It's it a law that you have to have insurance?? You HAVE to have home owners insurance (If you have a morgage, which I'm sure this place does)--doesn't business's have to have it also?

Sorry for the loss of the business. Now you know everyone is going to start questioning the legal status of them and their workers since they spoke Spanish. The last health inspection was completed on December 01, 2008 and their first recorded was December 2007. They had many violations that repeated during each inspection from handwashing to not storing food properly to prevent contamination. I hope if they open another place it is run better and more complient with health codes and business practices (insured). I noticed the article did not mention how many employees were displaced from work now, the owners would have paid unemployement insurance for all the (legal) workers. I wonder how many they showed working for them? Sorry just had to ask that, I know it is going to cause a uproar...

"Marcelino Angeles is hopeful about reopening the restaurant, despite the problems, and all six of his employees were at the property to help clean up."

Hopefully this clarifies your question Germany Township Resident.

The State of PA has an online database with Restaurant Inspection reports.

I posted this but it was removed for some reason so I am sorry if this ends up on the board twice.

Germany Township Resident - Where did your informatin regarding the health violations come from? Those are some damaging accusations and I wondered where you got this information.

I believe Marcelino Angeles was renting the building and did not own it. I believe the owners are Henry and Donna Taylor. They should have had insurance in it. The whole family are legal immigrants, but I don't know if the employees are.

If they were renters the do not need to carry insurnace on the building. Also, if they owned their equipment they are not legally authorized to carry fire insurance. If they were paying on the the equipment or even if the equipment was paid for but was being used as collateral for other loans, then insurance is required.

If I read the article correctly, it stated that there was no smoke detector. Isn't it a law that public places like this have smoke detectors (and possibly even sprinkler systems) installed and in working condition? I believe they just closed a hotel down recently because of this issue.

I think there's such a thing called Renters Insurance....I believe they did need to have it as well as the owners.

Thanks MD Dude... some people are just under informed and don't have a clue where to look for theses things. Some places in PA have their own Health inspections and won't show up on the State's site such as the case for Hanover. As for them renting the property, most rental/lease agreements have a clause that mandates the tenant purchase and maintain insurance policy (renters/tenant).
Frox I think you need to say sorry to me for you tone to me... just kidding, enjoy your day and hope everything works out for them.

some A S S HOLE took my last post off, it said......obama will give them all they need to rebuild using our tax money and they wont have to repay.......and also it must have bothered some mexican or mexican lover that i said that mexicans do get more benefits (legal or not) than our war veterans. God i hate mexicans expecially when i go to walmart. I can always tell when the mexicans get their government paychecks. when walmart is full til midnight. maybe they should take everyones income tax away and just tax purchases at walmart at 20%, then all the mexicans will go back to mexico. i can go without apples, can u?

Maybe YOU are the A S S HOLE!What makes you think that "Mexicans" get government checks? Why dont you drive past an orchard and you will see the hard work they do all day-7days a week.I bet your fat ass wouldnt do it.And its not only apples that they pick-this country would not survive without the immigrants working on farms and orchards. And I dont know know where you get your information but you very misinformed.

IT is eveyones business and public records! everyone should be informed about where they eat and feel safe and secure that the people working inside the building understand and comply with the local health codes! The public should also feel secure that the people working there also pay their fair share in taxes (some illegals are paid under the table so no taxes paid) so the rest of us have to pay more to make up the difference. Maybe if EVERY EMPLOYER FOLLOWED THE LAWS and codes, then maybe the illegal imigration problem would settle down. BUT when places skirt the rules and take short cuts (like on health codes) then there may be reason to think they are taking short cuts other places such as pay role reporting, income reporting etc! So as a tax payer, yes it is our buisiness to know what is going on! Good Luck and enjoy!
