Again... thoughts and prayers are with the Meyer family and the driver of the SUV and her family as well. Just know that it could have been any one of us in your position. I know it wasn't, but it could have been. Accidents can and will always happen.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Meyer family and the driver of the SUV. I do not know the Meyers, but this is heart breaking.

I'm heart sick over this unfortunate event. My heart goes out to all the families involved. What an adorable boy, he will be missed.

My thoughts & prayers go to this family.
The news reported that the mother was holding her son in the street right after the accident.
I can't imagine her pain, or anything else that she went through, I am glad she had the chance to hold & comfort her son at probably the most critical time in his life. Hopefully she gets some comfort from having been there, sadly by his side at the end of his life, knowing he wasn't alone. I would have done the same thing.
I pray for peace for this mom, what she saw out there, will forever be burned in her nightmares for a lifetime. I can't imagine going through that.

I have to say, these people in these SUV's, they need to look better. Most of them think they own the road. I had a lady in an SUV back into me on New Years Eve, she admitted to the cop that she never looked behind her. There could have been a child behind her.

A person on a moped wouldn't have been able to stop quick enough. The fact that the child was run over shows that the vehical was traveling at a safe speed in that area and just never had a chance to stop. It was a tragic accident and my prayers go out to both families. What needs to happen now is a redesign of the waiting system for parents who are lined up and blocking traffic causing people to travel in the passing/turn lane. If the city and/or the school system had put a better system in place, this accident might have been avoided.

Actually John. I disagree with you. Those people in the Suv should have been paying attention and if they were going at a safe speed they would have been able 2 stop.

We've been through this in reply to the other article. She was traveling at a safe speed, in the center lane (which was her only option since there is a very long line of cars in the right hand lane waiting for students to dismiss). Kade ran out from between two of the cars in the waiting line, right in front of the SUV. I don't care how experienced you are behind the wheel, or what you are driving, when a person runs directly in front of your car, your brain simply doesn't register the danger quickly enough to respond. I was just a few cars in front of where this happened, and I didn't even hear tires, not because she wasn't looking, but because Kade ran right out into traffic and she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There are only two ways that this accident could have been prevented:
1. If Kade would not have ran out from between two parked cars instead of using the crosswalk or
2. if they closed the street to all vehicle traffic when the kids are entering and exiting school.
Since it is not practical to close a street it just reinforces the fact that we have to make our kids understand the dangers of being near traffic and that it only takes a second and one err in judgment to have a serious accident. Very sad.
