Sound off! (Nov. 4)

Full story: Las Cruces Sun-News

As a faculty member of NMSU I think it's disgraceful the regents are considering Oblinger from North Carolina State, and Herman from the University of Illinois for the position of president of the university.

"I thought NMSU wanted to bring in a president who would make a long-term commitment to us. One of the candidates is 68 years old. What kind of long-term commitment is he going to make."

I guess you're one of those rich, old geezers who doesn't have to work for a living, otherwise you wouldn't be promoting age discrimination. But maybe you're right, what do old people know? Let's get a younger person like Gogue or Martin...who still has time to blow in for a couple of years and then blow out to a bigger and better job.

Plus many college presidents work well into the 70s and, by the way, it's illegal to ask some interviewing for a job how long they plan to stay because guess what? When someone takes a job, any job, they don't have to stay any longer than their contract says they have to stay.

i think the endorsement by the sun news and the BIA destroyed the election.. or maybe it was that those candidates were so out of touch with reality the voters saw right through them!

good job LC~!

Hmmm, well if you and other faculty feel that strongly about Oblinger, why not stage a walk out for a day. Surely that would gather someones attention?? Or take it to the faculty senate and pass a (useless) resolution stating the dislike for him. Think a walk out would be a better route huh.

Don't worry about last night's elections, Democrats. It was just a one-time bump in the road. Keep spending trillions of dollars and shoving legislation down the throats of Americans that were created behind closed doors. Remember, that's the hope and change we voted for.

Why are newspapers endorsing any candidates period. Newspapers were at one time politically neutral and just gave each party equal time. Guess that's what happens when you go from objective to subjective journalism.

November 3 2009 was just a preview of November 2 2010. Democrats, remember for whom the bell toals.

I've gotten some information on the Republican Health Care plan, and I have to admit it is more realistic and effective than Pelosi's plan.

Of course, there are the idealogues on here that will see the R-word and automatically tear it down w/o reading it (it happens on both sides). However, if you are really sincere about improvement in the current system without radically destroying the country, it's worth a look in my opinion.

Can any of you " liberal gays" tell me why you would want to be associated with a party involved with Barney "the queer" Frank, Nanci Pelosi, or Chris Dodd? Can any of you morons explain that to me? ;o)

I agree with this , unless of course the economy comes back strong by the 2010 mid term elections. If the economy does come back strong everyone will forget about everything Nobama has done. I am no Nobama supporter just telling you like it is.

The democraps purposely held up the stimulus money and cost jobs so they could let most of it out in 2010 and buy the midterm elections. They could care less about the people without jobs now, it was all about buying the election otherwise they would have done what they said they had to do and get it out fast to create jobs now..Anyone remember that as their rallying cry when they pushed that subset of deification through!!!

I agree 100%, but if they want that to work they better get the ball moving. I am not a democrat supporter by any means. I just want the economy to come back strong reguardless who's in office. If Obama can turn the economy around he is a 2 term preisdent. If it continues to stagnate, he will be out . Plain and, simple!

First of all, it wasn't the Regents who made the final decision on the candidates. It was the selection committee. The Regents will choose who to hire and are looking avidly for all of your input.
Secondly, if you all are so concerned with who the Regents are going to pick, make your voice heard. Attend any and all forums and ask the questions you all so readily complain about. I'm sure some of the things you have done in your past, you are not so proud of and wouldn't like to be judged on those choices alone. Ask the candidates how their past discretions would come into play here at NMSU.
Lastly, THEY ARE CANDIDATES!!! They in no way have the job already. Writing into sound off doesn't do anything.

That is also why the tax increases to pay for Obamacare will not hit us until 2013, after Obama has tried to win his second term.

You are flat out factually WRONG! From the earliest days of the colonies Newspapers have been highly partisan, slanted, and biased. But up until TV really began its rise in the 60's and Regan stopped enforcing anti-trust laws, there were usually at least 2 papers in towns of any size, and they were locally owned and had competing philosophies.

“Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.Newspapers may present general facts with accuracy, but no details can be relied on.” President Thomas Jefferson - 1807 letter to 17-year-old John Norvell.

As much as I hate to do this, I have to agree with PR for once. He speaks the truth.

I love daylight savings time, people that work all day get to come home and have a few hours left to enjoy the sunlight, plus we are able to do what they need to do outside when it is light. I hate it when we turn the clocks back! Some of us go to work in the dark, and come home in the dark.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
