I was wondering if Moody Gardens, Rainforest Cafe or any of the other places to go when you go down there on vacation are distroyed! I would hate for this to happen! Please let me know if anyone knows! Also about the monuments on the seawall that were there because of the hurricane that destroyed Galveston last time which was many years ago.

Just curious, did Shrimp 'N Stuff make it ok? Are they open or will they be opening again?

Fisherman's Wharf, Waterman's and Avery's both out on the West End!?? Does anyone have any updates on some of the local places?

Are any of the hotels open yet?

Shrimp and Stuff is open but they have new owners so the food isn't as good...disappointing. Landry's, The Spot, Tortuga's, Chili's are all open. Sunday brunch at the Galvez has started again. Hotel rooms are difficult to get because of the housing vouchers.

Thanks Jim. New owners since when? We were there in June. We are hoping to make a trip down the first week in February, any chance there will be beach rentals or hotel rooms available??!! Plan B is to stay in Houston and make Galveston a day trip.

I was on the island this past Saturday and drove all over the island .There is a lot of destruction but the Poop Deck is still there and open for bussiness. Actually I was surprised to see a large crowed there , but that was a pleasent surprise to see bussiness comming back.
I hear that more bussiness are openning every day and thats the resilliance that people who live on the coast have . GOD bless Galveston and her residents .

Hello from Galveston! I live a few blocks from the Poop Deck, the crowd is back and so is the music. The sea wall is looking better and some places are now open. Murdocks, Hooters, and the Balanisse are gone. Most of the fast food places are open and the hotel restuarants. Downtown and the Strand still look really bad, nothing is open down there but a lot of work is going on. Everything is very dirty right now, it really does look like a 3rd world country in certain places but our beautiful little city will be back, with alot of prayers and hard work. It has been 1 month and we could still use any volunteers that want to come help. Every day you see people still cleaning out houses. The Biker Rally has been moved back to Dec but is still on as well as Dickens on the Strand. If you ever wanted to come see Galveston, please consider coming to one of these events, then you will see the true determination of the people of Galveston as well as helping us out. Thank you for all of your prayers and support, don't forget about us, we are still here and will rebuild.

Not sure about the restaurants but I just wanted to Thank everyone that has posted on this forum for the support, kindness and respect. My house on the West End made it but is now front row (was three rows back). It is truly sad to see the devastion but encouraging to see everyone supporting each other and rebuilding the Island. It will come back bigger and better than ever!

I read this morning that Hotel Galvez re-opened!! That is great news and a good sign!

There are so many of us that keep y'all in our thoughts and prayers. Is there any place that is posting UPDATED pictures as the clean up progresses??!!

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying
Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
At Galveston, at Galveston

You know what they say about this being the season of goodwill to all men? Well, you get the chance to put it into action today by being understanding, tolerant and compassionate towards the people you meet. This doesn't mean you should condone anything awful that they do, but simply that you need to look beyond that to the larger picture.
