There's "Facebook rumors" that TCBY in Lenoir is getting a visit from corporate and may be shut down.
Does anyone know about this?
D'Lishi is gonna steal TCBY's 10 customers.

It's not a "rumor". Corporate is wanting the local store to spend $50K in upgrades! Of course, giving the economy in our area, that's not possible for this local family to spend that kind of money. Sooooo, the corporate guys were planning a visit to TCBY this morning. That's why they were asking for all the locals to come out and support them. IT WAS GREAT!!! and there was more like 10 x 25 loyal customers there to show the Kromer's support! TCBY has been in Lenoir for 25 years and we want to keep it that way!!! Thanks to all who came out to show your support this morning!!

unfortunately,it didn't change a thing. Corporate offered up limited financial help, and the owners couldn't finish the rest of the expense. Corporate states that Mark and Melanie declined the update and that was their choice. Fact is money isn't growning on trees around here in Lenoir, and its just another bunch of fat cat money bags abandoning another business in Caldwell County.

Best wishes Mark and Melanie in what ever you do and what ever happens.

Can't they just drop the TCBY name and operate under a new name? Just change things enough not to be affiliated with TCBY any longer?

if it is also listed on local TV, that's a good indication that things are legit..the other TCBY post listed is linked to actual footage...

If I remember correctly this is the same thing that happened to Golden Corral. Corporate required an update to keep up the company image and the owners were unable or un-willing to make the updates so they closed it.

Sure I don't know the logistics, but forget the TCBY corporate raiders, there are other ice cream out here and don't know why you don't convert to an ice cream shop. I did not come there because you are a TCBY, I came for ice cream. Screw TCBY!!!!!! It is there brand name and identification that will be lost forever in Lenoir!!!!!! Boycott any TCBY franchise in NC send TCBY out of NC.

Actually in the case of Golden Corral they are corporate owned. Every "X" number of years they require upgrades. If the profit for the location does not offset the cost of the upgrades then the close. This was told to me by a manager from the Lenoir location who now works elsewhere

Exactly, if TCBY does not care enough about it's local customer base as to consider closing this location because some corporate ass deciding this location isn't fancy enough, then screw TCBY, Hopefully the owners can convert to a non branded product and remain in business. TCBY should just be happy people are still willing to buy the over priced products they sell considering the state of the local economy

I cant see how a business like TCBY cant afford 50k to upgrade. At the very least I am sure a business owner could get a business loan to do so. If there business is that bad maybe it's time to rethink their business.

Golden Corral was the same way but they had plenty of business, they just wanted to push back at the corporate office so they shut them down. Golden Corral was doing great but they had local owners and they seemed to think that they could do however they pleased.

I don't recall hearing that business is bad, but even if someone is turning a profit, having to borrow money to take a business up to corporation standards is adding an extra financial burden on the business. IMO, the owners are being smart by not borrowing all the extra money to pour into the TCBY franchise name. I don't know if they have concidered changing the name and staying open or not. I think if they are concidering such action, I hope they know that by the number of people who visited their store yesterday, we will support their business effort.

I understand fully why they would not spend 50k for an upgrade. My business does well however i would not absorb the added expense in such a volatile economy, often this type upgrade is more image oriented, not actually increasing customer base to offset the cost. Like most of us in business, margins are slim, competition is tough, and every dollar counts

I live in the community. Her famous last words to one child visiting was Go To H.... This was heard in a loud manner. It is obvious people do and will put on a facade for the public. I am glad that the Old Girl will be scooping yogurt. She is scary to look at thats for sure.
