Don't do it it's a joke. Half the students grades will go down.

I agree It is a mess at the Cross County School district! They play it up and only let students who will play it up talk to others. You are not allowed to voice your real opinion when someone comes to look it over and ask questions. Other schools should call the students and parents around here...

Yes. Please call me. Cross County is a highly innovative school and the students that attend there have great opportunities. It is definitely more challenging than regurgitating information, but it's more important to be able to think for yourself. Good job, Cross County. Way to step out there and lead 21st Century learners. Students would rather take more control of their own learning. They're tired of being spoon fed.

Tired of misinformation please quit with all your comments. You sound like someone who may have been told as a few of the kids were told to say all nice things or get ISS for a day! My child chose to miss on that day because of the feeling that the students could not voice their real opinions about things going on. And NO students NEVER want to be spoon fed but it is a big JOKE for them to be responsible for their own learning! If a student were supposed to be that responsible then we would not have school and we would not need teachers. As for opportunities they first have to have grades that will give them the opportunities. Check your local benchmark scores your wonderful Cross County school district is on the bottom with Earle. Yeah Good job is exactly what I would say. NOT! So if you are tired of the misinformation then go get the real stuff from some other kid beside your own.

it is a great idea, but it is not the same as the other High Schools because it does not have band, choir, and spots and that is stupid because if you want one of those classes you will have to go to the other High Schools by getting in another buss. It also does not have a locker so were are you going to put your stuff. The good thing is that you get a computer to do your work at home.

CCHS received the apple award. From Apple for its advancements in student education. Only school in Arkansas to receive that honor. And one of 103 schools in the entire nation.

I am so confused at this school district. I do not understand how two classes can go on at one time, how students can determine the rules for a class and then to KNOW students who go from this classroom to college and do not know how to do the work! I understand that they do not have books, that there is a real breakdown in teacher, student. parent relationship...but are the students really learning? I would like to know why Dr. McClure is resigning, taking a part-time position if this school is so great. ALso, what is his salary going to be for part-time work. Is there any truth to the rumor: the school is/will be in distress? Please enlighten me.

Again with the misinformation? Cross County School District has band, choir and sports. Bus to what other high schools?

Tired of Misinformation please address post #8. You seem tobe knowledgable of this school and I have followed the news and can not begin to grasp students making the classroom rules and controlling the learning and then being ready for the competition in college.

The students are on a block schedule, which means Monday, and Thursday they see one teacher (geometry for example) and Tuesday and Friday they see the other teacher (chemistry) for split class. Then on Wednedsay they see all of their teachers just shorter class periods. This is how they are getting the 2 credits for the classes. They start late on Wednesday due to a meeting they call cluster. In this meeting the teachers meet and plan out the lesson plans and projects for the students so they can combine the 2 classes. The students and parents can get on ECHO (grading system) and check grades and any updates on upcoming projects, see any missing work and what the students submitted. They also have some books dowloaded on the laptops. But of course most students wont tell the parents this. Dr. McClure is still the superentendant until June 30, 2013 and on July 1, 2013 Carolyn Wilson will be taking over in his position. He is stepping down due to him and his wife buying a business and he cant do both. His salary will remain the same until June 30 and then it will drop to part time pay and he will be on a 90 day contract (contract days is what I have been told may be more or less). He will still be helping out with the finances and grants just like before. Carlolyn Wilson's pay will increase (not sure how much) due to her changing postions. The school is not in distress of money. They have a surplus of funds now, but if the adminisrtation doesnt continue to look for grants and other funding it could cause problems.

Thank you for post # 12..now, why will these split classes not result in full credits if a child chooses to transfer to another school? I still do not understand the concept of NO textbooks, children making class rules, teachers who are non-traditional, a clinic on school propert, afterschool day care...sounds a little socialistic. However, what kid would not like control and what parent would not like afterschool care for their children? I would like to see a comparison of test results with comparable social/economical schools. Very concerned about the future of these students. Also find it strange that a man who was named/honored recently in education would leave this field for another. WIll his children continue in this school system or go to another? That will tell most what HE really thinks of this HIGH TECH school.

Re: Post 12...ECHO or any program is great for parents and students..IF..the teachers do the posting on a daily/weekly basis. As in any school, there are those who do NOT do so. Sometimes, parents have to be AGERESSIVE and persue the asignemtns and grades!
