I am a divorced,(married for 27 years)mother of grown children planning to move to Galveston mid June. Long story short, I am a survivor of long term domestic violence at the hands of my former husband, I have very little funding for my move. Where do I start? As a child my parents and I visited thr ile every summer and I have always dreamed of living there. However, I have not been to Galveston in 22 years. I am a special education teacher making very little money and credit is shot due to the divorce & foreclosure on my home. Any suggestions as to where I might start to find housing? Is there a women's shelter where I could stay until I get on my feet?

Advice Please, have you made it here yet? I hope so. If not, they recently opened the new Salvation Army facility and I believe it offers a place for women. Anyone else know more about it, please chime in. Some apartments available with little move-in costs, and there may be a local landlord willing to work with you on rental of a room or small duplex. As far as jobs, special education teachers are usually in demand, but this time of year, you may have to settle for a seasonal position somewhere until you get yourself a place. If this is where you want to be, it can be a wonderful place to live. Wishing you the best
