Here's the story, so others don't have to dig.

Augusta, GA -- It is good news for the Garden City, and those who are looking for a job. Officials with Teleperformance told city leaders Augusta was the right fit for its new call center and the 350 jobs it is looking to fill.

Bob Massey, Executive V.P., TelePerformance: "The workforce is here. You've got the demographics here in Augusta. We surveyed a number of cities in Georgia. Augusta came out number one in terms of offering the population, the people we need to be successul in this business, in providing customer service. We're looking for people willing to work hard, highly committed, and eager to learn."

Augusta Tech President Terry Elam says TelePerformance had to be convinced there was a workforce here before selecting Augusta.

Terry Elam, President, Augusta Tech: "And, now its time for us to deliver that workforce. We're going to provide training space. We're going to help recruit. There will be a quickstart component as part of TelePerformance, and Augusta Tech is going to be there to help them anyway we can."

TelePerformance has operations around the world...and has its hands in the financial, healthcare, technology and healthcare sectors. It has more than 80,000 employees, worldwide, and is a $2 billion company.

Officials with TelePerformance say the fact there was an existing building to launch its operations helped push the deal through.

Massey: "The fact that the building is available is a very important factor, because we didn't want to start from stratch and have to put up a facility. We want to be up and running by mid-May."

Hiring will start in mid-March up to the first week in April. The pay will start at $9.00 to $9.50 an hour.

Job fairs will be held at Augusta Tech, several hospitals and universities in the area to fill the openings. The call center is expected to be up and running by May.
