Garbage? These are young innocent children that are dying senselessly. How can you call them garbage? What type of person are you to say something as insensitive as that? Don't get me wrong things happen for a reason and these gang bangers live by the gun and they will die by the gun about the innocent bystanders don't deserve to die over such nonsense.

LOL one minute these communities scream the NYPD are thugs next they scream NYPD save us from thugs lol. Maybe those in the ghettos should decide once and for all who they want to side with and live with that decision and stop wavering.

These losers ARE garbage and deserve everything they get. The more gang violence takes a hold, the more of these a$$holes will end up dead and that has to be a win win for anybody with any sense. As for bystanders? Well I guess thats a shame, maybe the bystanders should get themselves a gun and join in! that way it'd be over quicker. It's always the blacks and latini scum like yourself who winge when somebody with sense makes a valid comment on here. If you don't like whats being told to you then get back to Puerto Rico, Mexico oe South America where you will fir in well. We don't need you here, you give us nothing and take everything.

Here is a quote from the original article by Commissioner Kelly"

"Kelly on Thursday announced the broadening Operation Gun Stop, which allows anonymous callers to tell police about illegal guns and receive a $1,000 cash reward."

Who does Commissioner Kelly think he is fooling? Does he really expect that the NYPD will pay a $1000 cash reward to people who turn in guns? We all know how corrupt New York City departments are, in general. Look at the arrest of the city official who was caught taking bribes from construction concerns to turn a blind-eye to crane defects! Instead of paying the reward, the NYPD will probably ask for a "kick-back" of part of the reward, and use their well-placed "bag men" to spread the graft around. "Do-nothing" police did not end with the Knapp Commission. Remember, this is New York City. The legacy of Tamanny Hall is still alive and well!

"Nam Vet" - You added absolutely nothing to the conversation, thanks again. I truly don't want to dispute this with you but I am from Massachusetts if you couldn't tell and I was born here. My father has some Portuguese in him so thats where the term comes from. So in other words I am where I belong. Further more I have been to Far Rockaway, and I was in the town when there shootings took place, it was all over the news that morning when I woke. You can judge from afar which is fine, but all my original comment was about is that this is senseless behavior and sad to hear.

Unfortunately, when you let low class people into your neighborhood, this is what happens. AMAZING how we can destroy a neighborhood so quickly.

Hate to say that I somewhat agree with you. Let the gang bangers kill each other. the unfortunate part is that innocent children get in the way. They should be arrested, and when they are put into cells, purposely put members of different gangs in cells. That way, they kill each other off.

Listen....anything is possible. The streets can be taken back if people are willing to be active members of the community. If everyone is soooo afriad of snitching put up motion sensitive cameras and let them do what they do. They are bound to expose themselves and they have no one to blame but themselves. Things can be done people need to get more creative and realistic, the time is now.

I actually live in this neighborhood as we speak. I'm not low class nor am I garbage. I'm currently moving to Glen Cove, NY..in Long Island. Far Rockaway has changed a lot in the past few years. It's starting to become scary to walk out your front door. It's not everyone's fault. I admit that some people do contribute to the mayhem but not all. I do feel bad about those who died especially the two children who died Tyree and Brandon. My daughter went to school with Brandon and Tyree played basketball in my sister-in-law's backyard. It's very typical for people to come on here and say that they were good children. But Tyree really was a good boy. As for Brandon...I didn't know her personally so I'm in no position to speak on that...but I do know that no one asks to be shot, especially not in the head, and when your still a child. So to generalize everyone who lives in the area and to look down on the deceased is disrespectful to yourself and your family

I agree. The younger generation of children in Far Rock need more things to do than run the streets. A more positive place to go and enjoy their youths. Show them that there is much more to life than what might seem cool and what the older kids are doing around them.

The City of New York decided in the early 1950s to make Rockaway a dumping ground for the human garbage piling up in Queens and Brooklyn. They built projects from Far Rockaway to Arverne, took over the LIRR link and made it a subway line. They wiped out a stable Irish-Italian-Jewish community in the Rockaways and opened up the human sewers in Far Rockaway destroying what had been a thriving community.

Are we supposed to be surprised at what happens when prison populations get the run of the town?

Most of those who received payoffs from Robert Wagner are dead, replaced with an army of social services who try to convince us that "no one really knows" why the children of criminal and chronically poor join gangs and do what their parents did. "Tsk, tsk... We'll just have to spend more money investigating this," they say.

Rockaway started as a little gem in New York's residential crown. Instead it turned into a junkyard with open cesspools and a "minority rules" mentality straight from the streets.

The same thing could have happened to Staten Island but the residents fought back--and won because they had the political clout. Not so in the Rockaways. It went to the highest low-bidder.

Check this out you people need to watch your mouth. You all think the police are heros well let me be the first to tell you they are not. This is all political and what u see on the news is not whats on paper in the courtroom. Half this shit won't even stick you got more dirty police in 101 & other precincts in Rockaway than anyone cares to speak about. Especially Detective Cressida however he spells his name. He can come at me cause Im so clean its ridiculous. That dude is a dirty cop. If these kids can afford a high powered lawyer all this so called 2 yr investigation will go straight to hell and the new media will never report it. How about giving Rockaway more money so we can create more resources for these kids instead of locking them up. Trust me half of these kids is gonna walk and the drug dealers will be here forever. I was born & raised in Far Rockaway and I never ever seen a drug free zone. The police are the biggest dealers in the Rock trust me. How about finding out who killed Stack Bundles what happen to that. They gets no credit from me report the story again as each one of these kids get sentenced. I bet you all the tea in china that the media will dissapear; Ray Kelly & the crew also. Please I was born & raised in Far Rock and drugs has never stopped being sold here. How about cleaning up them beaches on 17th & up; fix the train stations etc. Stop trying to cover up the short comings of Queens Poloticians. This is such bullshit...I have NEVER EVER been afraid to walk the streets of Far Rockaway. Get rid of the dirty cops & politicians with their lying ass and maybe we will get somewhere. Stop calling these kids garbage they are just a product of community and society neglect. Shit you can't even beat yours kids these days without white folks saying we are abusing them & trying to lock us up. This is the result of trying to dictated how we raise our children. Mine your goddamn busines Bloomberg, Kelly and the rest of you dirty assholes.

'Society neglect' Ah the never ending reason for the actions of savages born and raised in the Rock. The never ending drug sales are a product of the community that is subhuman that would rather hit the corners instead of the books. Clearly Far Rockaway is way too diverse to be a civilized neighborhood and will continue to be a drug market as noted by the OP. More money for Far Rockaway? For what basketball courts and GED classes. My advice is for you to take up a collection from 'concerned' citizens and see how far it gets. It could be the beginning of your community organizing career.

So the community of Far Rockaway, N.Y. hasn't changed much over the years; the same old, same old.
When are the people of Far Rock going to wake up and want better for their community?

Do you folks even vote?

Do you get active with your local community board?

Do you monitor your children's activities?

Get involved in their schooling?

What is it going to take to change the culture of apathy that permeates that community?

You have to understand that staying silent and watching the community go to trash is only going to make things worse.
Arverne, Redfern, Hammels, Ocean Village are all crime infested dwellings that a person with common sense stays away from.
If you see something wrong, call the police that's what they're for.
The punks in these gangs are out of control and have the community under seige; gangs gunfire and drug dealing is not normal living.
Stop making excuses for miscreants.

I have lived in Far Rockaway for 2 yrs now, and yesterday my daughter and her friend were walking home from school and in broad daylight 2 kids were looking for someone to rob. They watched these boys wrap their bandannas around their faces and approach different ppl. One thing we have to admitt that this place is full of drug addicts I myself live around 3 different crack houses where I have witnessed some women with kids in strollers taking the babies in the homes while they do their drugs. I have a neighbor that stands in front of the property waiting for other drug addicts to pass by so they can get them to come into their house and get high there. I call it crack networking.
