Take a stand against Lyda Ann

We need to take a stand against Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas and Judge Yarbrough. Yarbrough has the state searching for a way to forcibly remove people from their private property. "I don't want to do it," Yarbrough said. "I'm doing it because it's in their best interests." Do we want the a governmental official to tell us what is best for us?

Our Mayor has decided we should not be allowed to even see our property for a long time. She has restricted media access. She has been able to secure her home on M near 25th, but does not believe the citizens of Galveston should have the same rights.

Maybe it is time for the citizens of Galveston to insist on access to our homes. I propose that we show up, en masse, at 10am Saturday at the causeway bridge to show her how much we want to see our homes.

Shame on you, Lyda Ann, for trying to be an overprotective mother. We are constituents, not children.

she may know things you don't like there are still bodies being recovered, the potential for illness and additional death is likely, and they are just too overwhelmed to add layers of people into the mix at the moment. I would want to go home too but you will at some point and it will be devastating enough. she is a smart woman and a good woman. i would leave her to her monumental task. by the way, we are still missing two grandchildren and a son in law so we'd like to go in there too but we trust the mayor.

To trust the mayor right now is like trusting a fox in a hen house. Mayor Thomas fought hard to keep Galvestonians out after Hurricane Rita when there was little to no damage to the island. Now that her emergency powers have been extended another week, she is able to keep her media blackout and bone-headed antics of wanting citizens to come back to a sparkling city. Newsflash to her and Danny Weber - The only way Galveston will recover from this storm is through the efforts of those who are determined to get back to their homes and places of business and begin the recovery efforts. We cannot allow OUR city government to continue to bully us out of our homes. Contact Galveston officials every day, every hour to let them know how angry we are that we are being forced to sit idlely by while our homes wick up more water, form more mold and become more and more unlivable.

Janet, I feel for you and your family and hope you are reunited soon, but if my relatives were missing, I would do a lot more than sit around and wait for the mayor's daily 15-minute press conference.
