Okay, seriously, to all of you who are being completely disrespectful and arrogant jerks, shut up. HE WAS NOT USING HIS CELL PHONE. Do you understand?! I'm close friends with a cop that researched Andrew's phone records and guess what? He wasn't freaking using his cell phone! So again, shut. Up. This was one of the most influential and incredible kids that ANYONE could ever meet. YES, there were two others involved and YES it is terrible what happened to them. But for you to come out and say that Andrew got off easy, WTF? Andrew DIED. Can you read that?! Do you understand what that means? Do you comprehend what that means to his family, his friends, his school? What happened to the Crainshaws is awful, yes it is horrible and I hope that God will come through and heal them. But they are still ALIVE. They will be able to go on with their lives and their family and friends will be able to see them and hold them and love on them until the day God mean't for them to die. But Andrew is gone now. And he was only 16. He had his whole life in front of him. HIS WHOLE LIFE. He hadn't even graduated high school! I don't even know how you people could possibly even THINK its okay to say those hurtful things at a time like this. Everyone makes mistakes. NOBODY follows the rules every day. He was late to Jazz Band, of course he is going to be stressed out and worried about that just like anyone else would be. And there is no way that you can say that the friends and family of Andrew are ONLY caring about what happened to him. How many of the above posts said something like, "My prayers go out to Andrew and the two other men?" It wasn't in those exact words, but at least half of the above posts give a message of sympathy towards both parties involved. You know, you people act as though the friends of the Hurd family are the bad people, but really its you. At least we are giving sympathy to the Crainshaws family and sending up prayers for those two men. But to those that made those rude comments on this site, you're being completely selfish, rude, and immature and its not appreciated. Must we go back to Kindergarten? wow,it's been two months and people are still commenting on this page. People if you have nothing nice to say then don't say it all. We are all still hurting here in Gardner over Andy. He was a best friend, a son, and a great teammate. so shut up about him already. and let him rest in peace. this is really hard to read all of the hateful content when you didn't go through what we did. have you ever thought that his parents could have read this?? that's totally disrespectful. oh and he wasn't texting and driving by the way. and not all teens do text and drive. its mostly adults now a days. and you can't blame that on all of us.

i miss andrew so much it's unbearable sometimes. but i know i will see him soon.

Andrew Hurd was not distracted by a phone or anything like that. He was one of the best drivers I knew and unfortunately this was the one time he slipped up. He was in a hurry to get back up to the school because he was going to be late for an Orchestra performance. He loved Orchestra. He wasn't distracted by anything, he was in a hurry.

When teenagers are taking the drivers test and the written test for the first time we need to have a special test for them to remind them of common sense rules such as no texting, no cell phone use and paying attention to the road signs. Too may teenagers are losing their lives. The goverment needs to also pass a law against driving while using a cell phone or texting by anyone, this is a accident waiting to happen. Years ago before the cell phone was even thought about people just drove thier car and focused on the road. Now people act like they can't survive with out a phone stuck to their ear. How ridiculous and sad. Get a life people. alot of people just don't having anycommon sense. And no people should not be allowed to drive with a blue tooth either, you are still on nthe phone and concentrating on the phone call. Pull over to the side of the road and don't endanger others lives.

FYI If you would have done your research it was said that cellphone was not the cause of the wreck. Keep your mouth shut and have respect for the family and friends. Would you like it if one of your kids passed away and some lady talked trash on them?? No you wouldn't.

I never new about Andrew until I was coming out of OP soccer fields and saw on the back of a van a sticker with a soccer ball under it that said "Andrew Hurd will be greatly missed" or something similar to that I can't remember. I had just got done with soccer and we were sitting at the stop light while me and my dad both read it and said "wow thats sad." It really bothered me for some reason so I saved the his name in my IPOD touch(Yesterday). Today I looked it up and found a couple of these sites and many news reports. Suprisingly I read every single news article and ever comment on these websites. It really touched me how much everyone cared and how he was loved by so many. I can't imagine what family and friends are going through. I am truely sorry for your loss but I know that he will be with everyone in spirit. This was some what of a life changing experience for me. Rest in peace Andrew Hurd you were greatly loved by many <3

I went to school with Andrew. and for you to come out and say something like this, is VERY disrespectful. We all know there was other people involved in this accident, but at this moment in time this article is about Andrew, the kid that lost his life. He may have ran the stop sign, but tell me how many ADULTS do that too. He made a mistake, that cost him his life, and now his friends, family, and close members of the community don't get to see him, talk to him, or even touch him for the rest of our lives. He got off easy? really? Dyin is easy? No where does it say that the other two people involved in this wreck will be handicapped for the rest of their lives, they could recover perfectly and have nothing wrong with them. So why don't you respect the people that knew Andrew and keep your Comments like this to YOURSELF. VERY DISRESPECTFUL.
Just for the record and almost 2 yrs after the fact.... I know the lossing Andrew was very hard for his family and friends and I am truly sorry for their loss as I also the two others from the truck he hit are... No one wants to see a teen loss their life.. but yes the two men from the accident still are not complete and never will be they were seriously injuried and they have to live in pain every day of their lives.... They also can not do most of the things they did prior to the accident and their family and friends have to see the pain they live in everyday. Just thought you might like to know.
