I am a retired soldier who became a preacher. The first thing I learned in the Army was to read the other guy's opertions manual and learn what and how he thinks. After 9-11 I read the Qur'an and I was surprised to discover that when it comes to waging war it is far more humane and closer to the modern rules of war than is the Old Testament.

Oh, really? You mean like when he beheaded 900 Jewish men and boys in one day and then raped the wives of some of the same men they murdered and took these women as slaves? How 'humane' of them.

The Old Testament

Joshua 6:21 (sack of Jericho)

They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.

Joshua 8:1-26 (destruction of Ai)

Then the Lord said to Joshua… You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves.… When Israel had finished killing all the men of Ai in the fields…all the Israelites returned to Ai and killed those who were in it. Twelve thousand men and women fell that day – all the people of Ai. For Joshua did not draw back the hand that held out his javelin until he had destroyed all who lived in Ai.

Joshua 10:28-40 (destruction of southern cities)

That day Joshua took Makkedah. He put the city and its king to the sword and totally destroyed everyone in it. He left no survivors.…(Libnah) The city and everyone in it Joshua put to the sword. He left no survivors.…(Lachish) The city and everyone in it he put to the sword, just as he had done at Libnah.…(Eglon) They captured it … and put it to the sword and totally destroyed everyone in it, just as they had done to Lachish.…(Hebron) They took the city and put it to the sword, together with its king, its villages and everyone in it. They left no survivors.…(Debir) They left no survivors.… So Joshua subdued the whole region … He left no survivors.

Deuteronomy 20:10-16 (rules of war)

When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. If they accept and offer their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. If they refuse to make peace … put to the sword all the men in it. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves.… However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.

The Holy Koran

Sura 2:190

Fight for the sake of God against those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. God does not love aggressors.

Sura 47:1

When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly. Then grant them their freedom or take a ransom form them, until War shall lay down her burdens.

I suggest that you buy a copy of the Holy Koran and actually read it. Penguin Classics publishes a very good English translation by N. J. Dawood, a British scholar who spent his childhood in Baghdad in the 1930s. It is a book of about 600 pages, fairly large type, and about a quarter of each page is taken up by parallel Arabic text. It has a good index. Also get a copy of St. Augustine's Christian rules for making war. You will find that the Koran explicitly forbids targeting non-combatants, and that it and St. Augustine's rules are close parallels.

If you look in that same Koran, you will find constant contradictions. You are posting the little tidbits that make Islam look benign. How about posting for us the part with instructions on how to torture infidels to make sure they suffer adequately?

You are certainly right! The Koran was written by a warmongering, illiterate man who spent his life murdering and destroying lives. It's unbelievable that in spite of all these centuries of death and misery, there are still people foolish enough to give their lives to such a religion. It angers me that there are many Americans who are so gullible as to uphold the "right" of this evil religion to be in our country.

Ah, yes. Muhammad and all his rabid followers are so humane. How can an American, after 9-11 and all the atrocities since then, offer support or justification for these violent people? The Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan danced in our streets as 9-11 was taking place, cheering the terrorists, and our treacherous media didn't bother to cover it; yet gullible Americans still insist they are peaceful. They should have all been deported.

Every country that has allowed Muslims to move in has regretted it. France and the UK have many problems because of them, as do many other nations.

I spent a summer in the Dearborn area when I was a kid but haven't been back since. It apparently is no longer fit to visit. As you may know, in June 2012 the Dearborn Muslims attacked a group of Christians, throwing things such as heavy plastic cartons, etc, at them and were allowed to get by with it by the local authorities. The Sheriff's people who came actually threatened the Christians instead of arresting the criminal Muslims because one of them was himself a Muslim.
From Fox news:
http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stor... of arresting those hurling stones, the sheriff’s department pulled aside the Bible Believers and instructed them to leave the festival – even though it was being held in a public area.
“You’re a danger to the safety right now,” Deputy Chief Dennis Richardson told the group.“You’re disorderly.”
The conversation between Richardson and Israel was captured on video. Members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Dept. told the Christian group that their presence was jeopardizing public safety – and that officers would be escort them off the premises.
“We have a responsibility of policing the entire festival and obviously your conduct is such that it’s causing disturbance and is a direct threat to the safety of everyone here,” Richardson said.“Someone could get hurt. You, you already have blood on your face.”
“If you don’t leave, we’re going to cite you for disorderly,” he added said.
“I would assume 200 angry Muslim children throwing bottles would be more of a threat than a few guys with signs,” Israel replied."

Obviously many of our legal authorities are as vile as the Muslim criminals.

Tariq al-Mudarris, I am still waiting for your answer as to why non-combatant Daniel Pearl was beheaded if Islam doesn't attack non-combatants.

I think Mudarris is talking about the ideals of Islam, which the beheading of Daniel Pearl went directly against.

Christianity has its examples of that kind of thing too. Germany was a nominally Christian nation, but look at all the atrocities that German soldiers committed in Belgium in World War I and all over Europe, and especially in Russia, during World War II. The allied fire raids on Dresden and Tokyo and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki violated the Christian rules of war concerning non-combatants too.

I know exactly what he is talking about and what he is doing. He is—like all Muslims—trying to make Islam look all peaceful and benign when he knows deep in his heart that Islam is evil. He, like many Muslims, wears blinders when it comes to explaining the atrocities that supposedly contradict Islam. However, the Koran contradicts itself in that one verse will promote supposed piety while another sounds like something straight from Hell, from which Islam originated. Of course, you noticed that not one Muslim on any of these threads, where I mentioned the murder of Pearl and the others who were likewise beheaded, has had any response. The truth is they probably were in the arena cheering when the beheadings took place, just as the treacherous Muslims in Dearborn cheered in the streets when our people were being murdered in the WTC and the field in Pennsylvania.

Christianity does not have examples of that kind of thing. Christianity is not a nation but a religion of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Christianity has no rules of war. It has nothing whatsoever to do with wars and the evils of that occur. Christianity does not instruct its followers to kill but, in fact, to love our enemies, as Christ taught. Many evils are done under the guise of Christianity by people who pretend to be Christians.(I could pretend to be Queen Elizabeth but that wouldn’t make me her)
I am not interested in going page by page through history, listing each and every sin of the nations at war. What is relevant is that presently the crazed followers of Islam are at war with us, intending to take over our nation and enslave and kill us. I should think you and the other deceived, gullible Americans, who are so naïve as to turn their heads to the dangers of Islam in our country, would have enough wisdom to see what is happening and try to stop it. If Americans do not rise up and take a stand against this cancer of Islam, we will fall. Do you want your children to live under sharia law? I can tell you it will happen If we continue to sit idly by while these Muslims continue their progress in our court systems, government, and schools, The takeover of Dearborn by these people should send you a sufficient warning of how easy it is for them to infiltrate our country with their violence and disrespect for our laws and traditions. They care for nothing but their idiotic religion and will do anything to obey its commands.

Oh, yes. Christianity has plenty of examples of that sort of thing. Read Runciman's history of the Crusades. The 9-11 hijackers were paying no more attention to the true teachings of Islam than the Crusaders who slaughtered the population of Jerusalem were paying to the teachings of Jesus.

Plenty of Muslims responded after 9-11, after Pearl's murder, and at other times. But it didn't do them any good because Islamophobic "Christian" haters like you never bother to listen. Read this:

http://inamerica.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/11/opi...

I lived in a western state for several years and had three Muslim families as my nearest neighbors. I kept a loaded hunting rifle beside my bed, not because I feared my neighbors but because I was afraid that somebody that adheres to the sentiments I've seen expressed here might attack them.

I am very familiar with the history of the Crusades and am not interested in reading a watered-down version of them. The Christian crusaders weren’t the ones who did the slaughtering; it was the Muslims who did the torture and killings, which was what caused the Crusades.
The 9-11 terrorists were doing exactly what Islam advocates. I am tired of you supporters of Islam trying to make it out to be a peaceful religion when it is not and never has been. Its founder was a warmonger who delighted in torturing and killing people. In all the centuries since its founding, Islam has murdered anyone who didn’t accept that demonic religion.

I stated that no one on these threads has responded to the mention of Daniel Pearl. I didn’t say that no one in the world expressed sympathy for him. However, at the time, I recall no one from the Muslim community expressing any indignation about his beheading. I only recall the cheers worldwide when the video of his beheading was aired.
Don’t falsely accuse me of Islamophobia. That is an overused weapon of Jihadists and hose who resort to name calling when they can think of nothing better to say. I don’t speak from fear but from knowledge of what Islam really is. You can hide behind your typical American trait of trusting everyone, if you like; but I don’t choose to pretend there is no danger in allowing Islam into this country. If you want to be naïve, that’s your choice but don’t try to force your foolish thinking off on me.
You forget Major Nidal Hasan at Ft. Hood, the friendly doctor everyone considered a good neighbor and friend, who suddenly turned violent and murdered his co-workers because his vile imam told him he should, as per the Koran. This can be repeated anytime an imam feels like killing someone, for the majority of Muslims are like sheep following the leader.

I may be mistaken, but I'm under the impression thaat Mr. al-Mudarris's post was intended for me. If it was he's probably waiting for me to reply, which I haven't had time to do.

As to the person who said, "Christianity has no rules of war":

If it doesn't a lot of American soldiers have been taught wrong. The West's code of conduct in war is ultimately based on Luke 6:31, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It can be traced through the teachings of St. Augustine, the knightly code of chivalry, right down to the Geneva Convention. It is NOT based on the rules of war set down for the Hebrews in the Old Testament. In that the rules of war formulated by Christians out of New Testament teachings have a great deal in common with the Koran but nothing in common with the Old Testament.
