Keep moving, Altoona!! Congratulations! The so-called aclu, as well as all these other ILLEGAL defenders can't sue EVERY city. With any luck at all, they'll realize they'll run out of money and the LEGAL Amerian citizens are NOT supportive of them !! Yiipppeee!! FINALLY some politicians who are patriotic enough to SAY enough!!

Sounds great! This is the way change is made, the ACLU always protects the wrong side. This scum needs to be taught a lesson, several communities coming together showing the entire country what real Americans think. Way to go Altoona, PA!

I remember years ago when I first heard about the aclu. I thought it was great back then and now wonder if they really were, or if that was just my "impression". I thought back then that they defended minorities, which was just fine with me! Women, blacks, etc. Helping them get better treatment; FAIR treatment, and therefore, a better chance in life. But people they defended back then, as far as I knew, were LEGAL citizens. They HAD rights in this country!

But if that's what they really were back then, they sure have changed! Now they rub me the wrong way every single time I hear of something they're suing for. I wish they would just give up and disband or move to another country! lol....ANYTHING but operate here in our country.

But I figure their money supply isn't endless, and I'm really HOPING they'll just run out of money and sit down and shut up.

Hazelton and Altoona are simply representing the views of their citizens. Unfortunately, as soon as these laws are enacted, the illegal residents pack up and move to the next unsuspecting location. Neighboring communities need to be on the same page or they will soon be inundated with illegal residents, swamping the schools and somehow obtaining social services to which they are not entitled. As soon as Hazelton took a stand, Scranton's population grew. Now the school board is talking about the need for a new elementary school to accommodate our new arrivals.

I'm glad Altoona made this move to push out the illegal immagrants. This city is bad enough with immagrants from New York and Philadelphia selling drugs. If your going to let the illegal immagrants in to this country don't let them use our medicare make them pay social security and don't give them welfare.

In reference to Andre's comment about it being so much better for Altoona...I couldn't agree more heartily. Since I am a Scrantonian, however, I see the emergence of the population that is leaving places such as Altoona and Hazelton arriving here. I am not in any way critical of either place; in fact, I applaud them for doing the job, like so many others, by the way, that our Federal government refuses to do. I only wish that the mayors of the towns and cities around the state could form a consortium and ALL get on board. It's almost like a game of cat and mouse; a city or town finally decides to address the situation and the illegal population simply melts away to another location. If the option of another location is not available, then there is only one place left, back to the place of origin.

I imagine that you've read about the ruling of the 9th circuit court in reference to a voter ID law in Arizona. Those nuts say it is a violation of the rights of "citizens" to demand proof of citizenship in order to vote. I see no problem with this because it protects a right inherent to citizenship and denies the opportunity to shape policy to those who are not entitled by law. To permit people who cannot prove citizenship the right to vote and by sheer numbers, elect in some places those who will validate the right of illegal immigrants to access tax supported services and determine policy while contributing nothing will be the end of our faltering democracy. We might as well run Vincente Fox for president in 2008.

I can agree. On one point: go look at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals record over the last few years. If the verdicts were not so abominable, they'd be laughable. It's funny. More and more 'for security reasons' they can get away with asking for a CITIZEN'S life story just to get a mortgage loan in this country. But they can't ask whether or not a person is even a citizen of this country before they vote? Give me a break!

Ever feel like YOU'RE the alien here?

as far as I know Altoona is a mostly white town. Blacks in America are not consider illegal and when I visited Altoona back on October the areas where the deadbeats where living where where pack white individuals. As far as I know individual or illegal inmigrants whom apply for legal status in this country and that are permitted here legally have to sign documents that state that they won't be a burden to the country. No State allow the entrance to the USA without a permit and those who come here illegally cannot apply for SS or medicare and much less welfare. The only time that they are treated is in case of an emergency as any reasonable human being will do for another.
Your racist comments not only lack simpathy and humanity but also a lack of knowledge and intelligence.

Don't you worry children!!! Most Illegal aliens come to this country to better their economical situation. Unless the critical situation in Altoona(according to most residents of Altoona!) concerning unemployment and other issues gets better, Altoona is not going to attract residents, much less illegal aliens whom are looking for jobs at any cost and cannot get any help in their position from the goverment contrary to what most ignorants believe. On the contrary! If you take a minute of your wasted meaningless time(and life!) to assume anything why don't you take another moment and check the stadistics in Altoona?you'll find that the population in Altoona is disminishing instead of increasing. Even the residents are leaving to look for better horizons somewhere else where is offer. I love Altoona, even though I don't live there. Unfortunately you will find the ignorant anywhere...

Belle, I would strongly suggest you do some reading about illegal aliens in our country before you make statements that are sooo incorrect about how they can't get welfare, or any other social services. You're so wrong; you must not READ AT ALL. They collect benefits American citizens can't get and WE pay for them with our tax money. OUR tax money pays for ILLEGAL ALIENS' children to go to school, get free breakfasts and lunches, free ESL classes, free food stamps, free/reduced rent...and I could go on and on. And as far as only treating them for emergencies in hospitals...once again you are totally wrong! Hospitals in the southwest U.S. are closing with lightning speed because they can't pay for all the free services ILLEGAL ALIENS get in this country's hospitals! Good Lord....READ, will you???

Blair County, PA has spent well over $50,000 on the prosecution of an illegal alien in the UVA murder trial. So far, Miguel Padilla has been represented by at least five attorneys.......his cost $0!!!!!

Here's the problem....our legal agreement with Mexico allows this.

Here's the solution.....change the freaking law!!!!!!!!

It's insanity. Have you read about the two border patrol agents that shot (supposedly) a drug runner in the butt? OUR government went to Mexico and asked him 'pretty please' to come to the US and testify against the agents. They gave him free medicial care AND immunity! He was then caught a SECOND time running drugs over the border! Now, the two agents, young men with families, are serving time and HE is suing the USA for violating his 'RIGHTS'!!!

He was sentenced to death for each of the three murders. According to the Altoona Mirror today, his attorneys (again, we taxpayers are paying for five of them) have asked that the death sentence be thrown out & he either be given life or retried on the death penalty.

SO far, Blair County has spent $80,000 of taxpayer money on the Padilla trial. The number continues to rise because of the five attorneys trying to come up with ways to void the death sentence.
