Thats terrible. I watch my nieces during the day and that school is 3 blocks away. That person driving the SUV obviously was not obeying the speed limits in the school parking lot from the sound of it. Or not paying attention. He must have got hit pretty hard. Poor thing. I'm praying for the boy and his family and that driver.

What is it today? Young woman (or boyfriend) beats her child to death, someone runs over a child on school property, a pregnant girlfriend stabs her boyfriend's wife, relatives rob relatives...

We lost a two year old to a long cancer battle in Sedalia this week...

I can't imagine hurting my own, or not watching out for others on school property...

It's a very sad day today.

Gardner lost a high school student in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. Granted, that was his fault. Now this. I think the local law enforcement needs to step up. Not only in Gardner, but all of Johnson County and all of the Metro.

what is it these days??? innocent kids getting hurt waaayyyy to often. Parents or guardians: WATCH and TAKE CARE of your kids. Protect them from harms way and guide them the right way. With the 2 year old little girl that was abused and now this?? Children are gifts from God!! Cherish these gifts; don't hurt them.

Unfortunately "stepping up" law enforcement can't prevent accidents, unless than can be watching every person, every minute of the day and even with someone standing right there, accidents happen. Maybe someone should have slowed down, or the child should have paid more attention, but unless someone was being grossly negligent (which I don't know the details) this could happen to anyone of us or our kids. I feel terrible for the family. I can't imagine this happening to my child. I would also hate to be the person driving the SUV. Whether it is his/her fault or not, I am sure this will haunt them forever. I know it would me. I will be driving home slower tonight and paying more attention than usual. I will kiss and hug my daughter when I get home and will feel thankful for her health and well being. My thoughts are with you and I hope he is ok.

I almost got hit on the plaza by a woman who was texting. However, I have also had people run in front of my car from behind another vehicle where I could not see them and I also did this as a child and got in alot of trouble at school. This sounds like an unfortunate accident and I am sure the person driving was also tramatized, so I pray for them and especially for the child and their family.

Too many people like to speed through school zones like it's a joke. I've had them flip me off for going the speed limit when the lights are flashing to go only 25 MPH. It's marked that speed for a reason. I just pray this child will be okay. I wonder if the person was talking on their cell, stirring their Starbucks latte, or texting. Who knows, maybe all three. Honestly. Drive or get off the road, but let's be careful around pedestrians, especially in a school zone.

FYI: This was my sister there is no reason to point fingers. She was paying attenetion to the road, was not speeding and she has 3 kids of her own. She is devastated and I do not know what to do to help her cope with this situation. The little boys family is in our prayers and just know this truly was an accident. This is the worst day ever. Please keep an open mind and have compassion for all parties involved.

Angie, if you let the drivers self enforce, this is what happens. A couple of years ago, there was a serious accident at the same spot. The county and city investigated and concluded that the area was "safe".

When I was younger, the neighborhoods policed the drivers. If someone was speeding, the dads were not afraid to confront them. Now, I never see anyone outside, which is sad.

I hope the driver is charged with manslaughter if he/she was at fault. Even if the child crossed the street where there wasn't a crosswalk, a driver going the speed limit there (25) would have had time to avoid this.

FYI, to everyone else and the news media...THIS HAPPENED IN THE STREET, not in the parking lot! I was there, picking up my child. The teachers and staff at MDE do an excellent job of protecting the children! Please pray for this family, and for the driver of the SUV.

People, you have to understand the area in which this happened. There is a long line of cars stopped, waiting to pick up their kids. If she was in that line, and driving an SUV, if a child walks in front of the SUV and he/she is shorter than the front of the vehicle, you can't see them. The man who works at the crosswalk at this school does an excellent job of protecting the children. I'm sure this was nothing more than a tragic accident. Let's not make assumptions. Just pray for everyone involved.

Seriously, can we just assume that the lady probably feels terrible as it is. Unless you know the facts, let's try to just lift this up in prayer. My concern is for this little boy, his family, and for the lady driving the SUV and everyone in her life. Unless someone is obviously driving carelessly and we know the details of the accident, please keep negative opinions to yourself. This family is hurting enough as it is.
