPLE? and you have any credibility? Ok I don't think they should stop doing radar on the streets or pulling over people who break the traffic laws in case they pull that person over who is wanted for murder rape kidnapping DUS or whatever the crime, but they dont have enough time to sit and do it all day long. This is about bringing money into GH so we can continue to OPERATE and hopefully make some improvements with what is left, around this city. Me protect myself ABSOLUTELY Im not afraid to take a stand for my rights. ARM myself, just what GH needs more people ready to blow your head off for driving the speed limit down Turney Rd because they choose to break the law and fly down Turney at 37+++++++MPH!!!! Violence and guns are not the answer people, maybe in your hood but I don't want it here.

It's already there Sherrie. It's a state law--not a local one. In fact, when I go to shop or visit in Garfield Heights, I always take my gun with me.

The problem is if you allow these politicians to get away with using cameras to make up for their irresponsible spending, then what you are doing is giving them permission to spend even more. You only solve your problem temporarily. It will be back. And when that happens, they will look for new ways to generate revenue. Their next step would be to decrease the limit before they hand out speeding tickets--increase the cost of fines, or both. I suspect this because there is story after story of this exact thing happening in other cities that use these cameras.

Right now, Garfield is being generous by giving speeders 10 mph. But if you keep the cameras, look for it to drop to 8, then 7, then 5, and so on. Next thing you know, you will be talking to a passenger in your car, and get a speeding ticket in the mail because you accidently went 28 in a 25.

Currently, your city has quotas for police to meet. They have to hand in so many tickets every month; many police departments do this. But if the city is cashing in on these cameras, look for that quota system to drop.

If you don't want to arm yourself and protect your family you deserve whatever bad happens to you. Just because you want to be helpless and defenseless doesn't mean we all want to be that way. You are probably the type of woman that tells her husband he can't have no guns in the house and he is probably the type of metrosexual that would listen.

Take responsibility for your own life. If somebody breaks in and beats and rapes you tomorrow you might change your mind. You do know police have to be called THEN respond, by that time you might be dead. Pathetic way to live.

They came in when you stated anybody who wanted traffic cameras "band"(nice spelling) was an idiot. That your city needed revenue to hire more cops because you can't protect yourself. That's how guns got drawn into this.

Someone that keeps a gun and thinks gun owners are going to blow people's heads off over traffic incidents. Wow. Seriously, what's wrong with you? Is that projection from you yourself not being able to contain your emotions. LOL

When we refer to gun owners we are talking about law abiding citizens who took classes and are trained. What's wrong with having more of them? We need to be responsible for our own protection, let the police do what they have always done, show up after an incident has happened, only this time it will be the citizen that has harmed the criminal.

Garfield Heights has more than enough police. I see them constantly sitting by speed traps. If you feel unsafe you should tell them to get to work. Myself, I think our safety is in our hands.

Okay, can you help solve an arguement. We received our ballots in the mail and the wording of the traffice cam and the garbage issues has become an issue it itself! If we vote yes, does it ban the cameras and the garbage collection fees? Or do we vote no to ban the cameras and fees?

Come on people. I am counting on you to get it together so I can go back to Giant Eagle and Dave's.

Vote "yes" on Issue 56 if you want to ban traffic cameras from the city. Vote no if you want to keep grabbing your ankles.

If they were really concerned about safety, wouldn't it be better to change the timing between the light turning from yellow to red? Just make the yellow longer. People who are careful drivers would then have a better chance of making the right split second decision at a light. After all the whole issue should be safety, not how to rip people off big time. For example going 41 in a 35 zone or 66 in a 60 zone is not creating a danger to others unless you are driving reckless(weaving, not using turn signal, driving conditions are bad). I just saw a red light camera flash at 2 people today going through an intersection. The speed limit was 35 and the light turned yellow then red just as they were about under the light. How unfair. These people were not trying to fly through the light after it turned red. What are you supposed to do slam on your brakes and skid to the middle of the intersection. For all of the idiots who say they are not concerned about the cameras because they obey the laws, either you never drive or you are liars. For the speed cameras, how can you possibly drive with your eyes glued to the speedometer. That is the ONLY WAY a human being could never go over the speed limit. Like I said above, the traffic laws were originally established for safety and I am against the reckless drivers who purposely drive at excessive speeds or recklessly but you can't put computers against human error. Depending on the conditions and surrounds, if you glance at your speedometer and notice that you are going slightly over the limit, more than likely you are not a hazard to anyone. Let's face it, as human beings we have ALL had times when we noticed we were going slightly over the limit or made a split second decision at a yellow light, only now we are being punished and robbed big time for it. The US is getting to be a horrible place to live. Just think, you go on a vacation to unfamiliar places that have these traffic cameras and you arrive back home to find traffic tickets in your mailbox. But of course America has become a place were everyone including the Government just find ways to rip people off.

It's worse when you drive a truck for a living like I do. Just last week, I was going through an intersection when the clown in front of me decided he was going to make a left hand turn at the last second. The light turned red, and he proceeded to make his turn after the oncoming traffic stopped. By the time I shifted through five gears and got the trailer from under the light, it was already red for eight seconds.

There was a cop there, but he realized the situation I was in, and didn't give it a second thought. But if there was a red light camera there, my employer would have been mailed a ticket even though he wasn't driving the truck. There is nothing I could have done in that situation. The idiot in front of me didn't use his turn signal until just before he hit the brakes.
