I actually am a liberal, what was once considered a moderate, before the dramatic polorazation in the political world. I am for cutting red tape, fighting crime with education and affordable rehab centers, and jobs, so many want to work, but can't. I spent a year in Louisiana fighting more dredging ( major cause of Katrina destruction, and all for oil). No suprise, the oil companies won. As for responsible growth of Vallejo, I am moving back here after 30 years away and I find the green hills covered with cookie cutter houses filled with people who have no concern for Vallejo, except for the crime rate. Where do they all work anyway? Certianly not Vallejo. Where were you when they blasted away the hills? There is no affordable housing in Vallejo, no jobs to speak of in the industry that I work in (green industry, independant). I would have to buy gas, pay tolls, and drive to shop where I can afford to shop.(My industry does not pay well, but I work in improving the environment, I walk the talk) The move here is not looking so good. Laughingly enough, I am going to end up in San Jose/Campbell because, believe it or not it is cheaper there, and safer. Oh, and jobs galore. Social services that I need badly, and the people are kinder. I might add that the people running the cities there seem to be sane.

Oops, I forgot to say I have spent the majority of my years away in Illinois, the last 6 in Chicago, a safer place to live than Vallejo. At least they try. And for some reason this goofy program put that I am in Oakland, I am not. I am spending time running back and forth between Vallejo and San Jose. I would prefer to live in Vallejo where my Mother needs me. It just isn't going to work out. Thanks, Vallejo.

Remember folks, if you don't want to buy the "cheap" products at Walmart you have all the right to shop elsewhere but you should also respect the rights of those who are regular shoppers of Walmart in American Canyon, Napa, Fairfield, Pittsburg, Vacaville, Antioch, Dixon, Pleasanton or even in Vallejo in the near future.

Ummmm, did you happen to see the part of this article that states "Article Launched: 10/22/2006 11:08:41 AM PDT"

That is TWO - ZERO - ZERO - SIX, have you looked at a calendar recently? The one I have says that it's February TWO - ZERO - ZERO - EIGHT.

A little math lesson for you what does 2008 – 2006 equal?

Please figure that one out....please!

You do realize that our county along with Napa County are the ONLY two counties in the entire bay area that do not pay a 0.05 cent tax to improve and maintain our roads? We've been offered it more than once and voted it down each time....0.05 that is one half of a penny a 1/2 cent tax. It's not corruption that's the issue it's ignorance that is the problem.

Vicki, there is no Wal-Mart in Walnut Creek! Your skewed comments are the reasons Napa, Benicia, and Am. Canyon are opening new business and restaurants, while Vallejo is dying on the vine. In a few years, Poprt Costa across the straits will have more business than downtown Vallejo.

willig,

Your post only goes to show how little time you spend in downtown Vallejo. Your assessment of 'dying on the vine' could not be more wrong.

Constant building renovation, high-end loft style apartments avaialable, brand new theater, a handful of top notch resturants. Momentum is building, just take a look.

I am pleased to know that Walmart is not going to have carte blanche to build another low wage paying big box store. We need more revenue truly, but Walmart is not a great solution.

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Leo

If you're worried about running up big debts in what is usually one of the most expensive months of the year, start keeping a running total of how much money you've spent so far. You might have to restrict the amount you spend on Christmas presents, or make other savings in order to stay within your budget, but you realize the folly of ending up severely out of pocket.
